Liverpool's best side of the last 5 years (4-2-3-1)

Kuyt-Gerrard-Suarez
Torres
Mostly players from Rafa's reign, we had such a good team back then.

Now, if it was the last 10 years it'd be more interesting as I could have picked from the good teams we had at the start of the last decade.
Carroll.

Suarez with an unbroken Torres would have been lethal.

Do 10 years if you want, I just thought 5 years would be quite recent and more specific. 10 years is fine- I would just put the 2005 CL winning side for us, even though it was quite sub-standard by 2009 standards... how we won with that I don't know
TheClassicK
Only question would be at RB but I thought O'Shea's been an extremely valuable supporting member for the recent years he played for United, very versatile and steady in multiple positions. Saw lots of games for that reason as well.

Awright, a flat 4-3-3, FM-style:
Ola Toivonen - Markus Johanesson - Magnus Källander
Anders Prytz - Valter Tomaz Jr. -David Leinar - Björn Anklev
Dick Last
Leinar is there mostly because I felt I had to have someone from the current team there and because I struggled to remember any noteworthy centre backs beyond Valter.
Anyway, it's safe to say that team could have walked home the Allsvenskan title at any point between 2004 and 2008. The defence is weak, but no one would have been able to deal with that midfield and those forwards.

What went wrong?

It should be pointed out that hardly any of those players careers at this club overlap. A fair few talented players passed through for a season or two from the late 90's until 2006 when all hell broke loose, Johan Elmander and Brynjar Gunnarsson being the first to come to my mind.
I guess the hope is that both Elmander and Ailton will come back at some point, Elmander has given some pretty strong hints at a comeback over the past few years, saying we're the only Swedish club he'd play for and Ailton has said that he's open to a comeback at some point in the future, provided we make it back to Allsvenskan. If we can get our finances in order I wouldn't rule out seeing them both back once their current deals in Turkey and Russia run out.

First of all finish these off, which you have to do
Hibee
Lazio's isn't that different to our current side, though some of these guys like Kolorov and Zarate were one season wonders:
Marchetti; Lichsteiner, Radu, Dias, Kolorov, Ledesma, Brocchi; Zarate, Hernanes, Mauri; Klose
bluemoon.
Richards - Kompany - Lescott - Clichy
Yaya Touré - Barry
Silva - Ali Benarbia - Balotelli
Aguero
Ali Benarbia was fucking brilliant.
jumberto
Aaron Lescott - Anthony Gerrard - Andy Butler - Matt Saddler
Alex Nicholls - Darren Wrack - Richard Taundry - Emmanuel Ledesma
Matt Fryatt - Will Grigg
Fantastic
bluemoon.
Bit before my time, to be honest. Not sure he'd get in this team anyway, he was never the most consistent of players.
I was actually going to go with Goater - imagine how many he'd score with David Silva supplying him - but figured that'd be too much of a sentimental choice.
Fantastic
McCarthy
Conolly - Pearce - Lees - White
Snodgrass - Austin - Delph - Gradel
Beckford - Becchio
League champions, end of story.

Doni (nobody else, Stek has been average); Panucci, Juan, Mexes, Riise; Pizarro, De Rossi, Perrotta (excellent under Spalletti); Vucinic, Totti, Menez.

Cairney - Rowson - Lawless - Erskine
Doolan - Buchanan
Off the top of my head.

in terms of actual quality of player it would be stupid not to include him
Bian
Lichtsteiner----Chiellini-----Cannavaro-----De Ceglie
Camoranesi-----Pirlo-----Marchisio-----Nedved
Trezeguet----Ibra
Could've gone with a different formation, but I'm too lazy. We also had no decent left backs so I just picked De Ceglie.
