Having spent time as a football journalist I can confirm that most London based ones think footballers are their friends.

He's just too limited, for me, to ever really be a useful asset for a team like Spurs

Yeah, he runs around a lot gets 'stuck in' and generally shows a lot of passion but he's a liability on the ball and pretty much a waste of a space in midfield because you can do a lot of his job as a discipline cohesive unit, rather than a reliance on him to run around a lot.

That's why he stood out at West Ham, really, because the team was so awful that he had a carte blanche to run around a lot and make tackles. You don't really need those fire fighter type players at the top of the game.

Well this season all he did was to pick up the ball and run with it in circle trying to dribble opposition players. So yes, he's been bad. Basically now we've got Dembele, Carroll, Sandro, Parker, Sigurdsson, Dempsey and Holtby, with Paulinho potentially coming in. Probably Parker and Siggy will leave.

If thats the player you need replacing how about Valencia?

His favourite trick this season was to receive the ball, stop, pivot 180 degrees, pivot back the other 180 and then play a simple pass inside.

He mixed it up occasionally by smashing crosses out of play too, so you see he's not just as one dimensional as Parker.

Anyway, Marca are saying that Isco has basically signed for Madrid.

Not seen loads of Paulinho but isn't he similar to Sandro? Seems a bit silly.

Nah, he's a proper box-to-box midfielder.

Dembele is a b2b midfielder as well, I thought Paulinho is an adv playmaker.

This. Coup for Spurs. Considering he's 4 years younger then Fernandinho, costing about £13m less and gets in the Brazil squad infront of him.

Is Paulinho basically the replacement for Modric?

Apparently. I've heard people saying he comes in to fill the playmaker hole after Modric departure. He's kinda the same type of player as Fernandinho.

Holtby played most of the season on a more advanced position, like attacking midf behind the lone striker but he hasn't impressed me, I hope he'll get better in the next season.

Oh and Huddlestone I forgot about him, had some good games at the slight end of the season especially after he was subbed on v City he changed the course of the game.

Paulinho's not a playmaker. He's a box-to-box midfielder who used to be a defensive midfielder.

I actually think Huddlestone is a good player.

If you could somehow brainwash him into forgetting about the existence of Big Mac's and get him on an intensive fitness regime he'd be a real asset.

Christ, can you imagine Brazil line up for the opening game of their World Cup in the Maracana, with the intention to put the ghosts of 1950 to rest with a midfield with two Spurs players in it....

About 3 years ago, wasn't Parker near universally loved on here, and KM was the only one who actually said he wasn't very good?

Bit unfair on Fernandinho, a player playing in Brazil has a much better chance of getting picked for the Brazil squad over someone playing in Ukraine, even if he has been playing Champions Leagues, that's just how their selection policy works.

To be honest I've seen much more of Paulinho than Fernandinho, only seen Fernandinho a couple of times.

Magnus Wolff Eikrem's (former Man Utd reserves/youth side) transfer from Molde to Heerenveen is pretty much a done deal, it seems.

Kyle Lafferty has signed for Palermo and Zamparini compared him with Luca Toni!

Also, Napoli have signed Dries Mertens from PSV for €9.5M. Will be interesting to see if he can keep his strong goalscoring record going against tougher opponents in Serie A.

Cardiff linked with Wanyama swoop

Cardiff City are reportedly considering a bid for Celtic midfielder Vincent Wanyama.

Wanyama, 21, has been courted by a number of Premier League clubs, with Southampton believed to have made a £12 million bid for the Kenya international.

However, the Daily Record reports that Wanyama favours a move to newly promoted Cardiff, who it is claimed are also willing to meet Celtic’s asking price.

Wanyama has starred for the Hoops since arriving at Parkhead in a £900,000 move from Belgian side Germinal Beerschot two years ago, with his displays in last season’s Champions League particularly impressive.

The midfielder has previously been linked with Manchester United and Liverpool, but would be willing to settle for a lesser Premier League side in order to test himself in England.

I don't think Wanyama's worth £12 million. Great buy for any mid/lower table EPL club but maybe worth just around £8-9m.

If there was a single bidder then perhaps, but reports suggest there's a few teams with serious interest so that could pump up his price tag a bit - not to mention the fact he's still young and has plenty of time left to run on his current contract.

Well....

Happy to see us sign another young player and another squad player but if Suarez is leaving its abit of a worry, i guess we're just waiting to see if he does go before splashing out on a big first team signing.
