r/soccer's a mixed bag. Downtimes like this where there's no football on can be a good time for football discussion. I'm not looking forward to when Ozil scores his first goal. The transfer window has been a wasteland of bullshit.

Arsenal fans seem to dominate it which seems a bit odd to me

On the subject of English youth development. Does anyone else find it extremely weird that arguably the two best youth players to come through the English system in the past 30 years have been Welsh?

I remembered you liked my brother's season reports for The Football League, which were posted on reddit, I don't know if you'd like this: http://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1lcphv/interactive_guide_to_the_champions_league_group/.

He's posted a lot on reddit lately, recently he got a job at The Press Association, he's done well for himself!

1 lesson's 100 minutes, I scheduled for 4 of those a day for 7 weekdays, in the hope that I could get this over and done with as soon as possible.

That is pretty mad.

No, it's just a lucky coincidence.

The greatest player to have come out of the Spanish cantera system in ~30 years is Argentinian.

It's the kind of thing that happens in football. It's the larger patterns that are important.

I know it's a coincidence, but the odds of it happening seem incredibly slim.

And Messi is slightly different as presumably Barcelona could see Messi was worth importing.

And I'm sure Southampton had plenty of opportunity to see that Bale was worth bringing in from Wales, and we've all heard the story about how Fergie signed Giggs to United by now.

I don't know if its just bad luck but I've never liked r/soccer, just seems to be horrible tribal crap followed with mass down-voting of opinions that go against the hivemind. Like the worst of reddit in general mixed with football rivalries.

Its well worth giving a chance.

Make an account and instantly unsubscribe from basically everything (thankfully Atheism and politics are gone from the defaults anyway) especially r/gaming, news (unless you want editorialised crap about American politics), World news etc.. with the possible exception of askreddit, bestof and funny for their occasional (and I stress occasional) good content. Then add subreddits based on your interests and viola, reddit is good.

Yeah, once you get over the impulse to view cat videos and the rest of that shit it can be extremely useful. I subscribe to r/writing and that has been a source of great help, both in tips and sharing motivation and techniques. Reddit is great if you have a particular interest and want to find a community based around it in an easy to use manner. If all you care about are games funny videos, well it has that, but it's not that informative or interesting beyond something to do while wasting time.

Fracking has been in the news a lot recently and I'll admit I've never actually bothered to learn about the process and why so many people are against it.

I've been spammed by Greenpeace over the past few weeks with texts, emails and calls from blocked numbers with them wanting to talk about fracking. I think they found out I lived in Brighton and assumed that a) I know what the fuck it is and b) that I give a shit.

Bastards.

I made a reddit account last night and only wrote 2 comments. Somehow I got given 10 karma on the Arsenal forum for writing out the obvious formation & team we're going to play with Özil after some moron put Podolski in the XI.

Guess that sums up the 'idiot' part of reddit but mainly going to use it as a source of news and to see peoples wacko theories of Breaking Bad.

Speaking of environazis, do any of you hate the low energy (non)lights that have been forced upon us like I do?

And yes, I know that question makes me sound like the Daily Mail.

I've basically kept the lights in my room on 24/7 since I switched because it takes hours before they actually provide any light after being switched on, and even then my room still looks like a gloomy dungeon. So much for "energy savings".

Buying a lamp wouldn't make any difference when you can't buy a proper light bulb for it.
