I think Argentina could've won it if only Higuain and Palacio had been accurate, and Aguero wasn't more interested in kicking the shit out of Schweinstiger. But I suppose Germany have been better throughout and got the desired rewards.

Definitely feel there were more worthy winners.

Its an Adidas sponsored award, he was always going to win it. Wasn't even the best player for his country, it's made the award look a bit pointless

But Messi is no doubt paid a lot more money by Adidas and is their main man when it comes to advertising football clothing. No way they'd let anyone else win it.
Messi wasn't even the best Argentina player at the tournament. I'd say that Neuer, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Muller, Mascherano, Robben and Rodriguez were all ahead of him in my opinion.
Also, David Luiz has to win the award for most entertaining. His 'defending' was truly exceptional.

But I'd say Müller would've been my pick for the Golden Ball, with Robben and Rodriguez being second. Of course, I have to ask how Romero was up for the Golden Glove considering that other than the semifinal, he didn't do anything. Ochoa and Howard performed far better than him. But Neuer got it (to be honest, I have no beef with that since he is likely the best goalkeeper in the world). My best goalkeepers this year would've been Neuer, Navas, Howard, Ochoa and Cillisen (spelling?).
But I am just happy that Germany won. Germany is the team. They play like a team, not a bunch of individuals. And Boateng was brilliant yesterday. Just saying.
Poe
He was involved in something stupid like 80% of the runners up of the tournaments goals.
People expect too much.

This. Didn't deserve the award though
Poe
But still Messi was definitely in the top 5 players in the tournament.
.verse
Wouldn't have even had in amongst top 10 to be perfectly honest.

James Rodriguez
Muller
Neymar
Robben
Hummels
Neuer
Rojo
De Vrij
K. Navas
All had better overall tournaments, along with a few others I could have thrown in. Messi was made to look better than what he actually was because people would continuously reference to how he never scored in the World Cup before, once he did, everyone jumped on the wagon.
Poe
Messi was phenomenal in the group stages, definitely the best performer. He lacked the same spark in the later knockout rounds but had more than an average tournament. Way more.

He scored 4 goals and had a single assist. The whole 80% is such a warped and misleading "stat" to use.
Not hard to contribute to such a high percentage when your team only scored 8 goals for the entire tournament. He was lucky that the defence was exceptionally solid throughout.
Clearly our definition of "phenomenal" and "best performer" differs, he was neither for the tournament or his own team. Which I believe you agreed that Mascherano was Argentina's best player. I find it hard to be phenomenal and still not be deemed your sides best performer.
Obviously we all have a different opinion regarding how good, or sub-par Messi was, hoses for course.
Poe
He is the best in the world so I suppose it's expected.
4 goals and an assist in a World Cup is not "sub-par" by anyone other than a completely unreasonable person's estimation.
.verse
His stats aren't the tell all though. His general performances weren't that great, much like the rest of the Argentine forwards, what he did manage to do was pop up and score a couple important goals. I certainly wouldn't consider his overall World Cup display as anything more than average though. He wasn't the only highly rated player that under performed or didn't quite deliver what had been anticipated; Ronaldo and Hazard for example.
He'll be 31 at the next World Cup, which given the way he plays I don't think he'll have the impact like he does now. His game is built largely around his pace and ability to get past opponents, depending how his body holds up between now and then this may have been his greatest chance of showcasing himself at the highest peak.
Poe
A "couple important goals" in World Cup matches are pretty big things, tbf.

Baffled why people don't want to see him do well?
He's hardly a cunt on the pitch and very rarely dives.
Slashman X
Because everyone licks his hole, which apparently is bad because why the fuck should people praise the greatest player in the world
Based Jorge
As well as you know, booting balls into opposition fans as hard as he could and telling Sabella how to set out the team. He's very quietly egotistical. At least you know CR7's a cunt on the pitch.
