For a third year running the beast that is the British Steel returns to the challenge section for all of you that want to challenge yourself within the British Isles.

So what is the challenge: You have to win every trophy from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland in any order you want. However you must only use British and Irish players!

With no on conquering this challenge over the last two years its proved to not be as easy as some people assume and we welcome every challenger to try and be the first!

The challenge is made a little easier by counting promotion from finishing second in the league, or via the playoffs as the title but this is your choice. Any success in Europe or with the national teams are just an added note on your history but won't count towards this challenge.

Below is a screenshot and I will add everyone who takes part to the challenge leaderboard and add your story so people can follow it easily. Once you've won a trophy be it league or cup, I will need to see a screenshot for it to count.

Rules:
  • Only use British and Irish players
  • Must start with Sunday League Reputation
  • You may start at a club or start unemployed, your choice
  • You MUST send me a screenshot of each trophy won for it to count
Below is the list of playable trophy's within the game when you load all the home nations.(Downloaded competitions and expansions are not allowed)

England
Fa Trophy, Blue Square North/South, Blue Square Premiership, Johnson's Paint trophy, nPower League Two, nPower League One, nPower Championship, League Cup, Community Shield, FA Cup, Premiership

You don't need to write a thread for the challenge buddy, however I will still need to see screenshots of your manager at the start of the game (his rep) and then when you win a trophy I would like to see the message screen saying you won it and either the league table or match overview for a cup final win let me know if you wish to join the challenge

I decided to start in the January so i had the whole of the 2012 season to play as, with the vacant job at Athlone Town, and only manged to finish 5th in the First Division and really didnt make any impact in the cups. This second season is nearly coming to the conclusion and has gone alot better in the newly expanded league, with the top 5 teams having been a tight breakaway group all season, hoping to nick the playoff spot.

Sounds like the league is very tight! I believe BOWC's league was tight as he was Athlone town to! So maybe this year you could tick the first trophy off! keep it going

Just wondering how the British and Irish players rule works.

Is it strict in that you are not allowed to play/buy any non-British/Irish players at all and you have to release them once you see any in your team? Or is it that the trophies for that season in which you have non-British/Irish players are not counted towards the challenge. I was wondering because it would be pretty hard to take over a top team which has 50% foreigners then without being allowed a period of transition

Edit: One more thing: Munster Senior Cup in Ireland is a regional cup I think, and is only played by 3 playable teams currently, makes it pretty hard to win it as only Limerick, Cork City and Waterford Utd are in it! - Just letting anyone know in case they were wondering.

yes you must sale or release any foreign nationality players that makes the challenge harder espcially once you rise through the premier league and possibly into scotland.

Or if you can’t sell the players/cost too much to release then they have to rot in the reserves until they depart.

I might give this another shot when I eventually get the new game. I like the look of Oxford City in the Conference North.

Looking forward to you taking on the challenge rick, with you not running it this year it may give you a bit more motivation to battle. You do love your lower league games so hopefully we can see a thread from you soon.

I myself will be participating in this challenge, with a thread to prove screenshot etc once I puchase the new game

I'm not sure mate, I could've done well on FM12 but I get too addicted to one club.

I think this might be more interesting if we made a Welsh edit to make more than one division playable, I always found the Welsh leg of the challenge a bit boring with only twelve clubs to choose from.

During that 2nd season we hit a bit of bad form just in the run in so finish again a consistent 5th. The third season i thought was to be the year to kick on with the silverware. All was going well and we were sitting top in may when our star striker McGoldrick sustained a injury that was to put him out of action for 11 months, that coinciding with the English transfer window opening to poach some of our other players caused us to go on a bad run, and it was to be yet again a 5 team battle for the playoff. Having narrowly lost out in a semi final replay to the reigning champions Derry in the Challenge Cup, we found faith and belief and our form started to be consistent again leaving it a straight fight between us and Limerick, knowing a win for us and them failing to win would set up a home playoff showdown against our bitter rivals Longford who had gained promotion the season before. An own goal by the champions gave us a 1-0 victory whilst Limerick suffered a 10 man defeat to Wexford, setting up that big local showdown on goal difference. During the playoff match our player of the season got sent off just before half time and not too long after the break we were behind, until the 77th minute when we clawed back an equalizer, 5 minutes later we had a debatable offside goal disallowed leaving the game to have another 30 minutes to play. With the first half of ET staying goalless it made a very tense end to end battle to the 2nd half of ET only for us take the lead after 107 minutes before we were given another sending off, leaving us the last 5 minutes of extra time to hang on to the lead with a 2 man deficit, before the crowd errupted the the final whistle was blown, with promotion achieved!

So
2012 Div 1 5th/8 11-4-13 45-51 37pts
2013 Div 1 5th/12 15-8-10 63-38 53pts
2014 Div 1 2nd/12 16-7-10 60-45 55pts

One more thing to ask!

Is it only players with their main nationality as British/Irish that are allowed, or are players with secondary nationality as British/Irish also allowed? (case in point: Carl Jenkinson)

Thats an interesting point. I believe if they have a secondary nationality as English and haven't played for a different national team then they can stay in the team

Well done BOWC for restoring your '1' trophy lead by adding trophy number two this afternoon

I am tempted to start in Wales just the easiest place to start and seeming its one league and being able to pick a team, if I started with say TNS it could be a 1 or 2 season part of the challenge However I am drawn to Scotland too...ideas guys?

You should start in Scotland and manage East Stirling. As they're muck, you'll be stranded in Scotland for sometime.

I just loaded the demo up to look in Scotland and completely forgot Rangers are in division three! it would be a nice place to start however unemployed is usually funner from the start

Maiden has led his Havant and Waterloville side to a playoff promotion to chalk off his first trophy.

Now all three of the candidates who have started this challenge have their first one out the way!
