#801873 Save Ideas: 6 Teams Who Never Won Anything

A few years ago I read articles about Union Berlin that were quite complementary of this club's overall friendly climate and culture.  Alte Forsterei is the stadium. Among the many topics in this lengthy article was the view of the stadium as that of more what true football lovers appreciate.  Smaller. Tighter.  A community coming together as opposed to the large, overly noisy and just too impersonal (though perhaps impressive from architechtural and organisational perspectives).  The easy contrast is with the often unfilled Olympic stadium for Hertha Berlin.  There is just no comparison for atmosphere or views around the ground, for fan comraderie.  Maybe part of the feeling and club image as the “little guy” who tries so hard fits, and it would be bad if “Die Eiserne Union” actually won a big(ger) title.  There are many who thought it might spell the death of this great small club once they tasted the big money of the Champions League just a few seasons ago.  (This is why so many of their faithful were not so quietly happy that their venture into the CL was a disaster.)  The fanclubs were quite nervous when the business-only-focused-types were talking of stadium expansion and more.

One thing that I think is probably available to view on something like YouTube would be the club's hosted free Christmas concert.  It's a sing-along. Everyone can participate.  When I read about it some years back, my understanding was that admission was free. There's a programme for this annual event, but for a number of songs, everyone is a participant. All voices sing together. The joys are the voices of those all around you.  I've seen photos with many holding candles and it is December so it's dark all around. I think these are just some of the few aspects that make a stopover in this part of Berlin what is so appealing for the cultured groundhoppers.  And - you can learn about the Captain of Kopenick….

So if you takeover Union Berlin as the FM manager and take them to the top, just remember to keep a few of the aspects that make this smaller club the envy of many, many. The Germans call it Vereinskultur.  Modernity has eroded this mightily from many of the big, familar named clubs that come to mind when one thinks of German football.  Union stands out as something quite, quite different.  Noting also their firey (but often muzzled) differences between a club that goes by BFC Dynamo, a club and presence that were just too nearby, too much of a very dark shadow.  I think this is also truly a reason why Union has such a special place in the hearts of so many.

Okay, I am looking at this for the first time. And I immediately like this idea of long sleeves for the jerseys. Please pardon what will now be naive questions. I truly do not know - and you can now tell that I am not much acquainted with football manager graphical things like kit and how they are actually employed in the game.  If Footygamer, hammer9, or someone else do not mind helping, I am most appreciative.  My first question is if these long sleeve (LS) jerseys are for the club's information page only.  Please do not get me wrong, I think that would actually look better as compared to simply the usual short sleeve.  So plenty of good aesthetic value alone to seeing long sleeve home jersey, away jersey and third too (if a club has one) on the club's landing page.  And the second question is:  Is it applicable for FM22 or FM23 LS jerseys/kit that you have archived here to just as easily be applied to the FM24 game?  My hunch is ‘yes,’ but I truly do not know.

And - when I see “template” on this page, I think: Oh? If one has the FM24 In-Game Editor, and one wishes to alter the jersey, does one then have the chance to edit a long sleeve jersey as opposed to the usual short sleeve jersey only edited image?

Here's the fourth question:  Does this have any bearing on the length of a player's jersey sleeve during the 90 minute home or away match in the stadiums? If not, that's okay, but I would wish to learn if a FM gameplayer can somehow make sure a full team or, at least, if individual players could appear in the match wearing long sleeve jerseys. Can this be specifically designated per player?  With particular focus on the goalkeepers.  I think that ever since iconic Spanish keeper Iker Casillas made short sleeves “cool” for the GK (and others like G. Buffon too), well, so the trend has gone.  But is it possible to “force” a GK to be longsleeved for the 3D matches?  Or, say, a striker or centreback?  Right now in the FM games it just seems to me to be completely random happenstance.

Sorry for these very newbie questions/LS topics. I am sure they have been asked before on these pages in the years past. If so, please kindly point me to what I should have read prior to typing here today.  Thank you for your patience with my questions.  Any help is indeed appreciated.

Hello, Stato M. Just have to try this out. Thank you. Have to say, your screenshot work of your skin truly catches one's attention when browsing all of the FM24 yeargroup skin offerings, as the eye sees Birdy and the images you shared on the first page of this thread with what, I guess, some might call New (very big) White Hart Lane and the steep, sloped end. Thank you for offering a skin like this. Surely it is fine work like this that inspires big cup wins like this time last week, yes? 😉 Thanks for sharing this. Those who dare, do.  And obviously they skin too.

Even though perhaps many have moved on to the newer seasons' matchballs, it is still  important to show gratitude to those who worked to do these (and the updates in the many months afterward). Thank you to Bartdude and his friends/colleagues (like DazS8) for doing all of this work on our behalf. You make it indeed easier to both play and enjoy the game. Thank you for sharing your talents with us, strangers.  Most of us do not have the talent to do this. Even if so, not the patience to do the trial and error you go through to make these.  There are more than sufficient matchballs here for each of us to find ones that work for what we seek in terms of colour schemes, patterns. Thank you for so freely sharing your skills with graphics work. Muchas gracias.

Let me help revive this thread a bit - as I think that this topic of green grass patterns on the pitch is something we all think about. How can we not think about it as we observe match after match?  The last comment above was made on 21 May 2024.  That forum commenter referenced a resource named  “Fez's Enhanced Turf Textures FM24 v5 -  New enhanced look of grass textures for Football Manager 2024.”  The short summary is “better turfs.”  Is this so?

This mod/file appears to have had a lot of downloads since its origin date of 7 November 2023.  Please then let me ask of forum members here:  Might you have experience with this FM game add-on and do you find it to be an improved view of stadium pitches?  It's approximately 58MB in size as a file.  Is it an improvement on the FM24 original pitches we see during gameplay? If you have used it, would you recommend it to others?  And, if so, why?  Thank you in advance to those reading this post. Cheers.

Thank you, Priority76, for helping/suggesting/offering ways to work-around the aesthetics of, yes, what can/might be called more ugly pitch patterns.  Ah, I guess in today's world, one can call it simply being ‘too priviledged’ when one has preferences & wishes for better pitch patterns.  But perhaps it's like art:  There are subjective and objective assessments.  For what it's worth, I only find the big circles pitch pattern unappealing.  (And it seems to be what I always get 😉  Too bad we cannot get the groundskeeper to “relay the pitch” and obtain a preferred stadium grass cut pattern, eh?

Please let me do a little bit of apologising to Priority76, for I believe he is the creator of this helpful fmf enhancement.  When making the post above several hours ago, I did not realise I could click on the thumbnail/small picture to the upper left of your first post on this thread.  There, in your example screenshot, you clearly show three different stadiums where the corners were missing and you added them (before & after).  If you are doing that with many of these more top flight stadiums, then you are indeed doing tremendous work to improve the  appearance of the FM game.  Visually we as gameplayers spend a lot of time trying to see if our 11 players on the field are going to do well during 90 minutes. If very helpful visual improvements have been made surrounding the pitch due to your work, well, goodness this adds so much. Thank you, Priority76.

Hello to all. I fully recognise that this was a topic from now five years and three months ago. However, I am curious as to how it worked out or if it worked out.  AtheonX, would you care to comment? (if you are still active here, of course.)  I have always wondered why there is latitude and longitude in the FM database for many of the stadia and, yes, of course the many, many cities in which these sport clubs play. Surely that latitude and longitude data is used in the game, yes?  We all fully understand why teams like Shaktar Donetsk haven't been anywhere near their city nor their now demolished stadium. But - it makes no sense for a 2. Team/Reserves team to get the better stadium (GS Arena) and the first team plays in a lesser venue (Kippermoen).  Further, it makes very little sense that a gameplayer has zero capability during gameplay to make/adjust the simple stadium switch during gameplay – a stadium swap within one's very own club, yes!?  So, yes, gentlemen, I am curious how this worked out –  and if there are any gameplay lessons learned for the rest of us. Thank you.    Note:  Perhaps there have been significant improvments in the more recent FM 20xx versions. If so, and if anyone can definitively say, please do. Thanks.

Please let me add my thanks to content creators and enthusiastic gameplayers like Bartdude, Dazs8, and JakDevlin who make these better, more easily visible match balls available. Guys, your enthusiasm for this game and your skills as graphic file creators is greatly appreciated - over the years of dedication & sharing what you do. Thank you for making the straight-out-of-the-box FM game much, much better. You increase the fun & enjoyment of gameplay factor.  Yes, though I surely appreciate the skills it must take your to create these balls that look just like the real-world  Adidas, Puma, Mitre, Select, etc. ones, it is all the better to be able to see matchballs with the high visibility elements as during FM gameplay the hues of the grass pitches in differing stadia varies.  That's normal; the colours of the grass fields should vary from city to city or nation to nation throughout the seasons of the year. But that grass hues variance can all too often lead to making it more difficult to view the ball during the match. So thanks to you all. Now we have lots of very good  “options!”  🙂  to be able to keep our “eye(s)” on the ball.  Big kudos to you guys.

Hi.  Can we confirm what Bielsa is a Legend (and - yes, he, as a trainer, most certainly is 🙂 wrote above three weeks ago?   He wrote, “Yes, if you save in editor.”   And the question was if this fmf file originally created for the FM20? game for Weather enhancements can also be used now for the current FM24 game.  I think what Bielsa means if that a) Yes, it can indeed be used, but b) a gameplayer has to take this weather.fmf file and specifically open it  in the FM24 Pre-Game Editor.   1. Open the file in the Editor using the latest FM24 game's database; but 2. make no changes. And then 3. must “Verify”  and “save” in the FM24 Pre-Game Editor, yes?  Do I get the steps to use this fmf file correctly?  Thank you to all who help newer gameplayers who are trying to learn how to best use these FM game enhancements. Gracias.    For the creator of this weather improvement of the FM game:  Many, many thanks.

Hello, Anderzbaz. I am new to all of this. So I wish to apologise for being “much too newbie” in advance. Thank you for offering up this help/advise with config files. What intrigued me about your YouTube video is the lines about altering or changing the match ball.  That, to me, is a major shortcoming of the FM series – as the creators of this game ought to build into the game much easier flexibility for the gameplayer to make a few mouseclicks to simply select a better/different match ball prior to every match - whether it be for a nation's league, a cup match or an international match like World Cup nations qualifiers.  Here is my question for you:  Do you have knowledge of a good how-to video on replacing/substituing the FM(2x) game's built-in match ball?  A simple example I would very much like to see demonstrated in video would be replacing the French Ligue1 or German Bundesliga used league ball with something easier to see – example:  The generic (very bright) white ball with light blue flecks that was used as the FM game's generic ball in FM21 was excellent for ease of visibility for a 90 minute match.  Or replacing it with something that looks very much like the real-world  mustard-coloured Nike winter ball the English Premier League is using right now in mid-November 2024 - that shade darker yellow ball is bright and superb for visibility.  If there is an easy-to-understand video out there sharing how gameplayers can do this act of matchball replacement for themselves in-game, that Help Video would be pure gold. If you (or anyone else reading this) happens to know how-to, I would be most appreciative. Thank you.   And – I hope your Gunners do well this season. Cheers.

Hello.  I too am overall new at this.  And it is very tantalising (means - interesting & intriguing) to think of major club and minor club stadium improvements over the overly-generic poor rendering of stadiums in the base games like FM24.  Frankly, the game creators do very little to allow us to improve on the often awfully ugly stadia that they give us. So I am sure that the creator(s) of this fmf file have generated plenty of interest amongst FM gameplayers - with this fmf file available as announced at the start of this thread. Yes, I am one who is intrigued. Damsgaard above is clearly another. Damsgaard's extremely clearly worded post (above) has to be one of the best ones I have seen on this website. Kudos to you, mate.  I think we all wish to know exactly what is in the content of these 16,000 edits.  Now here is my simple question:  Do any of these 16,000? (That's a lot.) FM24 database stadium edits include adding the corners to stadiums that lack the corner seating/stands?  Examples from the real FM24 game:  Valladolid of Spain & FC Bordeaux of France.  In the game we get as purchasers, there are no corner seats or stands for these two example stadia I mention. The corners feature only the ugly, emptyness and perhaps a first aid small station or fast food stand.  So that is my question:  Are these stadium fix.fmf  edits, edits to add these missing stadium corners?  (Please do not use Manchester United's Old Trafford as a pictoral example in this thread - as overall it looks rather good in the base game we purchase).  Rather use stadiums that SHOULD have the four corners filled with stands - but sadly do not.  I think that this is what most of of your potential gameplayers are interested in:  CORNER seating/stands – that might be part of your 16,000 fixes?   No, we are not interested in seat colour changes. Everyone can do that themselves with the FM In-Game Editor, I do believe.   If I somehow misunderstand,  then that is my mistake and I do apologise. Thank you.  For now, thank you as well for attention to my question about “corners.”  Cheers.
