Sunderland sign defender Ondrej Celustka from Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor on a season-long loan.

The 24-year-old has made 55 league appearances for his parent club, following spells at FC Tescoma Zlin, Slavia Prague and Palermo.

Celustka, who is principally a right-back, played 18 games for the Czech Republic under-21 side but is yet to win full international honours.

He becomes the 10th new arrival on Wearside this summer.

Sunderland also apparently going in for Quagiarella-ella again if Sessegnon leaves

Sunderland fans are going to love Quagliarella if he goes there. The lad only scores beautiful goals.

Here is your answer:

Karl ‏@Karlton81 40s

The Downing story goes, BR wanted to keep him, the club overruled that as they decided that his performances didn't warrant his wages.

Hasn't he refused all offers from outside of Italy?

I have no idea.

He's probably going to stay at Juventus and rot on their bench if that is the case though.

Sunderland fail in a bid for Napoli's Lorenzo Insigne, according to the Daily Mirror.

The diminutive forward impressed in this summer's European Under-21s Championship, scoring the only goal in Italy's 1-0 group stage win against England.

"The Sunderland rumour is true," says agent Fabio Andreotti, "but Lorenzo wants to stay, even if it means earning less money."

Pity, would have been a class signing

Both him and Matri have been linked with Lazio at various times this summer, with the latter probably off to Napoli I'd be more than happy with Quags. We need an alternative to Klose and knowing Lotito we'll end up with Matavz or Marica...

Matri was linked with Sunderland too.

Although I think they've been linked with every Italian player/person/pasta dish/ice cream since Paolo Di Canio arrived.

You have to wonder why someone like Insigne would move to the fucking blackhole that is the North-East of England, to play for bloody Sunderland. Napoli are probably the most potent they've been since Maradona was kicking it there in the 80s, why someone would give that up to live in an area where seeing cars on fire is routine is beyond me.

Sunderland really must believe Di Canio has some kind of clout with Italian players. I don't thin I've ever seen any Italian talk kindly abut him, save for Lazio Ultras.

The Insigne link/comments is from the start of the summer I think. Before they signed Giaccherini and Altidore.

Not to mention playing in the Champions League, as compared to taking part in the Tyne-Wear derby.

That said, he did manage to convince Giaccherini to come, so there must be some truth in that.

Aye, I genuinely have no idea why anyone would trade living in Italy playing for probably the 2nd best club there to move up here.

Some parts of Newcastle are nice - but that's it. Everywhere else is a shit hole.

Di Canio seems to think working under him is a massive pull for any player - I'm really unsure why.

I dunno, I'd be lying if I said I can remember seeing him over a full match but from his stats and the reaction of varous Lazio sites he's not what we're looking for. 22 goals over two seasons in a league where Graziano Pelle got 27 or so isn't really encouraging.

Bit like us and the French connection we have.

I'm not saying that Naples is all that good - I'm almost certain they had a big riot there, and its in the bit of Italy getting it most in the neck from their economic problems. But I'd have thought that, having sold Cavani and Lavezzi in consecutive years, Napoli would wanna keep hold of a key player or two like Insigne. Plus I'm pretty sure he'd just move to Turin or Milan soon enough.

Quagliarella is probably a better bet.

To be fair to him, by all accounts he's massively improved since he left Italy. He also has a good name.

I think I just assumed he was on a similar level to Mertens and the other highly rated Eredivisie players.

He's got a release clause of £8m according to a few sources.

Also owned by a third party who are believed to be reluctent to sell him this window, but I imagine it would be hard to resist getting their client a move to United.
