I'm aiming to take my beloved York City back into the league, and maybe even higher than they've ever been in the English Football League system.

Starting from the 1st of July 2016 I'm taking York City away from the hands of Jackie McNamara. As this is the club's last season at Bootham Crescent I'm aiming to make it one to remember by bouncing the Minstermen straight back out of the Conference into League 2, and maybe even further.

This is a bit of an odd season as I'm starting a year ahead in FM16 terms, and since the database has all updated a few of the teams are shuffling around, coming into the league are Cheltenham and Accrington Stanley from League 2, along with Altrincham and Whitehawk from National North and South respectively. Leaving the league through promotion are Eastleigh and Forest Green Rovers, who overcame Aldershot in the playoff final on penalties. Going down are Dagenham and Redbridge, Guiseley, Woking, and sadly North Ferriby, having only just come up after winning the National North.

We have a couple of young players coming through, one of which is Charlie Wardle who was recently signed from Nantwich town. Already quite a decent player, the young midfielder has a good future in the game, whether it's with City or elsewhere. Another promising player is one that has been at York for the last few years, and that is young winger/midfielder Callum Rzonca, at 19 years of age he's broken into the first team once in 3 seasons, though as one of the strongest wingers currently at the club he could prove a formidable backup player, and perhaps a key player in the not-too-distant future. And last but certainly not least is Aidan Connolly, one of McNamara's signings from Dundee United, the 20 year old Attacking Midfielder is easily one of the best players at the club, and could outgrow the squad very quickly, thankfully as he's contracted until 2018 we have him for a while yet.

After arriving at Bootham Crescent, it's time to meet the chairman Jason McGill, and assess how we're going to take the club forward in the coming months. I'll be asking for a senior affiliate to garner some extra income as the club itself is not doing brilliantly financially, and may also look at an affiliate to loan some young players out as well, though that shouldn't prove too difficult.

Next up it's time to review the squad and see who's not going to make the cut.

First out of the door is Daniel Nti, the 23 year old striker from Nigeria signed from Worcester after making 83 appearances and scoring 23, however has not got a future at the club, especially with 1 striker up top, and currently Vadaine Oliver, Reece Thompson, and Richard Brodie all sat on the bench.

After receiving an offer for Daniel from Colwyn Bay the day after listing him it's very clear that he won't be at the club much longer.

The next player to go with a bit of luck will be Scott Flinders, earning 1.8k a week is taking a huge chunk out of our wage budget, and we could very easily bring in a cheaper replacement, we've asked for 60k, now to see if anyone will offer for him.

Now onto who'll be coming in to the club, chief scout John Stockton has highlighted a particularly good player from Banks O'Dee in Scotland, 26 year old Limited Defender Odmar Færø, who is also being scouted by Yeovil Town, Hartlepool, and Livingston. I'll be scouting him further to see if he's worth bringing in, but already he looks better than our current defenders.

As it stands, with no movements, this is the squad we have set up;
https://puu.sh/qbtU8/1cd58bf38e.png

This particular formation we'll be using at home, away I haven't decided yet as I haven't seen the lads play, but Simon Donnelly my assistant manager has suggested a 4-4-1-1.
Finally, a story I can get behind.

No Goalkeerper? A brave formation!

A few weeks on, Daniel Nti has refused a contract at Colwyn Bay, there's still plenty of time left to sell him but obviously a bit frustrated, I'd much rather have the deals done sooner rather than later..

Two players that are on their way however, youngster Josh Bowkett is moving to British Rail North End Social Club, and Franklyn Clarke drops down to Soham, both on free transfers.

Cheltenham are also reportedly interested in Scott Flinders, and if Steve Burr's interview with BBC Sport is anything to go by then we could scrape 95k out of him, delighted if that comes around. We've also turned down an offer for him from Boreham Wood, of 1k, I may not rate Flinders personally but a grand would be a bit harsh.

More youth players on the transfer list are Rich De Groot, Sam Jefferson, Chris Salmon, Rob Cooney, Ryan Caulfield, Matthew Parker, and Nick Kennedy is available for loan, but only de Groot and Caulfield have attracted offers thus far.

Sadly, although he looked like a good fit, Odmar Faero has rejected the offer that was placed and instead signed for Hartlepool on a £575 p/w deal, obviously the lack of league football is going to deter a lot of signings so it looks like it might be a bit harder than I first anticipated to bring in a couple of solid defenders.

A couple more days tick by and Rich de Groot is off to Ilkeston, and Ryan Caulfield to Leamington, they're a couple of decent young players but unfortunately not up to the standard we need, again both on a free transfer.

Next up need to sort some friendlies out, one sorted against Liverpool which should bring in a healthy 80k and a good number of supporters along with it!

Few days on again and having a bit of a disaster in the staff department, obviously with Andy McMillan our former Head Of Youth Development moving on, and now Darren Simpson has been snapped up as an U18s coach for Crystal Palace, Craig Hinchcliffe to Oldham as a GK Coach, and now Hibs want Simon Donnelly my assistant! Hopefully I can persuade Si to stick around, goalkeeping coach I have a few in mind but Assistant Managers I'd rather not have to hunt for.

On the plus side, friendlies sorted with Port Vale, Raith Rovers, Queen of South and Newcastle Town. Now to wait for the fixtures..

Haha with "Fingers" Flinders in goal I might as well not have a goalkeeper anyway!

Disaster has hit in the form of an electrical short and my cleverness not saving the bloody game luckily only about 20 days missed, gonna bring the same people in and try to ship the same people out, will update when that happens!

At least now I get to sell Flinders twice

Things are back on track at Bootham Crescent, after that slight cock up at least I'm going to learn to save more often now! Luckily nothing much has changed, luckily managed to sign on the same staff members, list of staff and player transfers below;

Players IN:
David McGurn - Cowdenbeath - 9k - £775 p/w until 2018 - Player/GK Coach

Players OUT:
Kieren Price - King's Lynn - Free - £90 p/w until 2018
Josh Bowkett - Boston Town - Free - £90 p/w until 2017
Franklyn Clarke - Soham - Free - £160 p/w until 2017

Staff IN:
Louis Langdown - Scout - £350 p/w until 2017
Malcolm Shotton - Coach/Scout - £475 p/w until 2017
Wayne Richardson - Fitness Coach - £400 p/w until 2018

Staff OUT:
Darren Simpson - Coach - Crystal Palace - £400 p/w until 2017 (22k Compensation)
Craig Hinchcliffe - GK Coach - Oldham Athletic - £675 p/w until 2018 (23k Compensation)

Back at the 20th of June, nearly into July where we'll have a look at fixtures, hopefully a few easy games to start out with. The Board failed to find an Affiliate but have produced a Senior Affiliate verdict again, this time Barnsley were the ideal choice, obviously not being too far down the road would be convenient if we loan any players. Speaking of loaning players, we've brought in 21 year old midfielder Brad Abbott, and 19 year old left back Matty Templeton.

This season I'm hoping to win the FA Trophy, get into the First Round of the FA Cup, and get into the playoffs.

Nearing pre-season and I haven't managed to offload Flinders and Nti again unfortunately, but there's still time, with Port Vale in a few weeks hopefully we can bring in a couple of new faces.

With 10 days until Port Vale, Tamworth have made a loan offer for Callum Rzonca, and have offered to pay his £300 p/w wages, which is a very welcome move for the player. Also going out on loan, this time to Coleshill Town, is young right midfielder Bradley Freer, who has recently signed a professional contract to keep him at the club until 2018, and looks to be quite the prospect. Packing his bags and moving on a more permanent basis is Daniel Nti, who goes over to Handsworth Parramore in the Baris Premier on a free. Also on his way is Jack Higgins, who signs for FC United for a fee of £5k on a £375 p/w contract until 2017.

We've also received an offer for Charlie Wardle from Nottingham Forest that could potentially rise to £16k in the future, the youngster is receiving a lot of interest and could quite possibly end up being another impressive youth player from the club to move to a championship/premiership side in recent years, following midfielder Ben Godfrey. At the risk of upsetting the player, I have rejected the offer as I see him as a very hot prospect and would like to keep him at the club as long as possible.

Now that we're into July, the fixtures for this season have been released, the first 5 games are Tranmere Rovers (H), Solihull Moors (A), Chester (H), FC Halifax (A) and Southport (A), so what should be some reasonably easy first fixtures for the lads to ease into after pre-season is done. Another event happening on the 1st of July is David McGurn arriving at the club, as the team's best goalkeeper he goes straight into the first team.

32 year-old Barbadian defender Dean Leacock has also agreed terms with the club, and after passing a medical, the former Crawley player joins his teammate in the 2014-15 season, Lanre Oyebanjo, in the back line. Or he would, if he didn't pick up a stomach injury after lifting weights.. looking at 5-6 weeks out.

Tyler Walton is the next to move on loan, just 2 days before the Port Vale friendly, the young central midfielder moves to Evo-Stik First Division South side, Gresley FC.

Port Vale next, the lads are looking ready and later today they'll be out on the pitch for the first time, exciting stuff.
Glad you were able to get back on track and it wasn't too disastrous!

Out of interest, is your home ground still the KitKat Crescent?
Sometimes you have to stand in the shadows; to see the light.

Bootham Crescent now, was still KitKat Crescent when I started watching back in 2009-10 though! Was a right name

Not a great start for the Port Vale game, as young Ghanaian winger Enoch Andoh latches onto a great through ball from Forrester to nutmeg McGurn and make it 1-0 in 4 minutes. Chance for York on 13 but Simon Heslop brought down a defender. Close call again as Andoh drives a low shot in but it meets the thigh of Ben Barber and Galbraith hammers it clear. No other clear cut chances in the first half makes it 1-0 to Port Vale as the whistle blows.

Substitutions at half time;

Templeton and Thompson on for Felix and Oliver in the 67th to build up match fitness, still no chances in the second half. Templeton whips a ball in to Klukowski at the far post but the header is tame and easy for the 'keeper to deal with. 83rd minute and Dixon is booked for handball.

Full time, 1-0 to The Valiants, not a bad result but a pretty poor performance in general.

Some good news however, as Charlie Wardle signs a pre-contract deal with us until 2017, cracking.

Next game is Queen of the South at Home, hoping for a positive result against the Scottish side, just a goal would be nice!

Next out is young keeper Michael Quinn, who's going out on loan to Kettering, only a few days after being brought into the club on a free transfer, the young keeper looks like a decent prospect and could well get a few games next season depending on David McGurn, but at his current level and the tender age of 19 it's highly unlikely he'll get a game this season.

I've also chosen my captain for the season, Yan Klukowski, the 29 year-old Box to Box Midfielder is one of our most experienced players, and can hopefully lead the team from the centre. The lads are generally delighted with his appointment, which is a relief!

2 new members of staff coming in, former Port Vale and Stockport player Gareth Owen is coming into the club as U21's Manager, along with Darren Purse from Rushden & Diamonds who becomes the new U18's Manager, with him he brings a decent knowledge of Finnish players, thanks to his time with IFK Mariehamn in Veikkausliiga.

Massive hit for the club as right-back Lanre Oyebanjo hobbled off the pitch at a training session, looking like Knee Tendonitis, which could be up to 7 months out for the Irish player. Lanre's obviously very distressed, he's had a few problems with Knee Tendonitis before and this has him on the brink of retirement at only 26, I'm going to have a word with him to see if I can lessen that but very understandably he's worried that he may never be injury free. Luckily, after telling him his place in the team is secure he's perked up a little, though we'll have to wait and see if he wants to call it quits.

Regardless, with 2 of my main defenders now out through injury it's time to delve into the loan market yet again, with bids made for Sheffield Wednesday Right Back, Mike Conneh, and Man United Centre-Half Regan Poole.

Into the match against QoTS, and after 20 minutes Scott Fenwick goes off injured, then to make matters worse Matt Fry heads the ball past Dave McGurn, what a tit. 1-0 at half time, until the 70th minute where Ben Clappison also gets an own goal, brilliant. Some consolation in the 80th as a nice lobbed pass from Wardle is capitalised upon by Reece Thompson who smashes it home to reduce the deficit to 2-1. A great chance on the 91st for Felix but Thompson fluffed the pass across to him and the keeper was able to collect it comfortably. Disappointing performance from the defenders today, and to make matters worse Scott Fenwick has broken his ankle, that's 4 months on the sidelines..

Yet another player going on his way is local lad Simon Heslop, the midfielder is just taking up resources at the minute and has little chance of featuring in the first team, thus he signs for Barrow on a free. Another departure is Matt Fry, who has been shipped off to The New Saints in Wales, also on a free transfer.

And another training injury, Josh Robinson is out for 5 weeks with a twisted ankle, I should really invest in a Health & Safety Inspector for the training ground..

Next match is the Liverpool Friendly, god help us.
