It's just for 13 episodes so it's only going to be mid season filler again.

Stopped watching this about 4 episodes in this season, was nothing there to keep me watching. Was kinda hoping it'd be cancelled tbh

They've given themselves room to breath now. With Pierce gone, and Jeff being able to have story arcs outside of Greendale, you've got the potential to bring in two new regular characters. They tried that approach with Parks and Rec and it paid massive dividends for that show.

On Parks it happened on the back end of season 2. Not season 5.
They also replaced Paul Schneider, who ended up being a pretty needless character (albeit a charming one).

Community was at its best when Jeff was the focus and the others backed him up with silliness. It's lost the plot now.

It says in that article that Donald Glover's real reason for leaving was for the opportunity to create his own musical comedy show. Seems a little odd, surely you'd see off Community, so you can bring the fanbase with you.
