First of all, most downloads generally include a readme file which gives you step-by-step instructions on how and where to place your newly-downloaded file so take the time to have a look at it. In case of a query regarding a particular download, you are best advised to visit the page dedicated to it and post your question in the comments.
If the file is of a "zip" or "rar" format you'll need to extract it, if you don't have a tool for doing this already (often you just need to right click on the file and click extract) then you can download WinZip which comes with both Windows and Mac version

PC:
There's still one more thing to do before your graphics will appear in the game. Load up Football Manager go to preferences and the "Display and Sounds Tab" and untick "Use skin cache" and "Always reload skin on confirm". Click confirm and the graphics will now appear in your game once again. You can now go back into the preferences and turn the skin cache back on and untick "always reload skin on confirm".
