PSG seem like the only realistic option to me. It'd be interesting to see a Zlatan/Rooney partnership.

Definitely won't happen- I imagine he and Evans were benched with the Chelsea game in mind.

It's not even that.

It was clearly just a tactical decision. Welbeck was probably the best player in the tie across the two legs and did a wonderful job on Alonso, RVP played because he's far better at holding the ball up and a better outlet than Rooney and Rooney was fucking wank on the wing in the first leg.

Exactly, I completely agree with that as well.

Welbeck is also a monster when bursting from deep, he's extremely fucking quick or just has a huge stride and it appears that way. You could Madrid were scared shitless of how quickly United could turn defence into attack, before that moment of absolute brutality from Nani that endangered the lives of children in Syria it was that bad a tackle.

It probably is lazy journalism, but this story is absolutely everywhere and none of them differ. I think there's an ounce of truth in it, especially about his relationship with SAF not being as strong as it was. I agree it was a tactical decision and it was paying off but then it means we have a ~£35M player who doesn't get into our first team for our big games.

As much as I don't read into newspaper stories (I don't even read any newspapers), it's very rare that if every single newspaper has a very similar story on it's back page that there isn't some truth in it.

Yeah, as bizarre as it seemed when the team sheets were announced until the referee lost his marbles that team selection has us going through relatively comfortably. The right selection, imo, and I think Rooney would have been made aware of it long in advance.

It's absolutely everywhere because he didn't play. Not a single paper ran it before hand, now they have some reason to fill up column inches of course they're going to do it. It's a bunch of guessers guessing, and I don't think he 'doesn't get into our first team for our big games' he just didn't get into that one, he's played virtually every game he's been fit for this season.

Also it's extremely similar to what happened with Beckham.

The way I saw the Beckham ordeal was heres a huge game, you're dropped, I'm the boss and if you want to stay here you'll realize that. Then obviously at the end of the season Beckham left because the relationship wasn't the same with Fergie, honestly think it's probably true, although I hate when they use "ESPN understands" or "our sources understand".

Unrelated, but I thought this was amazing.

Their planning had been so meticulous they had even switched around the usual team announcements to try to get into Cristiano Ronaldo's head. Usually at Old Trafford it is the away lineup read out first. On this occasion the public announcer, Alan Keegan, was under instructions to start with the home team and finish with Madrid, changing the order of names as well to leave Ronaldo strategically until last. "Kill him with love," as Patrice Evra had said. Keegan ushered in the returning hero, "the magnificent No7", in a way more reminiscent of Michael Buffer setting up a world title fight at Madison Square Garden.

Well Ronaldo was shite apart from scoring a tap in, so that part of the plan definitely did.

Fergie, unsurprisingly, denies that Rooney is leaving. Doesn't mean anything, the media will still say Fergie is lying like he did with the Ronaldo and Beckham denials.

I still don't think Rooney is leaving, the decision to omit him was tactical and it worked until the red card!

Isn't Rooney being left out for tactical reasons a strong indication he is leaving?

Can't see Rooney being too happy about being a rotation player/ Man Utd paying out his £250k pw or whatever he's supposed to be on.

God your such a fucking twat.

Would say its pretty relevant seeing as Nani was on the end of something he's made a pretty good name for doing himself.

Arbeloa didn't dive, there was contact, just not enough to warrant the red card decision.

When I said 'he's right' I meant his general point about Rooney

Not that bit, I imagine it would have really hurt Arbeloa tbh.

I find it funny how some people are suggesting that Arbeloa dived to get Nani sent off, while also saying the lack of reaction from Real players show that they didn't think it was a red card.

It's not really related.

Arbeloa play acted, that didn't help Nani's case but he wasn't trying to get him sent off, just make sure he got the freekick and Nani booked.

It was the referee's fuck up to send him off.

He kicked somebody in the chest. Intentional or not, it's really not that hard to see why he was sent off.

No, despite Arbeloa clutching it he didn't touch his chest.
