People could say the same about other players. Seen it said for Welbeck often.
Dutton
Cleverley and Wilshere in midfield was pretty sexy.
K3V0
They really did dominate the midfield, made Brazil look quite average.
Ninja
Don't take this the wrong way, but why were you staying up to good only knows o'clock to watch an England friendly?
Unless its the morning in Australia now, in which case disregard.
Poe
Welbeck wasn't the best but he was playing wide left and he's just not a winger - I'd have liked to see Oxlade-Chamberlain there instead, especially with it being a friendly. Same with Walker and Johnson at right back. Although saying that, Johnson had a good game.
Nice to see Baines get some pitch time too - he's a better option than Cole for the future, although I'd say they're around even in ability at the present.
Good performance all in all
Oh, and if Zeonflux makes one more moronic statement he will be receiving a warning. The only one I'll ever hand out in 2013 probably.
K3V0
Morning time in Australia and I got up anyway to watch the Ireland friendly.
Ninja
I know it's not going to happen, because he's captain 'n all. But I'd love to see a Carrick/Cleverley/Wilshere midfield combo tried out. That would produce some of the sexiest football I will have ever seen from an England team.
That with Rooney up the top and a pacey combination of Walcott/Welbeck/Chamberlain either side of Rooney will be fun, if nothing else.
Jamieandhisego
Holy shit, we'd have a good team.
Blaze
Clearly.

Aye, said that to my housemate tonight - tbf Gerrard offers a bit more than Carrick still and has been playing well this season. I agree with your policy on Ruud Gullit sexy football though. Carrick-Wilshere-Cleverley would definitely be interesting.
Johnson - Smalling - Cahill - Baines
Carrick - Wilshere - Cleverley
Walcott - Rooney - Ox/Young/Welbeck
NO MORE JAMES MILNER UNLESS HE'S CENTRE MIDFIELD TOO PLEASE THANKYOU

The only thing I could see that he needs to add to his game is using his right foot more, if he does that he's going to be unstoppable, I mean his passing with his left foot is 99% of the time spot on and you could tell tonight that Brazil were uncomfortable every time he started running at them. I'd go as far to say that Welbeck on the left outside of Wilshere will get a lot of chances in the future as he did tonight because Wilshere has the ability to drag defenders out of position and play little inch perfect reverse passes.

Nah he's not.
When he remembers that your supposed to put the round thing between the white things not over it he'll be an option at least, mostly because I don't think any of the players we have are traditional wingers.

Really? As i quite clearly remember praising the finish from him against Belgium and saying he should certainly be our main striker in the last Euro's if he can do that. And it was Ninja who played him down, a lot.
For me, Chamberlain or maybe Young would offer a lot more than Welbeck on the left. But then im going by how we play with someone like Podolski out wide with Walcott opposite.
jumberto
I think Welbeck has proven himself a lot more than Oxlade-Chamberlain, he's had a tough season and only the goals are missing really but he's playing wide a lot and learning a new role and the rest of his game is brilliant.

I think iirc all I said was one swallow doesn't make a summer and one chip vs Belgium doesn't make him a great finisher, which is correct.
Carroll.
Ox Rooney Walcott
Cleverley Wilshere
Should be the front 6, maybe Welbeck instead of Sturridge in the future, but atm Sturridge should be ahead.

I think we need a more defensive-minded midfielder in the central pairing. Not sure Cleverley can operate in that role if Wilsshere is bursting through from deep.

Rooney Sturridge Walcott
Cleverley Carrick Wilshere
For me.

Wilshere is wasted if you try and use him as the holding player in a midfield three, seeing as his best qualities come from him breaking forward from deep and involving himself with link up play between himself and the attackers. That's obviously going to leave a huge gap in midfield if he's breaking forward and is meant to be the holding man. At Arsenal, he's always been given a licence to roam with one of Diaby, Ramsey or Arteta sitting deeper and covering when he breaks forward. England would need to employ a similar strategy, with either Gerrad or Carrick occupying that role. Ideally, we'd have someone younger in there, but Rodwell barely plays anymore and Jones doesn't convince me as a holding midfielder.
