£24m on Shelvey and Townsend is miles too much but they seem more like the kind of player that Newcastle should be going for. It was obvious that Cabella and Thauvin were going to fail. Especially Thauvin, I've no idea why they splashed out on him after seeing what happened with Cabella - they seem pretty much identical.

But as usual the English media are already declaring him shit just because they've never heard of him.

Aye. My favourite one was on MOTD2 last weekend (not the one just gone), Chappers pointed out how well he'd done at Udinese, finishing 3rd etc, only for Jenas (who's normally alright to be fair) to completely ignore that and say "Does he know the Premier League though?". Such narrow-mindedness.

Absolute sitter that was.

Taking Everton to 12th takes some doing though, especially when the quality in the PL is as poor as it currently is.

Great start for Guidolin, did a superb job at Udinese so looks to be a good appointment.

Torn between which replay to watch tonight... The Lineker Derby is on the BBC but the Liverpool v Exeter match is on BT!

I don't think Liverpool v Exeter will be much of a contest (unless Exeter take the lead or something, that'd make it interesting), I'd go with Leicester-Spurs.

Jurgen Klopp is an absolute embarrassment, celebrated the equaliser like he had just won the Champions League.

Come off it.

Interesting couple of nights of football, love how Leicester just keep on going. To be fair though they've been in this form since about last March so why would they stop now? Great header by Huth. Can't believe Swansea didn't appoint a proper manager to replace Monk, could end up costing them their PL status - Big Sam would have been licking his lips before tonight. Also how are United still only two points off 4th despite their horrific form?

Fair play to Appleton at Oxford, doing really well down there and sounds like they play good football too which is a bit of a surprise having witnessed the 'football' we played under him (albeit only for a couple of months).

Van Gaal: "Sheffield United didn't create any chances, but why is nobody criticising them? I think its unfair"

WHAT?

He should be sacked for saying that alone, never mind the absolute rubbish he serves up week after week.

Not that I'm complaining if he stays on

Italy is just too easy,

For...? Assume you mean Juve but they're outside the CL places at the moment.

I do still think they'll win it but it's gonna be a hell of a second half of the season, close title race involving at least 3 or 4 teams.

SSN apparently said we're closer to signing Felipe Anderson. From what I've read about him I'm incredibly skeptical, especially if it's £35M.

That'd be far, far too much yeah. Half it and he'd be worth a punt.

How good actually are Blackburn? A quick browse through the squad and aside from Rhodes, Guthrie (who I assume is probably playing awfully), and maybe Marshall, there seems to be an acute lack of talent. Did anything ever come for Henley, Lowe or Hanley?

Is Lee WIlliamson, Chris Brown and the Fonz as bad as it seems?

Probably the only two players we could get a few million for are Hanley and Rhodes. I think our best player though is Craig Conway, but think he's around 30 now so wouldn't command a fee like the other two. Markus Olsson and Shane Duffy are decent as well.

Henley is alright but probably destined for a career in the Championship, Lowe is pretty basic to be honest and you often go the full 90 without noticing him in the middle, not really a fan. Under the right manager Hanley could be a decent Premier League defender at a West Brom or Norwich.

As for the others, Guthrie doesn't really offer anything yeah, Marshall has ability but hasn't shown any of it for over a year now, Delfouneso shows the odd flash but is a bit of a lightweight, Williamson is poor but not a lot worse than our other CM's and Chris Brown is an absolute donkey and probably the worst Rovers player I've ever seen.

So as you can tell Lambert has a job on his hands! Last season was the chance when we had Gestede, King and to a slightlt lesser extent Cairney.

Juan Iturbe reportedly joined Bournemouth on loan from Roma with a view to a permanent move in the summer. That could be a great signing for them!

Possibly, although there's a reason he's gone to Bournemouth and no bigger clubs were interested.

Did really well at Verona but barely anything at Roma, technically good but not really effective at all. Hope he does well though.

After a good start under Lambert (points wise at least if not performances) we've gone awful. Three consecutive 1-0 defeats, no Rovers player has scored in 5 games, in fact we haven't even scored from open play under Lambert yet which is a little concerning when you consider how goal shy Villa were too under him.

Hopefully he can strengthen this month and ship out some of the wasters (most of the team).

I heard a couple weeks ago this fact:

'2 seasons ago Yeovil were drawing 1-1 at Huish Park with Leicester in the Championship, now Leicester are top of the Premier League and Yeovil are struggling at the Basement of League football!'

Great stat, could be made to sound even more impressive though by replacing 2 seasons ago with 'last year' (2014)

Bet that's never happened before.

Haha True though.

Soulless stadium stuck on a retail park right next to the motorway. Pretty grim.

Our game was called off today due to a waterlogged pitch. Right decision too as Whalley, the flooded village where residents had to evacuate that was the main national news earlier in the day, is only 10-15 mins drive from Blackburn (and only 3 or 4 mins from me if you're interested!) so you get an idea of just how much rain has fallen here haha.

Luckily I'm going to Bolton on Monday lunchtime so don't have to wait long for a game, and we should win - Rotherham stuck 4 past 'em today!

Rooney dropped. It's a Christmas miracle!

No point having Rooney on the bench if Van Gaal is also on there!

Don't see how he can survive this one.

I'm not going to repeat the rumours here, but there's some very serious stuff regarding Rooney floating around which perhaps better explain the complete loss of form and his recent absence with an ankle injury despite not injuring his ankle.

Sad if true.

Any substance to these or just Twitter talk?

Gotta be taken with a pinch of salt for now but yeah, hope there's nothing in them.

Arsenal should do the right thing. Thank Wenger for taking them as far as he can go - and appoint a proven winner.

Is that you Piers Morgan? Hard to disagree though tbh!

Seen a lot of people saying the Carneiro thing triggered all this. While it contributed to the mess they've found themselves in been this season, that's far from true - I remember them losing to anybody and everybody in pre-season and also Arsenal in the Community Shield. Not to mention the Carneiro incident happened at the very end of a draw at home to Swansea; they were already in a bad way.

10 points out of 12 under Lambert so far, cut the gap to the play offs from about 11 points to 4 in the meantime. Forest at home tomorrow night. Come on Rovers!

All that money spent and ending up with Varela, Powell, Lingard and Borthwick-Jackson on the pitch to try and get you out of the CL group phase And not even a difficult group.

Should be an interesting couple of nights in the CL. Going for Chelsea to get through (although if Bournemouth can win there then Porto definitely can) but United and Arsenal to go out. City 2nd in their group.

How is he only 31? Thought he would've been way older than that, I remember seeing him score for Blackburn against Spurs once.

Aye that was his only goal for us. We played ace that game, but you won 3-2....that was the season it was you, Arsenal and us battling for 4th! Good times.

Be funny to see Man Utd/Arsenal/Chelsea/Man City have to go away to somewhere like Whitehawk.

Be even funnier when Utd draw 0-0 with them!
