Talk that David Villa may even play in the A-League for Melbourne Heart on a guest contract (10 games) while the MLS season isn't active.

On the flip side, I'd be disappointed if this Lampard talk is true. He's still got a role to play for us and offers plenty of big game experience. Talk is that Mourinho wants him to stay but RA is pushing for a younger side. Would be hella weird seeing him in anything other than the Chelsea blue.

What's with all the Fabregas exit rumours? He had the second most appearances last season (behind Pedro) and started the 3rd most games just behind Messi and Busquets (36 starts and 10 sub), He's hardly a bit part player.

What's more you've got the likes of Xavi and Iniesta who are the wrong side of 30, there's no reason to get rid of Fabregas at all.

I often wonder if this is all just betting sites trying to get people to part with their cash by "slashing the odds" to 3/1 or whatever, I can't fathom where else these rumours are coming from.

Mark Ogden from the Telegraph reported he's available for £30 million.

Is it the new administration purging anything Rossell? That's really the only reason I can think of, though there's Neymar.

He just doesn't really fit in with their style. Better player when playing more direct and not really technically up to the job (which seems weird to say, but yeah).

Also, he's not Xavi, and I think that was what was expected of him.

Because Barcelona are run by complete mongs. He's the third best Arsenal player I've ever seen, I rate him a lot higher than Xavi and I think he's better than Iniesta.

Fabregas is on no planet better than Iniesta.

As for better than Xavi, thats subjective, but in Barcelona's system he very clearly isn't capable of playing the role Xavi can and does.

Apparently Wenger has said Cesc isn't returning.

I could see him going to City and Toure being involved in the deal somehow. I cannot see him joining United though.

Ladyman and Taylor are both on record saying City and United, respectively, don't want Fabregas. Neither do Arsenal, apparently.

Although Taylor did admit literally one tweet later that he doesn't know what LVG wants and De Telegraf reckon he's on #thelist

Baffling, Man Utd are crying out for a Fabregas type player.

By all reports, van Gaal wants two mobile, defensively minded midfielders with a decent passing range who can transition the ball quickly between defence and midfield and into our creative players in Mata, Januzaj, Kagawa etc...

That was the problem last season, imo, with our midfield. Defensively they gave us nothing and going forward they were hideously pedestrian which meant by the time we did get the ball to any of those players other teams were in their shape.

I don't think Fabregas would do badly here, but I like that van Gaal has come in with a philosophy and wants to sign players that fit into that, even if it means passing on the likes of him or other household names in the sake of building a more balanced side.

There's also the fact that I think more than a few aren't convinced that you'd be getting the Arsenal era Fabregas, and would instead get a hollow imitation, scarred by his Barcelona experiences. It's been a long time since he was truly a world class midfielder.

48 assists and 42 goals in 151 games, the man is a shadow of the player he was at Arsenal.

Yeah, of course he is, he has good stats (mostly because he starts every season well) and he's scored goals because he's playing further forward but he's not the player he was at Arsenal. He could become it again, but he's failed to hit those highs at Barcelona, its no secret.

Arsenal era Fabregas has his pick of clubs in the world, he could have gone anywhere, now? Well Liverpool, City, United, and Arsenal have turned their noses up at him and Barcelona want to shift him. If that doesn't tell you about his decline in the past 3 years, then nothing will. It's by no means the no brainer that people want to make out, and it will take a lot of work from him to recreate the highs of his career.

He's less complete than he was at Arsenal. His tackling seems to have suffered, but that might be down to him playing further forward. He's hardly regressed so much he's an "hollow imitation". Also, the midfielders he played with in his peak at Arsenal weren't the greatest, hence he stood out brilliantly. Xavi and Iniesta are two of the greatest of all time, he's not going to look as good compared to them.

To be fair, I'm not sure of the sense of Lallana being worth £25m but not Fabregas at £30m but there you go. I assume its the wages, and the journalists who have said Liverpool don't want him really mean that Liverpool can't afford him.
