Apparently we're signing Wijnaldum today, be a good signing if true.

Probably means Sissoko is off, heard they're very similar in style?

Edwards has rubbished the Sissoko to Liverpool rumours. Would of thought we would have heard something by now if he was going to Liverpool/Arsenal/Man Utd.

That said, the other week Wijnaldum was apparently 'not a priority target' - So maybe Sissoko is away, or they've given up on Thauvin and are trying to buy Wijnaldum instead

Because he's a prick?

Careful now, down with this sort of thing.

Reports coming out today saying Marsielle won't sell N'Koulou or Thauvin this summer, so maybe.

And Edwards knows nothing - the only journalist with even a slight bit of knowledge is Simon Bird and he is as Kinnear said. A cunt.

and even he said Austin was a done deal about 23 years ago.

I agree with Bird and Edwards being cunts. But I reckon if there was any hint of Sissoko going to Liverpool he would have a massive erection about it.

fwiw, Marseille seem to be doing that thing Nicollin does. "We would never sell him, not for any price", before selling him for an additional £500k. Marseille signed a couple of wingers this week, although maybe he's just replacing Ayew and Payet.

Shame with Sissoko. His attitude in the second half of last season was poor and at times poisonous. Although I bet he would actually give a shit for them... well until PSG dangle a better offer to sit on their bench while better players get an easy title.

I thought Wijnaldum was a target for Sunderland, so bit of a turn up for the books he's likelier to be going to Tyneside instead. Plus presumably he'd be a signing fans might like the look of more than that 19 year old at Northampton we're also allegedly close to buying. But in any case, I struggle to believe NUFC are ever close to signing anyone until a player is actually posing for photos with the home strip.

Wijnaldum has denied being interested in a move here, so looks like that might be off the table too.

Things are different to a few years ago when we actually looked like we could move forward - players will be put off moving here now as we've been horrendously mismanaged since around 2011.

Apparently Sammy Ameobi's sister confirmed he's joining Cardiff City (not sure if loan or permanent).

Meanwhile, Steve McClaren turned up to last night's fans forum and one thing I've seen mentioned said that he wants a final say on players leaving. So either he's decided Ameobi isn't good enough, or the board's undermined him already.

Apparently Joel Matip could be on his way. Probably a good signing, definitely an improvement on Williamson.

Won't happen, Newcastle don't sign centre backs nowadays!

A blind arthritic donkey would be an improvement on Coloccini and Williamson. Although Mike Ashley would probably consider that cheaper and buy one.

I think I could do a better job than Williamson tbh.

(Belated) confirmation that Sammy Ameobi signed a new deal and has been sent on loan to Cardiff City. Dunno if that's good for him or not tbh.

Meanwhile, NUFC fans aren't happy with the news PSG have confirmed a deal with Palace for Yohan Cabaye. Bet he scores against us when we play them.

Cardiff is still a level too high for Sammy Ameobi. He's been a left wing Sanogo whenever I've seen him play.

Same. Speaks really confidently and Ian Cathro has also impressed.

Apparently he's a master of manipulation though according to the 'Boro press. So we'll wait and see.

He's always had the look of Teflon Mike Baldwin about him. And Boro seemed really sick of him by the end - no one will care if you talk a good game and don't deliver.

But right now I'm feeling positive towards the new season. Regardless of signings.

PSV's official website has said Wijnaldum has been allowed to come to Tyneside for a medical. Good sign. Hopefully an actual deal can be followed up.

I've also seen the claim Mitrovic is going to sign today. I'm not treating it as gospel, mind.

Amazing how quickly our fans change opinions.

We still need 4 signings on top of these 2 that aren't even confirmed yet to be anywhere near where we were 3-4 year ago.

The ones I don't get are the ones who are #ASHLEYOUT but then tweet how they wouldn't pay £8m for a 30 year old player.

Also speaking of fickle, 48 hours ago people seemed really annoyed about Cabaye going to Palace, now they all seem to be smug about it.

Maybe it's a good thing Matip isn't coming.....(Also featuring Facundo Ferrerya and top defender Mapou Yanga Mbiwa)

Wijnaldum confirmed. Fee not put on the website but listed as "third highest in the club's history after Owen and Shearer", and is reportedly around £14.5million. I do agree we still need to make a number of signings and retain players to be back up with 2011-12. This is merely a start - a good start, mind.

As for Cabaye, I'm not sure if I wanted him back. It would've been nice and it'll be weird seeing him play against us, plus I can see him having a good game versus us. But there's still memories of him behaving like an arse to get out of the club in 2013/14, and £13million plus higher wages is a bit excessive for a player that turns 30 in January.

I'm still pondering what else we need. A new centre half or left back (or both) is ideal, and a new striker would be good too. We'll see what happens I guess.

Depends by and large on who we keep and that certain players return to form and fitness - For example Elliott, Taylor, Dummett, Haidara, Tiote, De Jong, Bigi, Aarons & Cisse were barely on the field post Pardew, add to that Krul and Sissoko badly out of form, and the returning Marveaux, Lascellas and Darlow and suddenly the squad looks a lot brighter. I assumed at the start of the summer that Cisse and 1 of Sissoko and Tiote would definitely go - but there has been surprisingly little of them leaving.

I don't think the squad needs that much work tbh. If we get in Mitrovic and a CB in I'll be happy enough.

Id like another winger/am to ensure we don't have to see Obertan/Gouffran in the starting xi over 7-8 times throughout the season

I'd like 2 centre backs too, none of ours are really any good. Colo is out of form and doesn't want to be here and Williamson and Taylor are terrible.

N'koulou, thauvin, veltman and mitrovic and I'll be happy.

Then if we sell cisse sign Austin. If we sell Tiote/sissoko they need to be replaced too.

I'm skeptical of us replacing players that we sell.
