Nah, I think KM is trolling.

He can be spot on sometimes but offers wildly eccentric views when there's a commonly believed view on a subject. Such as this one.

I disagree. KM likes to view things as though they are either black or white. He doesn't view the world in the shades of grey it is. Mandela orchestrated the bombing of high value targets and was convicted as a domestic terrorist. KM doesn't care about the motive, the reasoning, he only cares about what is a quantifiable fact: he was convicted. It's why he enters into a conversation like this because he knows that on a technicality he's right.

It's like saying saying a man who killed an intruder to his house is a murderer. You're right, he did murder that person, but that doesn't paint the whole picture. Simply saying Mandela was a terrorist, in the context of history, is wrong because we now consider the people he was 'terrorising' to be the sword and shield of an evil regime.

But that doesn't change the fact that Mandela was a convicted terrorist. So either KM believes in apartheid because he thinks Mandela was fighting against a just regime, or he is simply entering the conversation just to be technically right. Either way he's an idiot.

KM isn't a troll, nor is he a conspiracy theorist, he's simply a man who enjoys being a contrarian whenever he can.

Isn't a contrarian essentially the same as a troll? Either way, Fantastic's right here. Mandela committed real crimes, against real laws, and was imprisoned for them. However, it fast become obvious that Mandela's incarceration was politically-motivated, and that the ANC felt compelled to resort to violence for a fighting chance of equality, against a government that held all the cards.

When Mandela dies, you'll see all the Conservatives who supported his continued imprisonment (or hanging) sending their commiserations and condolences to South Africa just as much as everyone else, and only the silly ones will dig into Mandela's terrorism.

It had been a long day at work. My feet were aching from the climb up the hill, fortunately my flip flops hadn't fallen apart after I had previously placed some bread clips underneath the bobble to stop them breaking.

I opened the door and placed my key under the blue nail polish. I stopped to hear if my wife was home, but I couldn't hear anything. I barely heard from her at all any more after she lost the baby. I lifted the keyring off the button on my jeans and unzipped my trousers, sliding them off my legs and leaving them on the floor.

I walked over to my fireplace and tossed some doritos in. Even though Sarah might never return part of me hoped that a warm house might serve as a beacon for her to follow, a hollow hope that she would be drawn in by the heat, wherever she was in the world.

I opened the cupboard on the landing and picked up a hangar, carefully removing the coke can ring pull that separated them. My eyes lingered on Sarah's wedding dress, still sitting there after all these years. I picked up my briefcase and placed it on the wall of the cupboard, the velcro on both objects holding it in place, suspended like my marriage to Sarah... a symbolic limbo.

I threw myself to the floor and began to cry. As I sat there weeping I looked across at the wall where I kept the pictures of my friends next to objects I'd lent them. My best friend Gary with the dustpan I had lent him to fill up his bin with water, my sister Lisa and the pool noodles I had lent her to stop her children falling out of bed. But the real photo that was missing mas the picture of the demon who had taken my wife away from me.

I picked up my phone and placed it in the cardboard toilet roll tube and pressed play. The sound of Chopin filled the room I had decorated myself using flakes of my own skin.

I turned and opened my fridge and took out the bottle lying on its side, inside was the hydrochloric acid I had been storing for safe keeping. I carefully placed it in the microwave and carved a hole in the middle of it so it would heat up evenly.

Saying a quiet prayer to myself I poured the acid down my throat and dropped to my knees, pain searing through me as I welcomed the sweet burn of the afterlife and a respite from the turmoil I lived in.

The door opened, it was Sarah, she had got lost and had been at Dominos trying to find directions back to our house.

I mouthed "I love you" to her, before my head crashed down onto the flooring I had recently rubbed up with walnuts. And then it was black.

The issue with Mandela is that he killed innocent people not just 'high value targets' . If it had been just 'high value targets' then I hold my hands up but it is not. The MK was a violent organisation that killed a lot of people and Mandela knew about this. If he had stuck with the ANC then his role would be viewed more favourably but he chose the violent option and there is never a reason to kill innocent people and neither is there a sane reason to back someone who does that.

However I do hold my hands up and say there needs to be more people in the world with his convictions as the world is lacking in people who are willing to stand up and fight off apartheids and oppressive governments. They just need to be less evil than Mandela

I'm sure we can find people from history you admire who have had a hand in the death of more innocent people than Mandela. The point is that it's not your call to judge, you aren't the people who were terrorised. If the man is revered in his own country as a hero and freedom fighter then that is how history will see him. You get to have your opinion, but it doesn't matter to anyone but you.

You are right but yet the same can be said of the people forcing their opinion on me. The few Saffas I do know hate Mandela though and the major rise in black on white crime that was reported (slightly) during the World Cup. He is not as revered as most places would have you believe but then nothing ever is when people try to paint a picture.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1e/Wall_Street_Kid.jpg

Spent all morning trying to earn the inheritance of my Uncle Benedict, but I couldn't get the right options to work for me. I invested my last $400,000 in YBM only for it to get fucked by the interest rates. Then my girlfriend said she wanted to buy a dog buy I couldn't afford it, I hadn't hedged my bets at all. Come the end of the month the executor of the will said because I hadn't bought a house I was cut out of the will. Life at the top is hard.

I've moved on. I wrote about 1,000 words this morning but I don't feel like doing any more work so I'm just fucking around. Just bought LBA2 off GOG and I'm going to see if I can learn how to make Let's Play videos.
