I'd say the knee wasn't right in the first place, he didn't seem fully fit to me.

Fryers on 03/12/12: It was the right time for me to leave and get experience playing in good league. I made the right decision for me. I think I’m doing well. The Belgian League is different but theres a lot of quality. It has developed some great players. Standard Liege is a top club who want to be in the top 3 every year. The end of the season is the most important period.
Definitely needs investigating.

Fergie doesn't have anything to do with our transfers, apart from identifying targets, it would, therefore, be ironic if Gill was complaining about it.
Lets all just bond over how much of a cunt Levy is.

It'd be perfectly reasonable to assume that he'd put on more of a brave face, so to speak, whilst he was a Standard Liege player, even if he was feeling homesick and wanted to come back to England.
Ninja
And he wanted £20,000 a week as well, would be hilarious if they were paying him that.

I'm not one to say, but maybe Tottenham Hotspur's scouting network is better equipped and more qualified to judge a player's future potential than you are.
Ninja
Well he's not a shit player, the fact we wanted to keep him until he started being a greedy cunt and that Spurs signed him attest to that but there's little to suggest that he'll be a great player.
I'd be very surprised if he ever became a better player than, say, Danny Simpson and given that Spurs have BAE, Vertonghen, Naughton and Rose (who has by all accounts been excellent on loan at Sunderland) to play in that position it makes it even more pointless.
If I'm being cynical, that gif of him falling over twice will probably be the most memorable thing bout his career.

According to whom? You?
As you said, United liked him enough to want to offer him a contract, and now Spurs have gone out of their way to go and sign him for £3m or so. There's obviously some potential there. I don't see how you can say with confidence that he's unlikely to be better than someone like Danny Simpson, or that his career won't ever amount to anything significant. Have you seen one game in which he featured in Belgium?
I've never seen him play but I find it astounding that you're able to criticise him and effectively writing him off at the age of 20 despite having barely ever seen him play. There's a certain arrogance to football fans that leads them to believe their knowledge of a player's ability is just as good, if not greater than professional scouts who are paid a lot of money to spend hours researching these guys. I'm more inclined to believe Spurs, like every big club, have thoroughly researched and weighed up the deal and are more likely to be right in their judgement of his value than some bitter, uninformed United fan.

Fergie is absolutely right here and you still would rather side with the chairman of your supposed biggest rivals just because it's Sir Alex.
Imagine if this was happening to a smaller club, they get shafted enough most of the time in these situations but using an overseas team to avoid paying the full compensation fee could really cause problems to a small club who desperately need the money.

Manchester United are still the bigger cunts in this.

Fryer's inteview last month.
I don't see the point of doing that, why say you're happy when you're not? Surely you'd want to make your feelings known, if it was a few months ago he said that it wouldn't seem so bad. But only a month after saying how happy he is he's able to sort out a deal with Spurs. Spurs being their parent club and a club who tried so desperately to sign him in the summer.
Doesn't add up.
Oh deary me.

So it was bitter when he was playing for us and no one believed he had a hope and a prayer of making it as a regular at United was it?
Be realistic, United have a lot of players that will move on and have decent Premier League or Championship careers but it's obvious won't have a long term future here. This season alone we've let De Leat, James, Norwood, Jacob and King go. We've let two players go recently that looked good enough to make it at United, Pogba (who we pretty much all knew what went on there) and Morrison whose attitude will probably ever stop him reaching his potential.
We wanted him as a squad player, nothing more, when he left we replaced him with Büttner (I think we might have signed Büttner a couple of days before, which pushed Fryers in to 3rd choice left back territory, possibly 4th, as those who watch the reserves have always rated Blackett higher than him).
If he was as good as you're trying to intimate (which is absolutely ridiculous, because by your own admission you haven't seen him play, so you have absolutely no basis to enter a debate on how good he is) do you not think we'd have paid what he was asking for? After all, he was asking for that sum (£20,000) because that's what we'd offered Pogba, so if we actually had any real belief that he wouldn't have been easily replaceable and actually had any real future at United beyond squad duties I think we might just have paid it.
Of course, your whole argument is ridiculous. Andy Carroll is obviously a £35m player because Liverpool bought him, and they know more than us then? Bebe at £7.5m was an absolute STEAL, everyone that questioned that transfer and was proven right was just lucky? QPR's transfer policy of signing has beens on big wages is enlightened. In fact, why don't we just shut the whole forum down? After all there's no point us discussing anything is there because clubs never make mistakes.

We didn't want to pay Fryers what he wanted, he left and we should move on.
