An absolutely perfect film.
ianbaker
Sounds like a government based gay porn film. No wonder you liked it.
The Platypus
You just making a shit joke or have you honestly never heard of All The President's Men?
Franck
I'm leaning towards the latter.

23 years old and I had not seen it until now. There's a few who probably think its pretty insane to manage that. Anyway, of the three, Empire Strikes Back was the best one. New Hope and Return of the Jedi had their moments too.
Franck

Anyway, Brokeback Mountain and Lives of the Others are infinitely superior to the other two. Moon is quite good, though.
Franck
Why not?

Well, I guess its up to each individual how they process a film.
Franck
I don't usually need more than half an hour or so.
Franck
I think I might be the only one who really liked it. It isn't Skyfall or Casino Royale quality, but it delivered everything I expect from a Bond film and I think it serves as a perfect end to the Daniel Craig-era. Let his Bond retire to some tropical island where he can live out the rest of his days with Léa Seydoux at his side while some other actor gets a go at the role.
Ninja
Kind of bored me if I'm honest, Di Caprio's weakest 'Oscar bait' performance. Not sure Leo actually does a great deal of acting, let alone an Oscar winning performance. At what point does filming a man in the cold looking cold become acting?
Hateful Eight
Dunno what the reception to its been but I can imagine this being one of Tarantino's more marmite films.
I personally loved it, didn't enjoy it as much as Inglorious or Pulp Fiction but I think I preferred it to Django.
Skywalker
I fell asleep
The Platypus
Also, Hateful Eight was Tarantino at his most pointless.
Ninja
Thats true for most bond films even the grittier Daniel Craig ones.
Take Skyfall, Silva's plan is literally pointless. Even if you take it that he wants to kill M face to face, every single thing that happens from the time that Bond gets to the island is completely pointless. There's no reason for him to let himself be captured, and the escape plan apparently reliant on Bond and Q decoding the thing at the second that M is in-front of a select committee. The less said about QoS the better, but in Casino Royale MI5's plan is stupid, too.
The Platypus
Well, maybe plan was the wrong word. What was Blofeld's end game?
Silva wanted to kill M. That was clear. His motives were clear.
Quantum of Solace was garbage, so let's not mention it, as you said.
Le Chiffre was basically just a whiney shit who was in a lot of debt.
I don't know what Blofeld wanted out of all of this. Did he want to kill Bond? I guess so, but he didn't actively try to do it. He wanted to rule the world with information? It's just silly.
The outrageousness and silliness of old school Bond clashed with the grit and "reality" (lol) of Craig's Bond, and it just made for an uneven mess of a movie.
That said, there are very good scenes in the film, and some of it works. It's just a mess.
Franck
The Platypus
Why? Because his dad liked him?
Franck
Because Bond stole his father's attention away from him, yes. It's pretty common for children to hate younger siblings for that reason, Blofeld clearly has some combination of personality disorders that has aggravated that resentment.
Ninja
Yeah, I guess his plan is to be able to control the world through some sort of intelligence network.
I think my biggest problem with Spectre was that Christoph Waltz was tragically underused and there was no need for him to be Blofeld, nor to retcon his past with the story line they went with in the end. It felt like they were trying to get two story lines together, perhaps responding to the fact that Skyfall and QoS were both, relatively, low stakes film by paring a personal storyline with a 'bond saves the world' storyline and in the end got a mismatch of both.
Sam
I liked Skyfall when I saw it in the cinema, but after I rewatched it I just couldn't cope with the amount of plot holes.
It's a shame as Javier Bardem is awesome, Silva was a good character.
The Platypus
Sure. Was it a fulfilling and worthwhile reveal and character motivation? Not for me.
Number 1
It was a good film-making exercise and diCaprio's performance was impressively conveyed given the minimal dialogue. Felt it could've used some stronger work for the villain, and also for Tom Hardy to not bring the unintelligible Bane voice again.
In terms of Spectre, I got enough of it in the cinema to be entertained, but I did feel Blofeld/Waltz was used too little. I felt it had some decent ideas about the layers and layers of technology and how much it actually helps intelligence, and I think Andrew Scott is a good actor so was pleased to see him getting a decent amount of screen-time, but its execution and tying in the role for Waltz wasn't as good as it perhaps should have been, plus as a primary villain, he was underused, hence his motivations were a little rushed. If its true they're bringing Waltz back in the next Bond film, it might be explained better.
Franck
Meh. The action scenes were great, the car chases were good, the Bond girl was pretty, the cinematography was at Sam Mendes usual, outrageously high standard and the ending would tie up the Craig-era nicely. I can't really ask for much more than that from a Bond film.
I can live with a villain with a poorly thought-out motivation of personal resentment and greed, especially considering the cartoon clowns we used to get pre-Craig.
Waltz is conditionally signed on for two more films. He'll be back if Craig returns, which doesn't seem likely at the moment.

He's signed on, but he's spoken publicly about not wanting to do another one.
