Exactly how annoying must Joey Barton be, that after having him in their country for 6 months the whole of France emigrate to Newcastle?

Seen that an insane amount of times on Facebook and Twitter. Fair play whoever came up with it first!

I wouldn't bet against Pardew having an all French XI by the end of the window

Steve Mandanda next for GK

I think they're able to field 10 French outfielders now - just a goalkeeper missing, yep.

Yup - all we need is the 2nd/3rd choice French national keeper and then we complete the set.

I still can't help but feel like we need an extra CB and/or additional striker. But at this stage there's the risk of a QPR where too many additions would destabilise the squad. Suppose it depends on what Coloccini does... do we legitimately have a case that San Lorenzo are attempting to tap him up?

Aye, in the extremely unconventional 3-3-3-1 formation.

Debuchy - Mwiba - Haidara

Sissoko - Cabaye - Amilfintano

Marveaux - HBA - Obertan

And? I think we should bring in a new rule outlawing 4-4-2 & 4-5-1/4-3-3. Will make it more interesting. Xmas tree this bitch up.

The worst was the guy I saw with a garland of onions round his neck

It feels so weird that in 10 days we've gone from the self-destruction of Reading and full on crisis to an almost unprecedented transfer spree (well, in Ashley terms) and now looking like we could be about to (touchwood) pull clear of the danger zone. Excellent stuff

I think this week goes to show the fans want new signings regardless of who they are. A backup LB and a I doubt Gouffran is any better than Marveaux/Obertan.

Sissoko was excellent in the first half tbf, but was anonymous in the second before going off injured.

Sissoko-Cabaye-Tiote could be a MONSTER midfield.

Haidara is basically a back-up LB, although whether he gets any game time is another matter. We could still use another striker but beggars can't really be choosers, especially in such a poor market for buyers.

Sissoko-Cabaye-Anita currently looks like a stronger midfield given that Tiote has been poor this season so far, but who knows - maybe this increased competition will double as a kick up the arse for him.

Aye, I'd rather see Anita ahead of Tiote with the added protection of Sissoko - although Sissoko seems more box to box than Tiote is which could leave the defence exposed. However - the first half today was excellent.

Maybe there are fans that just like new signings. But what we've done this window has all been good, and I think fans should be pleased with the moves we've made. With Ryan Taylor out and Gutierriez being in and out of the squad we haven't really had cover for Santon at LB and after losing Ba we needed a forward player who's happy playing out-wide/behind Cisse.

We've had depth problems all season so adding squad players is something we needed to do.

With regards to the match, it was great to pick up 3 points and have Sissoko perform well. But it's a bit worrying we've been poor in the second half in back-to-back games. I didn't see the game last night, but it sounds like Villa were unlucky not to get a draw.

I don't think we were poor second half - just Villa came out fighting as they had nothing to play for. How many times did they really cut us open? Once maybe twice? Villa had absolutely nothing on the line in the second half and we had everything - when it was all to play for at the start of the game we shone.

Penalty was ridiculous too, Agbonlahor stood on Debuchy's foot and bought a penalty.

I only watched the last 15 minutes - was kinda gutted I couldn't actually go - but I only remembered maybe two clear cut chances and the rest being either aimless punts, or Benteke knockdowns no Villa player got near.

Ever-present until November, got an injury, made it worse when we rushed him back at Fulham, and he was going to play against Chelsea or Spurs but then got a virus, and won't be back until the date above. Shame.

Should be back for the Southampton game though... good as that really is a must-win but given how the Saints have looked of late that's easier said than done. Obviously being in Ukraine three days before makes it harder.
