Hi guys
Today I am going to show you how I emulated Enzo Maresca's new Chelsea tactic. Maresca was Pep Guardiola's former coach assistant so he learnt a lot about Pep Tikitaka, possession and positional play. In his Chelsea (as in his Leicester last season) we can see many traits of Guardiola's style. For example, the inverted full-backs, whose main task is to play as an additional midfielder to help the two defensive midfielder and the defense in the build-from-the-back phase and create overloads in the central area of the pitch. The first time Guardiola used the inverted full-back role was during his reign at Bayern Munich, more than 10 years ago, and then he often used this role at Manchester City too. In #footballmanager2024 , to emulate Maresca's Chelsea tactic, I set up a 4-2-3-1 with a positive mentality and two inverted wing-backs since I want my two full-backs to push more forward, they don't have only defensive tasks but also help in supporting the attack phase. In the video you can see how those two players work well and how our team overloads central areas, with only the two wingers wide on the flanks. Our striker often drops deeper rotating position with the two wingers who cut inside or with the central attacking midfielder (I played Nkunku in this role and he became our topscorer!!) who will exploit the spaces left free by the forward. Maresca wants the attacking four to find the pockets, or spaces between the midfield and the defense lines of the opponent, and this is what I replicated in my fm tactic. You can see more details, tactic explanation, stats and highlights in my video on my youtube channel
