One of the worst feelings you can get in FM is when your player has insisted on a minimum fee release clause in their contract and then a club puts in a bid that matches it, leaving you with no choice but to accept and sell your player.
While there is no way to reject an offer that meets the minimum fee release clause, there is something you can do to stop a player leaving for their minimum fee release clause, you just have to be proactive before a matching bid comes in.
What you have to do is lower the players asking price to below the minimum fee, this tricks the AI into submitting offers that are lower than the minimum fee which you are allowed to reject. The AI isn’t smart enough to bid exactly the minimum fee release clause when they think you’ll accept less.
This comes with a downside that you might get alot of bids and have to keep responding to news items, to get around this you can set the option to automatically reject all offers for that player, so you never have to respond to the news items.
The real problem with this tip is knowing when to set it up. If you set a low asking price too early, when no clubs were even planning on matching the release clause, you might encourage interest in the player, which could make them unhappy if you keep rejecting the offers.
But if you don’t set the low asking price and an unexpected bid comes in then it’s too late and there’s nothing you can do and you have to sell for the minimum fee that’s in their contract.
You could try and keep and eye on the player and look out for the “Wnt” icon appearing and only set the low asking price when you’re sure there’s a possibility of a bid that matches the minimum fee, but there’s no guarantee this icon will appear before a bid matching the release clause is made, or if it does, that you’ll notice it in time.
