For example, let's say instead of having Jackson Martinez start a game (in September) in China, you make him transfer to China in January much like in real life? Whenever I update my database, I would do it this way so to make things as realistic as possible.
I realize it's not always easy and/or possible considering loans, etc. but I'd still say the overwhelming majority of transfers can be updated this way. Any reason why they aren't?

If the aim is to make the game as realistic as possible then I wouldn't say it's ridiculous at all, quite the contrary.
Again, it all depends on what one is looking for. I've always made my edits in that way to mimic real life.

I agree... I never understood why transfers weren't done on the dates they were transferred on... It's annoying and lazy... If you're going to do something - do it properly...

Future transfers work in game, you can put them in the editor and they do the job well, this aspect would be good.. what lets this down though is you can't put future loans in the game, so an example would be Sandro at Queens Park Rangers went to West Brom on loan in January, we wouldn't be able to do that on the update, so what's the point of doing future transfers, as its still unrealistic?

Besides, like you said yourself: future transfers in the editor work and are realistic. The issue is not there but in future loans which can either be included or not.
