Went out and did 30 miles on the bike at 6 this morning, pretty nice till the last few miles when 3 separate cars pulled out on me in as many minutes, numpties. Still pretty nice to get out before the weather turned to shit

Just got back today from a few days up in North Wales, got out on the bike a couple of times and really enjoyed it, never normally enjoy climbs but really liked it this past few days, helped that the scenery was pretty special as well.

I love Snowdonia, my family owns a hotel in Barmouth which is on the coast just outside the park. I can certainly imagine some of those hills and mountains are bastards to cycle up and down though.

Nice to be able to ride to see a race today, rode out to Easebourne to see the Tour of Britain pass through. Always nice seeing someone you know racing against guys like Wiggins, Cavendish etc as well (the one waving in the picture aha)

Cyclist creates bike on Google maps

Clever, but I wouldn't fancy doing that.

My work has places reserved for staff for the London marathon next year, I decided to put my name forward for one, it could be the motivation I need to really get myself back in shape at long last.

Found out today that I have indeed been selected as one of the company's runners for the marathon to raise money for the WHSmith's trust.

I guess I better start training then, got a bit of a belly to run off, this bag of M&M's is my last I swear!

Thats awesome! I tried entering via the ballot box earlier this year but missed out! Also went on to damage my lateral ligaments in my ankle and fracture my fifth metertarsal in my foot leaving me on crutches for two weeks and now in a foot/ankle brace! So annoying!

Learn to do a pull-up

I've been told that a good one relies heavily on the back muscles, how do I train them?

National Service I would imagine

Aye, I need 6 to pass my fitness test, and I've got less than 2 months left.

I presume its a pullup with your palms facing away from you and not a chin up with palms facing you? If so, you are correct its essentially back muscles.

Practice makes perfect as they say.

I'm allowed to do either in the test, but my commanders have been telling me to train pull-ups since it apparently trains more muscle groups.

Thing is I can't even pull myself up in the slightest.

Went to the gym just now and tried out the assisted pull-up machine, would probably need more than that though.

You need to exercise consistently to improve your strength/lose some weight. A pullup is essentially your back muscles being strong enough to move your body weight, so a combination of lowering that body weight and improving the muscles will work.

So since damaging my ligaments and tearing my tendon in my ankle some months ago now I'm back to playing football and stupidly signed up to a half marathon in April. Having not ran in ages I thought I'd try and 3mile run today. Ended up doing it in just under 27 minutes which I was rather pleased with!
