I'm not sure the issue is whether or not the Dembas are playing well together. I think it's more that we struggle to retain possession when we don't have the 3 midfielders in the centre. So we don't really supply the Dembas enough to know whether they can play well together.

Also, thank god Senegal are awful so we won't lose the two Dembas to ACON duty this winter \o/. Although Cheick Tiote will probably be there as Ivory Coast have qualified

Pardew on Nile Ranger

I think if we can't get anything for him in January we should just terminate his contract. Sounds like a complete idiot and not worth the money or the hassle really. It's a shame because he had his promising moments when we were in the Championship.

What did everyone think of the game today?

I thought until the red card we were the better team and looked good in a 4-4-2 for a change. Without the red card I think we'd have probably gone on to win the match. Bit of a harsh red I thought, although definitely a yellow - and to be fair the whistle had already gone so Tiote didn't even need to make that tackle which made it all the more disappointing.

After half-time Sunderland seemed to step it up a bit. Pretty impressed that we limited them to so few chances on target despite it seeming like a game of attack vs. defence for the majority of the second half. Perch looks like a really good squad player now after all the stick he got in our first Premiership season (including from me).

The ref was pretty shocking all around, there was some awful decisions from him in both teams favours

I still havent seen the red card as I was at work when it was on, although I got to watch from like 20 minutes onwards. And for Perch he had a brilliant game, as usual this season which it nice to see as I have gave him stick in the past!

I love Jonas, but we always play badly and don't win when he is captain!

Jonas is shit, he's been shit all season.

Although tbf, we've been shit all season - only Demba Ba is saving us from being embroiled in a relegation fight.

I've heard rumours we're signing Moussa Sissoko and he could be the sort of player we need for a 4-3-3 tactic - certainly more so than Jonas, who only really works if he needs to keep someone like Everton's Baines/Piennar combo quiet.

I reckon Jonas has been alright. In a 4-3-3 I reckon he's fb as the runner. The Sissoko rumours have been denied, but that doesn't mean much I suppose.

Today was good in one respect - we got a point at a ground we normally fall to bits at and a great goal to savour - but pretty bad in another way beyond the fact we failed to hold on.

Colo's red card was pure stupidity (even if Suarez being Suarez made a meal of it), so losing him for 3 games is a pain in the arse to go with the Tiote one we got out of the Tyne-Wear Derby. Throw in injuries to Cabaye, Perch and Ba (the reason all 3 were subbed off before the end) and it gives us a pretty thin squad a further thinning out.

Cabaye's out until February apparently /o\

I guess the only benefit to this injury crisis is it might get us picking up some new players in January

Too early but not far off the point where we're in such a battle.

We have to get something from the next two games - anything.

For the first 70 minutes we looked decent. So what the fuck happened?

That ending was some of the most painful, depressing football I've ever seen from us.

Debuchy to score only goal in his first game for Newcastle. Headlines next day:

A Debuchy to remember

Tried for about five minutes to think of another one. Debuchy-show... Debuchy Pardew needs.

It's harder than I thought.

Souness just didn't rate him, commenting that "we'll never win anything with a team of James Milners" - an argument about signing experienced players that he presumably used to try and the likes of Craig Moore....

How was this man ever left in charge of a football team? And how did he keep getting jobs?

I don't know too much about his time on the continent before he came to Rovers, but he was very good here up until his final season when he lost the plot a bit - which, you're right, carried on at Newcastle. Splashing out on Luque, Boumsong and all that.....
