How about as an alternative, rather than kit makers changing how they do things we could still simply have the submission system for requests with sources only. That way they're all organised and new people can understand the system and how to make a request.

Then the collection of completed images into packs still happens the old way. But we can work directly with @hammer9 to come up with some improvements that makes his life easier for him and anyone else can easily step in if he's offline for whatever reason.

I'm open to all suggestions.

Please don't give up on this yet. Make the upload pack work and wait and see if we can't get this up and running. The benefits would be tremendous for all users of this site 👍🙂

I've made a demo video showing how similar it is to the current system and how minor a change it is.

In this video i'm pretending to be @bolid74 and adding the Morecombe Kits to the League One section.

Key differences:

With comments in a thread

  • Creators have to go back and edit old comments
  • Everyone has to go back and check those old comments on page #333 to see what's new
  • Newbies are constantly asking where something is and have to be told to go check page #333
  • When something is listed as “new” it's not clear what that means, one person may have checked 5 days ago and another person 5 weeks ago so it's not accurate, you have to figure out what's new for yourself.
  • There's no notifications when comments are edited so people have to manually go and check those old comments
  • Hammer has to be online to manually (1) download every kit (2) organise them on his computer (3) create a config file (4) zip the file (5) upload it
  • New people are are put off getting involved and creating kits because the current system is confusing and it's not clear how to contribute

When submitting with a form

  • It takes the same amount of minimal effort for a kit creator. All you have to do is type “Morecombe”, select “Home” from a dropdown and upload the file.
  • Now there's a feed showing the history of the kit if it's ever updated and the source it was built from.
  • Now there's a feed of kits ordered by date so people can easily see what's new and when it was uploaded.
  • People could subscribe to get notifications if they wanted to.
  • Now you can search for specific teams or competitions.
  • The league page has the exact same UI as the comment, listing the teams in alphabetical order and showing which kits have been made and which not. But it's easily findable by browsing England > League Two or searching “League Two SS Kits” on Google. Unlike when it's on Page #333
  • Now because everything's linked to the ID in a database not a comment the sites server can automatically build a zip with a config.xml and upload it in 5 seconds without Hammer or anyone else having to do anything.
  • People can be notified that a pack has been updated and choose to redownload the whole thing or download just the latest image and config.xml
  • All the source images can be easily searchable and organised by league as well
  • People may be more encouraged to contribute and help make kits if the system is simpler and they can see what's being done vs needs doing.

There's tons of benefits and it doesn't create any more work for creators at all, because using the form is just as easy as editing a comment.

Hopefully that clarifies things a little bit for those who were unsure or struggled with the language barrier.

@Footygamer

@bolid74 should be made staff and his submissions to the system should be set as active automatic 👍

And please add a contribute and browse button to the 3D Kits page.

I'm not sure how best to handle that.

Should 3D and SS  have different forms and timelines or the same? You don't want source images having to be posted in both places so maybe just one timeline and form. But then presumably you want separate browsing systems because showing 3D alongside SS would get very noisy. But that sort of hybrid system would be quite time consuming to code in the short term. These are some of the problems I identified in the original thread a year ago and the complexity of it is why it stalled.

I second adding bolid as a staff member if he's interested at all in doing so. Although I fear that it might lead to him being inundated with more “can you make this English team's kits despite you already working on the whole league system” requests 😅

Thanks @bolid74 for all your submissions!

If you have more you could zip them up and attach them to this thread and i'll do it in bulk to save you the time. But it's great that you've been able to use the new form.

Perhaps on the club's timeline page adding tabs for “2D SS Kits” and “3D Kits” (and perhaps “2D FC12 Kits” etc in the future if their community wants to partake, and “2D Standard Kits” as well) so that there's some separation while still keeping everything navigable?

Quick mockup in Photoshop to illustrate what I mean (the tab buttons don't have to be placed exactly there of course!) - I'm picturing that clicking the tabs would stay on the same page but just fade transition between them.

One other thing is that when downloading the kits, they all have the same filename which is the club's UID. Could it be changed to something like “UID_home.png” or “clubname_home.png” instead?

One timeline and form 👍🙂 and I also think one browsing system. You also have different images in the background browsing system at that works just fine. So what I would do is to add the contribute and browsing button to the 3D page and don't worry about adjusting the browsing system until much later in the process 🙂👍

So downloads are separate but browse/submissions are the same. That will take some work to get right and of course the code changes risk creating more bugs for backgrounds/cut outs 😅 But it should be possible.

Well this one would change things for SS download area.

While we could still have packs split by nation/league. In theory we could also have a download button saying “Download everything new since I last downloaded” rather than having to download each individual pack.

@Footygamer now that the submissions seems to be taking off I think we should prioritise our next step. I believe the next important step is to get the pack uploading working and get all the 22/23 kits pack already uploaded added to the system. I don't believe that people understand the need to upload already uploaded packs here as zip, so we need to find a different strategy 👍🙂

Yes you can. But you only really need to use the new method 🙂👍 this adds the kits to the browsing system when set to active by a moderator.

https://sortitoutsi.net/graphics/browse/2/13002/timeline

So really no need to post them also in the forum. But if you like you can still post them in the forum for now as long as you put them in the new system then all is good 👍

And please upload any finished kits you have already made for 22/23 and 23/24 seasons to the new submissions system 🙂👍

The possibility to upload packs will be added soon (so you can upload many kits in one go), but for now you have to upload them individually.

SS' Official Kits Thread (NO REQUESTS)        for only WIP working for their packs updated SS'Kits right?

Team Name and ID:
League:

Pictures of the kits:

SS' kits Picture & Resources Thread (No Requests, fantasy or leaked kits)          for someone who wants kits also post with images only

both look the same as Picture & Resources thread and Request thread. just one thread for a team name and ID, League, and Pictures of the kits would be better?

3D and SS in the same place

Whether or not 3D and SS Kits use the same system or separate is open for discussion (see this comment).

On the one hand it seems better to have it on the same system because we don't want to people to have to submit requests and post the source images in two places.

But also it's a bit more noisy and confusing having them together with alot going on, on the page.

Do you see it as a problem having them both in the same place? I would be happy to hear your or anyone's thought.

In theory we shouldn't need the forum topic anymore, just the submission systems. I would prefer it was closed because like you say it's confusing having both.

Perhaps we could keep it open for discussion and have an auto post when new submissions are made as well?

Again we don't really need that thread anymore. This page is the equivalent of that thread.

I guess a decision has to be made as I see it these are the options:

  1. Close the “official kits" and “kits request” threads and just use the submission system.
  2. Keep the threads open for chat and have a new comment automatically posted when a submission is made.
  3. Keep the threads open and ask people to post in both.

My preference would be (1) or (2).

What do you think?

Does that make sense.

erm…..i think so 50/50…….bolid74's work SS kits his page 333 is still there, still carries on for updates, added kits so on still in SS Official Thread. I'm thinking better keep going on SS official thread as normal, I don't want to give member confused more, erm…..but

ill closed the thread for SS' Kits Request Thread (NO FANTASY OR LEAKED KITS)     and    SS' kits Picture & Resources Thread (No Requests, fantasy or leaked kits)

but will put https://sortitoutsi.net/graphics/submissions/2/queue?status=pending&type=source&inpack=no (Submission Queue) on the last posting. they can look and do the Submission Queue?

so if members post in SS official then ill let members know about Submission Queue. all members may look and follow as others to Submission Queue.

I keep going through some threads as normal…

SS' kits Template Thread

SS' Official Kits Thread (NO REQUESTS) (remove no requests)

SS' Fantasy Kits Request Thread (NO REAL KITS)

SS' Retro kits

and another SS template, technical help, Susie avatar etc etc.

then see what happens for a few weeks, if any problem, we will sort it out ok?

when I created the SS' kits Picture & Resources Thread  it was only for pictures and resources of the kits to try and keep completed kits and picture of kits separate. I found there were alot of people who post pictures of the new kits for this season but are not actually requesting the kits.

The kit request thread was to allow people to request kits but with the instruction that if the kits were already part of a league pack that was assigned in the WIP thread then the kits should not be requested.

These were all created as a stop gap while the submission system was created and can probably be closed now

I've updated the UI for browsing now so that it's a bit cleaner. It clearly shows how many images and if there are any comments.

It also adds a label if a kit has a 3D version or not. See here Hull doesn't have 3D but Luton does.

Things i'd like to do next:

  1. Automatically import all kits that were previously uploaded as packs into the system.
  2. Find a way to allow browsing by year.
  3. Add a download button next to league names and team names to instantly download an entire league or team even when it's WIP
  4. Possibly remove 3D kits from the SS Kits timeline

(1) Automatically importing kit packs

This will add alot to the timeline, similar to cut out faces (e.g. Ronaldo has 5 pages https://sortitoutsi.net/graphics/browse/1/89496/timeline)

Any issues with this?

(2) Find a way to allow browsing by year.

This I think will be a contentious issue.

Some people will want any kit even if it's not the latest rather than having the FM default ones.

But some people will want to see a specific year when browsing.

I imagine we can just have something like this at the top of every page

(3) Adding a download button for teams and leagues

The main point here is to let people download all the WIP, right now it's really cumbersome for someone to get the English League 2 kits for 23/24.

But it will make things confusing for people who now have two options of how to get packs.

I'm thinking maybe it could automatically detect if an image is in a pack and if it is then then it links you to the pack and if not it links you to a single WIP download that lets you download everything that is WIP (this is a automatically generated zip with config.xml, no need for Hammer or anyone else to create or update this WIP pack).

(4) Removing 3D kits to own timeline

The issue here is sources, we don't want sources uploaded in two places. But maybe this could be fixed easily by just not allowing sources for 3D Kits.

@Footygamer @Shooto @tarajos @bolid74 @tomaszek @Fmanager86 (FUSION DB) @schweigi @siborg

You are all set as working on different leagues in the SS' kits 23/24 WIP thread.

You are now able to upload kits from the leagues you are working on before finishing the complete league with the new submissions system:

https://sortitoutsi.net/graphics/submissions/2

We really want this system to take off as it holds great benefits for both kit makers and users, so we really hope you all will like this system and start to use it 🙂👍

bolid74 and tomaszek have already started to use the system and we really hope it is working well for you.

This system is under development and improvement and additional features will be added over the next month

Take a look at the browsing system where bolid74 and tomaszek's kits have been added so the users can browse and download them before all of the kits have been made for the league(s) they are working on.

Look for bolid74 kits under england and tomaszeks under poland:

Good point. That has always been an issue everywhere on the site. Same with the data update (Burnley are listed as Championship but have the current squad).

I can't think of a quick way to fix that. Possibly by exporting all the fmf files from the data update to XML and extracting the data from there. But that would be quite difficult.

Manual work assigning the right team would also be very difficult though.

You'll need to Login to comment
