Doesn't matter if you were implying they had a disability. I'm objecting to the fact that you think it's acceptable to use an insult that was created (adapted from the charity Scope's former name) to insult disabled people, and use it to refer to, presumably, people you consider stupid or idiotic.
Fantastic

I'm sure you could, and I'll hold my hands (shamefully) up to it. But I'd like to think that I and most people have moved on from finding humour in those sorts of words and phrases.
I'll keep my hand-wringing lefty ways to myself in future .

I'd use the term christian driver to refer to someone driving in a calm, generous way despite the fact I think christianity is one of the worst things to happen to this planet and some christians are awful people.
We all know where the word came from and you know I wasn't using it in a derogatory manor, you're just picking a fight for the sake of it.
Justicar
Not really a fight is it? Disagreeing with a term on the internet?
Crane
It's scone hunters ffs.

I was in a bad mood at the time, apologies

To be fair we can't control what we find offensive, I don't like racist comments said by my friends, as in actually derogatory, but I say nigga a lot out loud in imitation a lot. It's all contextual. A good friend of mine has a sister with cerebal palsy, and my cousin has MS, so you just adapt what you say and when in different circumstances. I think that's the nicest thing people do, is minding who they're with in order to accommodate them.
Justicar
I agree.
My only point is that the widespread use of 'spastic' is really recent and the unwitting repeating of the word and the resulting mirror behaviour in society could genuinely upset a large portion of society, a portion that really doesn't deserve to hear that word either as a direct insult (not that Ninja was doing that), but as a general part of speech. When being 'like them' is considered to be an insult, and the offence taken confirms their lower status.
Of course language moves on, terms lose their meaning, idiot is an example, and so is cretin (that I even used to describe Ninja's post, above), a hundred or so years ago these words actually meant people with mental and physical disorders, they were terms used before improvements in science and the development of a devoted language towards disabilities was started.
I'm not sure it'll ever get that way with certain racial slurs (nor perhaps, should it).
(BTW this isn't aimed at anyone's views on this thread - I'm just justifying myself)
Anyway, what about those Reds eh?

There's absolutely no reason why not.

United were willing to pay clause 4 Thiago. But Pep believed in Thiago. Moyes not so much (will his football work in PL? Moyes wasnt sure)
Thiago to United on monday then.

Levy won't let him
Ninja
I don't think Levy is going to turn down silly money for Bale, which is what we're talking about here.

No he won't. Turning down £70m+ for Bale is just stupid, its the exact opposite of what he does.
Especially as the longer he stays around the lower his value is going to be.
He's not gonna let him go cheap but when an offer high enough to be in Tottenham's best interest comes along he'll take the cash.
I'm not saying Bale is worth that money or that Moyes will actually deem it worth while to spend that much cash on a position we don't actually need just that if he did want Bale the transfer could definitely happen.
In other news there seems to be whispers that the Garay deal might be happening. I can't for the life of me see why we need him, but there you go.
Sam
Deja vu.

A loss in his first game and already Moyes looks to be in trouble
Ninja
It's alright.
We'll sign Garay and Jones can play in midfield.

He could have had 3 or 4 tonight.

He looked a lot more clinical tonight than last season and Michael Beauchamp cleared two off the line.
In saying that it's against an A-League All Stars team and can't read to much into it.

Hope he gets more time in and around the first team, looks very comfortable on the ball.
