Espiacaly Kevan Grundy looks like a player that can turn up big. With massive acceleration, good speed combined with good dribbling and crossing. He is going to be a threat running all day. And at the age of 16 he can only grow.

He's already having a huge impact chipping in with a goal and four assists in his eight appearances.

So after ten games this is how we're going, a lot better than last season and each signing has impressed.

Do you have any long term plans for this team or is this going to be a journeyman career or just a couple seasons and done type thing?

Ideally I'd love to stay at AFC and take them all the way to the Premier League and Champions League, if however I don't then no big deal, I've not got one set of goals in my mind, whatever happens I guess happens.

So the first half of the season has been completed and it's been a fantastic few months for us in my opinion. We sit just outside the playoff places and if we can start scoring more goals in games then we'll finish inside the top seven, no doubt about it. We've played a possession based game this season and created lots of chances, we've just not taken them, we probably should have another ten points on the board to be honest.

Here is a perfect example of us dominating a game in an attacking sense yet failing to score. We really need to turn chances into goals if we're to push for a promotion challenge. I'll be even more disappointed in the replay if we get pumped by Yeovil, I mean it could happen given they're a League One team and supposedly have a better squad.

More disappointing news is an injury for Kevan Grundy. He'll miss about a month of football which is upsetting given he's been fantastic for us this season and at just 16 years of age he's tipped for a very bright future in the game. According to one of my scouts he could become a good Premier League winger in the future so potentially if we've got to sell him we may make a huge profit given we signed him for free.

So we crash out of the FA Cup on penalties and miss out on a third round clash with Sheffield Wednesday.

I have to admit I'm disappointed because we should have beaten Yeovil again.

Unlucky not to win that one. What i dont get is 23 shots; 6 on target; 15 off target; 0 woodwork. Where did those other 2 go?

So the January transfer window has opened and I've done my best to strengthen in defence and also in attack, so I've brought in two young players who probably are more prospects for the future whilst bringing in two lads who can help immediately, well that's what I hope.

So my first piece of business was to bring in former Ipswich Town defender Jack Ainsley for a fee of just £12,000. The 23 year old can play in the centre of defence and at right back which I think is key at a lower level, players being able to play more than the one position so you're covered for injury crisis should that take place.

My next signing that cost money was Ben Penny, a young 15 year old with a bright future hopefully, he cost me a small £2,500 which will be worth it if he turns into a leading League One or Championship striker in the next few years. My next signing was that of 22 year old Roland Bergkamp, yes he's Dutch, yes he's a striker and yes I hope he'll be just like Dennis!! He joins us on a free transfer and hopefully he can help us score more goals in our push for a playoff place.

My final signing was Andre Lewis on a free transfer and I've high hopes for him. He's already been capped by Wales at U21 level so hopefully he'll become a good player for us over the next few seasons. As you can see from the League Two table we're sitting inside the playoff places and are just four points behind Gillingham who occupy the last automatic promotion place to League One. I must admit I'm aiming high and hope to catch them if we can, it'll be difficult but we've got the ability and if key players remain in form and fit we could achieve what many would say is impossible.

End of January has come and heading into February we're in with a shot at automatic promotion from League Two, an achievement that would be fantastic for the club. I've added another player to the squad permanently after he impressed whilst on loan, Harry Arter earning himself a move from Bournemouth with some inspirational displays.

I've also brought in Enda Stevens and Eggert Jonsson on loan, both costing us nothing, both players of exceptional quality when compared to most players in League Two. The squad is ready for one final push and hopefully we'll finish inside the top three this season, there is no doubt about it that we're aiming for automatic promotion to League One.

We could be just 90 minutes away from a trip to Wembley after this result. The second leg is at our home ground and we're unbeaten against Aldershot under my reign at home, winning both those games 1-0, a repeat in that sequence all we need to book a trip to Wembley to face either Doncaster Rovers or Middlesbrough.

So with just seven games remaining this season in all competitions it's time for a little update. As you can see we've taken a real stranglehold on an automatic promotion place and I'm extremely confident we've done enough to earn promotion to League One, this season has been a fantastic one so far and hopefully we can pull off an upset against Middlesbrough at Wembley as well.

To be honest if results go our way we could even catch Crawley at the top of the table which would be a marvelous achievement, I mean we were originally predicted to come 19th in League Two so we've without doubt surpassed the media prediction we were labelled with at the beginning of the season.

Oh the highs and lows of football management. One moment it's wild celebrations after Wes Fletcher equalizes for us, the next it's total agony as we concede almost immediately and Middlesbrough hold on to win at Wembley.

So with three games to go we're pretty much guaranteed an automatic promotion place unless something unbelievable happens. What's most exciting is the fact Crawley look intent on blowing the League Two title and the gap now stands at just three points with three games to go.

In the end we couldn't wrestle the League Two title from Crawley which is a little disappointing.

However when you remember we finished 18th last season and were predicted to finish in 19th this season we've overachieved massively gaining automatic promotion to League One, a fantastic achievement and something I'm absolutely delighted about.

The goal for next season is survival, plain and simple, that's all I want to do in League One.

So our pre season schedule is done and dusted ahead of our first season in League One. It's been good in my opinion, we tested ourselves again against Championship opposition mainly and weren't embarrassed in the majority of those games, the defeat against Bolton obviously disappointing but our performance was quite good. The goal this season is to simply avoid relegation, anything more will be an added bonus and I feel confident we can do just that.

I'll show you who I've brought in during the summer in the next update.

Our first game in League One ends in a 0-0 draw, but we probably could have and should have beaten Yeovil Town in front of our supporters at the Fan's Stadium. We bossed proceedings in my opinion and the match stats would suggest there was only one team likely to win this game, yet unfortunately we just couldn't find the breakthrough.

So after 23 games in League One we're well and truly surpassing our season expectations.

We're sitting inside the top two and look on course to at the very least clinch a playoff place. Following our fantastic start to the season though I'm hoping we'll clinch a second consecutive promotion and book our place in the Championship next season. We've got an FA Cup second round replay against Barrow up next and if we can beat them we'll book a third round clash with Swansea City at our home ground.

So after a fantastic start to life in League One we went through what can only be described as a disastrous patch. We went 8 games without a win in the league and with that our automatic promotion hopes evaporated. Whilst that is disappointing I've reminded myself that we were expected to finish last in League One this year so we've already overachieved quite a bit and challenging for a playoff place is a successful season.

To help in the last 11 games of the season I've brought in some new players to help freshen things up.

So our first season in League One ends with us finishing inside the top six and with that we've booked our spot in the playoffs. I don't think we'll have enough to go all the way and clinch promotion to the Championship given Hartlepool are strong favourites but we'll give it a crack against them over the two legs, if we beat them and reach Wembley then anything can happen.
