Following on from the debate in the transfer rumours thread..

Should he be allowed to continue playing football? Oldham are currently in talks with him but there is a lot of pressure growing on them.

Not entirely sure he did commit rape either tbh.

Wouldn't like to see him banned by the FA. But would like clubs do stay clear of him anyway. At the very least he's not going to have the career he should have had. Which is the very smallest of victories unfortunately.

Also think non Sheffield Utd/Oldham fans signing petitions is wrong.

I don't know if he did or didn't do it, and I don't think its my place to comment on that. My own view is that it should be up to clubs themselves if they wanna take a risk with the PR war that would inevitably follow signing him, and that fans and sponsors should be allowed to say so if they want to associate him with their club.

As I said in the other thread, I do wish the people who support him would stop revealing the victim's new identity, electronically hounding them, and encouraging others who support Evans' case to do so. Its nauseating behaviour, and its even more of a pisstake that he won't publicly recognise the fact this shit is happening.

Just think, from what I've seen and read about the case, there are parts of it that do and don't make any sense. It seems he was found guilty mainly based on the exiting the hotel via a fire-door, that probably didn't help him at all.

But then why would you book a hotel in you and your friends name, if you were gonna commit rape.

This reminds me much like Michael Vick in the NFL, in that he served his time for running that dog fighting ring (it was roughly two years as well), and he's been back in the league ever since.

Why not give Ched Evans another crack on the pitch if he can still play.

He was tried before a jury of his peers and found guilty. An application for appeal also found that the conviction was safe. Having read that judgement, I strongly suspect this latest appeal will not succeed. He MUST be treated as a guilty man unless and until a court rules his conviction to be unsafe, because that is what he is. Any club should bear that in mind before taking him on, especially given that he's shown no remorse or regret, and he and his supporters have conducted themselves in a thoroughly unpalatable manner.

Rehabilitation is, of course, a key consideration. Being given a second chance is a big part of that. But rehabilitation should start with him admitting he has done wrong and issuing an unreserved apology (with the current caveat obviously being that he's protesting his innocence, so it's hardly something he can do with an appeal pending). Until he does that and asks forgiveness, he can't be rehabilitated and should not be given a second chance. He certainly shouldn't be given a second chance in football at this stage, given how high-profile it is.

My personal feeling is that miscarriages of justice happen. But I don't think this is one of them. I think a very arrogant, very stupid young man made a very big mistake. With the caveat that all rapes are exceptionally serious offences, I think this is one of the 'less serious' rapes that will pass through the justice system, but it's one that's ruined a girl's life (perhaps less as a result of what happened to her that night than the later actions of Ched Evans' supporters, who have forced her to change identity and move house several times). Evans has never shown remorse, and deserves his status as a pariah.

He's a scum bag and his fiancées family are just as bad, he openly admitted to cheating on his fiancée and they've stood by him like nothing has happened. Oldham are stupid for taking him on, they'll lose ticket sales and sponsorship, altho apparently his fiancée's family are going to cover any lose of sponsorship money, it's disgusting.

Anybody who is on the Sex offenders register should be banned from football, its about time the FA wrote up some rules of conduct to include bans on footballers with serious convictions against there name

Also that website set up by I assume the Massey' is now being investigated by the attorney general, so I wouldn't believe most of the things on it. Whoever has been advising Ched has done a terrible job. He could come out on license apologised for his actions shown remorse and had alot less aggro thrown at him

I suspect if you can't explain why McDonald got away with it when Evans you don't know enough about the case to be that opinionated on it.

Not saying that it was a correct or incorrect decision, its just that it takes literally 5 minutes to find out why McDonald wasn't convicted.

I don't think Ched Evans knows what rape is, he doesn't seem to understand what he has done. Obviously he's not going to apologise at the moment because he's in the middle of an appeal, but he's shown no remorse for what he's done. A jury found him guilty without any doubt, they know more than the rest of us.

Oldham are making a big mistake.

Judge Merfyn Hughes allowed for the alleged victim being pissed, but somehow this just isn’t on for the two blokes. How does the judge know that the men hadn’t gradually lost their inhibitions during a day of steady alcohol consumption? Why is a woman devoid of inhibition allowed to shout rape, but guys in the same condition are supposed to keep a clear head and take 200% of the responsibility for good behaviour?

That bit summed it up for me.

For me it is not about if Ched Evans did or did not rape the girl as in court he was found guilty and has served 2 and half years.

My problem is the media hype as in 2008 Luke McCormick the then Plymouth goalkeeper causing death by dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol killed two brothers and served 4 years.

In 2012 on his release he signed for Truro then by 2013 Oxford Utd and is now back at Plymouth.

I myself can not remember any public outcry for Luke McCormick to not be allowed to return to football and his case was clear cut unlike Ched Evans who has always protested his innocents.

Now I am not against Luke McCormick returning to football as he served the time he was told to do but 4 years for killing to brother where Ched Evans got 2 and half years for rape.

Are we now at a point that rape should carry a harder sentence and more of a media backlash than murder even if it was by accident or stupidity.

I agree with this 100%. He shouldn't play football again until this appeal is done and dusted.
