Just a small question - who did you beat in the round of 16? You seem to have jumped straight from the group stage to the quarters in your resume.
Oh, and did Thurtell play any part in the post-group stage part? No mention of him whatsoever...

Belgium?

Cheers Bizarre, really appreciate it.
Cheers Dan, appreciate that.
Thanks, very much a surprise.
Cheers KEZ. Lucky I would say.
Played Belgium. Sure the screenshot is on the previous page. Thurtell was injured and won back his place back for QF, did sod all and was replaced by Hamilton.
Correct.
What a Youth Intake. Going to be interesting to see how these guys progress.
Cymro
First game back as World Champions and it didn't go to plan. We scrapped through the game and got a result. A real defensive performance. Hardly a World Class one either. We play Algeria next month. Should be an entertaining game. Might blood some of the youngsters through.
Cymro
Nice victory. Thurtell on the score sheet and the man mountain himself Duffy bagging a brace from the penalty spot. He also pulled off some wonder saves. Really good stuff from the side, lot of rotation. Think the Assistant is booking one more fixture next month. So will be interesting to see how we get on.
Cymro
Normal service resumed here. Thurtell and Hamilton score and the rest is history. Sad to see that former club Brisbane Roar withdrew Murphy and Duffy. Would have nice to have them. But you can't have everything.

Pohang and Australia are in for a massive season this year. The club are looking to push as much as they can on the continent. This season is going to be challenging as the old guard stepping away and the new young generation are coming through. I am looking to blood them through whilst trying to win all that comes before us. It is going to be hard that is for sure. Something I am going to look forward to. With Australia, it was all about the World Cup. I was very confident of our chances, because of the squad I possess. I had the golden generation of Australian players and to go through and win the World Cup was nothing short amazing. But the price of the World Cup had a knock on affect on the club, and also me!
Post World Cup had a big affect on the club. The dejected South Koreans, after a humiliating World Cup for them had little motivation in playing for the club. The form towards the end of the season dived amazingly. So I took the bold step of really throwing the young guns in. I knew I had the league wrapped up but in the interest of the players, if they were not going to put a shift in I was going to get them to sit on the bench. The results of Seoul and Chungju were disappointing to say the least.
Winning the league by 15 points is fantastic. The young squad I possess to go and play so maturely is brilliant. Next season the boys have to build on this. They will only get stronger.
KFA Cup is a cup we just seem to boss. We love the this cup and the cup loves us. Some good victories there.
Winning the Champions League for the fifth time in a row is an amazing feet no matter what the standard. Yes this is not Europe but it is equally competitive. The group stages are not but it seems that the sides gear up in the knock out rounds. Even the sides you play in the group stages. The final was a tense one and in the second leg we parked the bus and were comfortably home.
I dislike FC Bayern. Not lie. We almost had it. Conceded late on in normal time to go to extra time and then to lose it after scoring first in extra time is heart breaking. Stronger than us ... yes, but better no.
Some of the players who played. The squad is a diverse one and one that I have enjoyed assembling mainly down the youth ranks that we possess. Squad has firmly settled to the possession based game I play and that is outstanding.
Not many deals in and that is how it will continue for the time being. Most deals will be shipping out on loan, money or frees.
Finances look cultured as per usual. Just about surviving but that is all that matters. I am reducing the wage budget where possible and selling most of the old guard to ensure we have some cash rolling in. But being restricted by such a small stadium also hinders us.
Key Player Profiles:
The gift that keeps on giving. Unreal goal to game ratio this season. 52 club games and 64 goals, what a fantastic player. Had he been fit at the World Cup he would have easily scored more. There is always interest in him, I have told him I will sell him but no one comes in for him. It is really sad because it is likely he will miss the boat in playing in Europe soon. Guy has been a stalwart for the club.

Next Season
So my time at Pohang is winding down. I have loved every second of it. There is no job that I would like out there at this current time. But you never know. I am not going to apply for anything. I have two more personal challenges left on this journey. I really ave enjoyed South Korea. Yes I keep on winning, but the fact that the last three seasons I have begun to see the young guns push through, and I know how bright the future of the club is. Last season was tough. Commitment with Australia and a Pohang side in transition with the retirement and releasing of the old guard has meant many young guys got a chance.

Yes, that is right. New job and a club I have had my eye on for a while. Perennial underachievers in Saudi football. A club that has produced its fair share of international players and a club with outstanding facilities now face a tough relegation battle. A club that is now in financial mess, underachieving squad, relegation dog fight and no transfer budget. What a challenge this will be.
Still talk about that 2014 defeat as it was yesterday. What about the World Cup? The Olympics? Te countless Champions League? All for nothing, what really matters is that defeat.
Targets are completely unrealistic. We are not good enough. End of. Going to need to change the club mentality to start with then work with what I got. Youth development is going to be key. Build them up and sell them to earn money to boost the ailing finances.
Cymro
The move away from South Korea and Pohang in particular was difficult. I enjoyed my time with Pohang, building a dynasty of mass proportions but really it was time to move on. Good times cannot last forever. Pohang is a club that now has a structure to be proud of. It is producing youngsters year on year that will end up being top players. I am genuinely looking forward to this adventure in Saudi Arabia. The club has a big reputation in Saudi football but are not punching at their weight. They are struggling deeply and are on the potential verge of relegation from the top flight of Saudi football. This what makes this challenge all the more fun.
History of the Club
Al-Shabab FC is a Saudi Arabian professional football club based in Riyadh. It was founded in 1947, and was named at first Shabab Al Riyadh, but later in 1967 was named Al Shabab. Al Shabab is well known in Saudi Arabia as one of the best in football. Al Shabab club is also well known for producing great players, as Saeed Al-Owairan who scored the crucial goal for Saudi Arabia against Belgium in the 1994 World Cup. Also Fuad Amin, who scored Saudi Arabia's first World Cup goal against Netherlands. Al Shabab has a reputation as a selling club, selling many of its top prospects to major sides in Asian football.
Club Profile - Just over a years time Qatar will host the World Cup and I am looking forward to see if that has any impact on the game in terms of youngsters coming through. As for Al-Sadd, well it was a massive club at one stage but has been on the steady decline since the start of the save. They have been bouncing up and down the league in term of position and hopefully under my guidance they will feature regularly in top 3 places on a regular basis. Finances are secure but when you look later on at the finances you will think we have a bit of money to play with.
General Info - On a sharp decline. Got a lot of work to do to restore the pride. Affiliated to Turkish giants Beşiktaş. The reputation is dire and also needs work. A restoration project of the highest order is needed.
Manager Profile - Things are once again plateauing out. The bars are in a nice position. Disappointed that the stats haven't increased but I don't think they mean much.
Facilities - Our stadium is of a very good size, and in a good condition. The facilities are excellent and hopefully we shall see some great youngsters emerge from the academy. They are amongst some of the best, but when we have the money I will look to continue to develop them when possible.
Squad The squad possesses some good talent but will need to be improved upon. Going to look to blood some youngsters through as well as sign some decent foreign talent when money permits.
Staff - Backroom needs addressing urgently. Simple and as plain as that. I hope to bring in Clint Dempsey, my assistant from Malaysia and South Korea. He's familiar with how I role. Whether he will come to me is another question.
Finances - What a mess.
Cymro
How things stand in the league. We have a fair bit of work to do to survive. Not many games left in the season too.
The standard of the league is in decline, once rated the second best and now in 5th. I managed to build the South Korean league up to be the best, I hope to do something similar with the Saudi league, if I can.
As the standard goes down so does continental qualification.
Bizarre
Cymro
Love to bring him, but I have me eye on Hamilton. He's potentially available on a free.

Great start to the AFC Asian Cup for us. A trophy the nation has not won since 2015. Thurtell taking his Pohang form into the international scene and really giving Saudi Arabia a real run around. Could have bagged a few more. We are continuing where we left off for the World Cup. Looking forward to see how this campaign goes. Needless to say we are favourites and should be winning this tournament.
Qatar never troubled us. We were good value and again could have scored more. Murphy bagging a brace and Thurtell scoring the other. Should be progressing now from the group.
Jordan took their chances and made it uncomfortable for a period of time. However some tactical tweaks and some shouting from the sideline ensured we bagged another two goals to secure us the victory.
A next round against the might of Oman awaits ...
Cymro
Not in doubt really. The Wilson and Thurtell combo were at it again and Oman didn't stand a chance. Ideally would love more than the three goals but got to take three goals and a clean sheet. Into the Quarter Finals.
Cymro
Similar to that of the Oman game. UAE gave it a go but don't have the quality to mount a serious worry. The side is a joy to manage. They have bought into the system and I try and reward the players who consistently seek to be positive in their play.
Cymro
Asian Cup surprise package Lebanon have been really good in the tournament. Sadly for them it was a game to far and got taken apart off the park by an Australian side at the top of their game. Frank Duffy got MOTM for saving one shot and scoring a goal. Huge effort that.
Cymro
Another dismantling of South Korea and another trophy. So pleased to win this competition as it now cements my position as one of the great international managers. South Korea came out all guns blazing but this was a game that Duffy should have been rewarded as MOTM. Scoring a crucial penalty and pulling off a string of saves. Murphy and Thurtell both bagged goals to complete an impressive victory over South Korea.
Cymro
Costa Rica strangled us for possession at times and had line share of the dominance of the possession. However our strike force took us over the line to complete a fantastic international period for Australia.
Cymro
So the first batch of youngsters through under my stint. Lots of positives here. I really would like these guys to develop. Most will need to be sold on eventually to help raise funds for the club. We are in that mode at the moment.
Cymro
Coming in to Al-Shabab (KSA) at the tail end of the season was going to be tough. There is a lot of pressure to return to the good times. The club has made hay in domestic cup competitions but in reality it is the league that the club needs to be making waves in. We need to be playing Champions League football. This will give us much financial assurance and ease issues there. The club has many players who need to be shifted on. My job is to do that whilst trying to remain competitive.
How my games went. Managed to sneak two trophies in there. Plenty of positives on show. But I don't feel the squad was that good. Felt sides under estimated us and we were able to snatch wins. Not complaining but there we go.
The man who has been with me at my last four clubs. He may not set the world alight but he's been with me since Darul Takzim and I take him where I go because I can trust him. He rejected the offer of being my assistant with Australia. Can't blame him.
My one signing, came in the way off a free transfer after being offered to me via his agent. Released from the FFA Academy in Australia. An academy that produced the likes of Duffy and Walker for me. He played a few games and was a handful. He is a bright prospect. This deal gave me food for thought as I went back to the FFA and plundered some of their top prospects. A win deal for me at club and international level.
Still don't look pretty. But a work in progress.

Trying to build our way back up the league will be a must. I feel we can do so but it all depends on the new signings, if I can make any and also will financial restrictions hinder us. I have little talent to sell at the moment, I feel the best we can do is one or two places higher than we finished this season. We don't have the real quality that we need to possess to mount a title challenge.

All good things must come to an end!
China were left reeling after Thurtell's first minute goal. Not really a way back for them. Thurtell scored a well rounded team goal before Australian legend Murphy confirmed the victory in the 87 minute. Can't complain.
Cymro
The legend has surpassed another Australian great. Fantastic achievement.
This is how Murphy looks now. Remember signing him whilst at the Roar. Never thought he would progress this far or achieve what he has done. Always had high hopes for Jai Keen, but sadly, Keen has followed in the Harry Kewell mould. Class but never fit to display it on a regular basis. 117 caps and 95 goals. Won't be to long before he gets a ton of goals. I can't see him carrying on past the Confederation Cup in about a seasons time. He certainly won't make the next World Cup.
Cymro
Tunisia despite having a reasonable amount of possession, really struggled to deal with our attacking intent. Hamilton, Thurtell and Wilson goals were all good enough to see off the rising African nation.
Wales were far more competitive than most nations we have faced and another real good test for the squad. Hamilton's goal was enough to secure us a victory and cement our place as world leaders.
Cymro
Quite worrying mind. Need money.
Going to be a struggle to be competitive, but going to give it a shot.
Have the third worst reputation in the top flight of Saudi Arabian football. Want to improve this quickly.
