I just have this mental image now of Valencia walking into Moyes office.

Moyes: "Good morning Antonio.

Valencia: "Boss, I have a problem I need to talk to you about."

Moyes: "Go on."

Valencia: "Well, I would like to switch back to my old number."

Moyes: "From the number seven? But why?"

Valencia: "The pressure of the number is getting to me. Every time I step on the pitch I feel it burdening my shoulders. The rich history behind it, the names. Every game I play I feel as though I am not just playing of myself but playing with Best, Robson, Cantona, Beckham and Ronaldo sitting on my back.

Moyes: "I'm the boss and I'll be the one to decide who stays or goes."

I don't know, I got bored and was going to turn it into just parroting FM conversation tree selections, except they're just dull.

It's a number. As much as you'd like to think it matters to him, it means fuck all. Footballers don't see football the same way as fans.


You laugh but Valencia requested number 7 and then requested to go back to 25, after putting in a season of monumentally shite performances wearing 7.

He did put stock into it, I think, and bottled it. Which is odd, because Michael Owen was hardly the toughest act to follow.

Manchester United manager David Moyes has criticised his side's opening to the Premier League season, describing it as the "hardest start for 20 years".
Among their first five games, the champions play Jose Mourinho's Chelsea at home and travel to Manchester City and Liverpool.
Moyes is unhappy with the way the fixtures have come out for his side.
"I find it hard to believe that's the way the balls came out of the bag, that's for sure," said the Scot.
"I hope it's not because Manchester United won the league quite comfortably last year [that] the fixtures have been made much more difficult."

A new Twitter campaign launched by Borussia Dortmund fans is spreading fast as the Bundesliga supporters urge their club to try and resign Shinji Kagawa from Manchester United.

The online movement has a symbol: a picture of Manchester United’s Japanese forward locked behind bars.

The Dortmund fans spearheading the #freeshinji campaign believe that the Japanese international’s lack of participation at the start of the Premier League season for the Red Devils has set a precedent that Kagawa will only be a fringe player at Old Trafford under David Moyes.

Believing Kagawa to be far better than just a benchwarmer, the hope is that the #freeshinji group can rile up enough BVB fans to pressurise their club into trying to resign Shinji before the transfer window shuts on September 2nd.

The likelihood of Kagawa leaving Manchester United this summer however remain virtually zilch, as Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp admitted that he had contacted Kagawa after the departure of Mario Gotze to Bayern earlier in the summer, but that:

[Coming back] is not an option for him this year and not an option for us… This was made obvious quite quickly. Shinji wants to prove himself at Man United this season. I didnt think the response would be any different but better safe than sorry.

Kagawa made 26 appearances for United in 2012-13, scoring six times.

Kagawa is criminally underused at United. From a neutral's perspective I hope Moyes gives him lots of game time and plays him in the right position.

Yeah, but as long as RVP and Rooney are healthy and on form, it'll be difficult for Kagawa to start consistently.

Kagawa is a fantastic player and adds so much creativity to our team. Him behind RVP would be fantastic, last season he was mostly played out of position.

I hope Moyes rates him.
