Whatever it is, it's probably worth it in merchandising he brings in.

But in that case, Kagawa should be on a shitload.

There's a rumour going around we want Wayne Rooney.

Chance of that is somewhere between a snowball's in hell and QPR being a Premier League club in August.

SportsDirect.com, owned by Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, claims "low-level" talks have taken place between the Magpies and Rooney's agent, although an official offer is yet to be lodged.

Rooney recently stunned his Old Trafford employers for a second time by requesting a transfer. Sir Alex Ferguson claimed the England international was fed up with being left on the bench for important matches.

Regarded as one of the best forwards in Europe, Rooney has been linked to Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, although the latter recently revealed he is not on the club's radar.

The SportsDirect.com source is quoted as saying: "Newcastle see Wayne as their ideal player. He's a strong centre-forward, would relate to the fans and would be a massive boost to the club's brand name.

"Low-level conversations have already been held between Newcastle and Rooney's agent, though the two clubs haven't spoken directly yet."

I'd actually piss myself laughing if that happened.

I'd be happy for him to go cheaper to see this happen.

Yeah I'd have no problem with him going there.

Newcastle signing Rooney would be a clear return to their old transfer strategy of signing older players with big names for more than their contributions justify.

Would be quite funny seeing them chuck out their recent history of sensible transfers and return to their old ways.

He's still a very good player, he has the same amount of goals+assists combined in the league as Mata this season.

There's no way we'd sign him - out of our wage budget, and we're not in Europe anyway so I don't think he wants to go to such one.

There was more likelihood of us signing him in 2004 when we actually had lodged two bids only for MUFC to trump the pair of them.

But what happens if they sign him then he decides a year later that he doesn't want to be there, then they are stuck with a player they spent a fortune on who is earning stupid money.

That said i doubt he'd even join Newcastle

Doesn't matter how good he is, the cost of both his transfer fee and his wages would never be justifiable at a club like Newcastle. He's not going to put Newcastle in a title race all by himself.

Tbf if Newcastle got Rooney and could get some of that form from last season back it's hardly like they wouldn't be Champions' League challengers anyway.

Rooney is one of the best players in the world - would be completely different to what we used to do.

That said, it's never going to happen.

The website had retracted the rumour, and put up this line:
"SportsDirect News wishes to express its sincere apologies to Wayne Rooney and Triple Sports and Entertainment Group for publishing the article 'Newcastle in shock Rooney bid', which was formulated and published without authority, merit and is untrue."

I'd imagine anything conclusive will only happen after the final match of the season, especially with 4th still up for grabs.

Can't see Villa going to a non-champions league club either tbh, so 4th would be an influence to that deal imo.

Yeah he'll do his own thing now, probably wont even involve football. Expect a new fashion brand from him tbh

I think it's fairly certain he'll be involved at an MLS club as an owner. Not to mention a huge charity drive in order to lock down that all important knighthood.
