I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released and when the full game comes out to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMT or in existing save-games. There's a workaround for that in the first post.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2017 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German and Japanese National teams don't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, encompassing most major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all the files in this paragraph to work, however, you will need to start a new game.

To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. I'm wanting to fix Brazilian team names in a game i'm already 10 years into
mons
Can both of you follow the instructions in the second part of this post and tell me if this solves the issue?
@Currriss , it is located in the respective lnc folder.
Currriss
I see what you mean, however I did step one in the main post yesterday (deleting the files for a new game, not a ) but I couldn't get the download to open anywhere. I could open it on notepad/wordpad etc but i'm not sure how that solves anything. Even then on notepad it appears in a funny font.
I think I need to re-install the game so that the files come back, unless its possible to get them back without having to re-install it? I have my saved game on a memory stick. Then when the files return I can go into that folder and do it
mons
Re-installing the game isn't really necessary, I think, but I can't tell why you want to do so. What files do you want to come back and why do you want them to?
The file was created on notepad so I'm not sure what you mean by funny font. Can you upload a screenshot?
Currriss
I deleted the dbc, edt and inc files from the 1700 and 3 other folders, like the main post instructs in step 1. If I understand this correct the City, Club and Stadium names file was in the inc file that I have deleted. Hence why I cant access it.
mons
I'm afraid you haven't understood the installation instructions. There's a link in the main post with a video showing what you have to do, have a look at it
You should have deleted the original dbc, edt and lnc folders, and put the ones from this download instead. Please note, just merging them will NOT work. You need to delete the originals and use the ones from this download.
If you do the steps right, then the file you are referring to is contained in all the lnc folders.
Currriss
I understand to put the ones in from the download instead, but this is my download. I'm guessing this isn't even the right thing as it seems like one of those readme only files.
mons
You need to open the file that you download with Winrar...
Currriss
Which I do not have
mons
It's a 1916KB free download. What's stopping you from getting it??
Yespy
The team you called "C.D. Getxo" is actually called "Arenas Club". C.D. Getxo is the second club in the city and it's nowadays in División de Honor de Bizkaia.
mons
Hmm, interesting. Will fix it
Yespy
C.F. Portugalete
Real name: Club Portugalete, as you can see in the website and wikipedia.
Short name: Portugalete
Six letter name: Portu
Nickname: Jarrilleros
mons
Noted as well
makka
thanks for the file
redmanftw
thanks in advance mate and keep up
mons
Funny you should say that as I'm actually thinking of releasing a new version this weekend, so keep an eye out
It will not involve any major changes at all, basically the addition of lower division names and some corrections as pointed out in this thread and via PM since the release of the last version. The vast majority of changes will be save-game compatible
The installation instructions for this pack remain the same whether you are installing it for the first time or whether it's a newer version, so please follow the instructions in the main post as normal. I have no idea what changes there were, bits and bobs I suspect. You might as well wait for the upcoming update (see above) and download it and apply it then tbh.
d4ky
Is the new version due today pal? About to start a new game
mons
I'm hoping to have it available today, yes. Just need to make a quick test of it
mons
cebul
thanks for the new update
brazil club : this 3 letters
and the league portuguese : benfica = slb ? porto : FCP
is normal ?
thanks
mons
The files regarding the Brazilian club names have remained unchanged from previous versions. Please make sure that the dbc/permanent folder in all 4 sub-folders mentioned in the main post look the same as the one in the screenshot in the main post.
As for the Portuguese club name files, I have changed them slightly due to the different licensing restrictions for Portuguese club names in this version of FM. To get the right names back in your save game, just follow the simple instructions in this post.
MarcekYNWA
Whether it is compatible and fully works with today's update?

It works fine; just make sure the files are all in place
Greentrunk
Ah fantastic stuff! Thanks for the quick response!

Hoping someone can help me a little bit. I am continuing to play FM16 as my laptop is not getting on very well with 17.
I had the Germany and real name fix sorted absolutely fine and I am really far into my save, however this week I have just gone back to FM16 after trying FM17, and for some reason all of the real team & competition names etc are still ok, but Germany has stopped calling up real players with my save.
I have checked the fixture history and its just the latest international squad call up since I have gone back to this save (hadn’t played FM16 for a couple of months previous).
I have deleted the inc, edt and dbc files as usual from the 1630 folder and reapplied the FM16 fix from this website, holidayed to the next international call ups just to check but they are still not calling up real players? Any ideas how to get around this – for something so minor it really affects the game as its such a big nation.
Bit confused as I assume SI wouldn’t have released any updates for FM16 recently with FM17 coming out for it to stop working all of a sudden?
Thanks!
mons
I can't recall offhand the amount of folders contained in data/db FM16 folder (I think it was 3 - 1600, 1610 and 1630). Anyway, however many folders there are, make sure that the lnc folder only contains the 3 folders from the equivalent FM16 download. It's also important that the fake.edt file in all the edt folders is deleted.
Can you confirm if this is the case throughout your folder structure?
