Apparently our plan is to replace 6 players from our team, sign Cavani to play out of position, and play probably the least deserving player at the club next season, apart from Rio, at centreback.

And someone got paid for that nonsense.

Why the fuck would we want Cavani? The rumours aren't going away, he's not that good, he's overpriced and we don't need him!

yeah the reason he wants to leave PSG is cause he isn't playing up top.

If United do manage to spend £200 million, how the hell are they going to pass FFP?

Also, saying ye have that much to spend is stupid. Clubs are just going to hold ye to ransom now knowing ye have money to burn. Or else I hope that is what's going to happen anyway

Yeah, because Carvalho and Shaw are totally unrealistic transfers.

I don't think anyone at the club has said it, pretty sure its just paper bollocks.

I'd be very, very surprised if we spent more than £100m net.

Obviously there's no way we'd get all of them and yes clubs will definitely do that.

As for FFP we more then comfortably make profits every year and FFP is calculated over 3 seasons i think anyway. So whether its 200million now or 200mill spread over 3 transfer windows we should still be fine

Yeah, because Carvalho and Shaw are totally unrealistic transfers.

It's funny to see Carroll try and convince himself that this whole 'Liverpool being better than United' thing is long-term. Denying that United can't pull off these sort of deals is just fear of what will happen if they do. It's clear that United will spend a shit load and get back to the top before long, and possibly as soon as next season.

I've got no hate towards Pool (mainly because they aren't United) but fuck me Carroll's a blithering idiot.

No, it isn't. He's in control of his movement, he gets the ball and none of the man, his studs are low and he leads with one foot. The player shrugged it off and it was their throw-in.

Quite a few people have been a lot like that this season, now we've had a bad season no player would ever want to play for Manchester United ever again.

Their logic is flawed anyway, Suarez joined Liverpool the season after they finished 7th.

I meant the likes of Muller, Kroos and Hummels. Thought you already had Shaw and not know much about Carvalho. I cant see either Dortmund or Bayern selling very happily.

Its funny how youve completely made shit up? Weve massively overachieved this year and Id be happy to get 4th next year and go past groupstages in CL. We were 7th last year, this has been a fantastic season but its going to be twice as hard.

And Sam Im not saying players wont want to come, just the ones mentioned I dont see their clubs selling

I assume they're comparing it with the difficulties Liverpool had.

The difference being is, at the very least, we can throw money at the problem, we could double Müller's wages, for example, and he'd still earn less than Ashley Young.

Also, at the risk of provoking a shit storm, we're a bigger draw than Liverpool, certainly in mainland Europe (less certainly in Scandanavia)

I do see what you mean, the general consensus from most fans was 'United can't get anybody good' and 'United aren't a big club anymore' but when you see the names you're referring to i.e. Gotze, Muller, Reus etc. I can't see most of them joining us. But we can still attract big names, one season won't change that.

Hummels will probably leave in the summer, but I imagine he'll join Barca.

Out of the players on that Van Gaal list, Shaw and Carvalho I can see arriving. Although being Dutch, I bet he'll start Buttner instead.

I agree with your last point but I dont think itll help attract players as much.

Out the three I mentioned, Hummels is probably most likely as you need a good defender and he could be leaving Borussia. Still dont see him coming, but it wouldnt be a major surprise

Vidic was never fast either. As long as he's partnered with someone who has a bit of pace it would be fine.

Hummels is certainly interesting, a classy ball playing centre half who isn't Evans (who I still don't really rate) would certainly improve us, if for nothing else than the fact that Ferdinand and Vidic have for too long aimlessly hoofed the ball forward and playing the ball out is not something Jones, and to a greater extent, Smalling, are particularly excellent at either.

Still don't think centre back is an absolute priority though, and would rather we were looking at a left back, central midfielder, and winger or two first.

My favourite part of the description.

Evans reminds me of Cleverley (except the passing sideways part) hovering on the edge of being good, but ended up remaining average.

Jones will be a great centre back, if we played him there more often instead of playing him in midfield or right back over and over again. We need an experienced, strong centre back in the summer to bring in the experience to help out Smalling/Jones. With Rio (probably) and Vidic going a centre back for me is a must.

I think a Cleverley comparison is more than harsh on him!

But yeah, he just doesn't convince me, and I'm not sure why he's so highly rated by some of ours, possibly because of the irish connection?

At his best he's about what we need, a solid defender (whose surprisingly quick) and plays out nicely from the back, but there's always a mistake in him and he just doesn't inspire me with much confidence. He's a nice age though in terms of squad composition and a nice squad player to have. Don't think he's anything more than that.

If we didn't strengthen we'd be going in to next season with Smalling, Evans, Jones and Michael Keane as our options which is probably about ok, with Valera about ready for the step up at right back according to most who watch the reserves that should be adequate, especially without European football.

Put it this way, if we ended up at the start of next season with Hummels at the back but still relying on Valencia, Young, Nani, Cleverley, Fellaini, Fletcher, or Carrick in front of him I'd be disappointed. It's certainly a position we might look to do something in, but after DDG the forwards, Mata, and (arguably) right back, its about the last place I'd be looking.

What are your expectations for next season? Partially curious, partially because I dont think Jones, Evans and Smalling are good options for what the expectation might be.

Saying that you conceaded less goals than us, so I cant really talk

Depends who you ask, I'd be happy with improvements with the way we play football and a top 4 finish to then push on.

I'd agree with you if we were talking about spending money with the sole aim of making United the best team in the world, but I think its better to view it as the start of a process and avoid changing too much too fast. Give them the season, and if 2 of those 3 can't cement the position then its something that can be looked at next summer.

If United get van Gaal and spend £100m or more I reckon it'll be either ourselves or Liverpool dropping out of the top four next season in their place. I don't think finishing in the Champions League places has ever been harder.

Manchester United is the most popular football club in Sweden, with more fans than any local club. Liverpool are probably more popular in Norway, but not by much.
