There are a lot more just in the game than I realised.

I had an idea on making an editor file when I buy myself a copy of this year's FM that will make it so ethnic football clubs around the world will produce newgens from the nations the clubs represent.

I'm doing some research at the moment on diaspora clubs and I'm quite shocked by the number of them, especially in Australia alone!

Wikipedia article on diaspora clubs around the world

I was wondering if anybody on the forum knew any ethnic teams from their region and we could compile a list.

I found this great forum post from an Australian soccer website where posters are listing different clubs in Australia and the different nations they represent and it's very interesting to see all of them.

A technique you could use to maintain the european places of each of the Scandi nations could be to keep them in their domestic cups so that if they win them they will take the european place for that nation.

This is how Lichtenstein club FC Vaduz can qualify for europe for Lichtenstein despite being in the Swiss league

Does this allow you to manage their national teams?

For now they are just a secondary nation with no national team.

How did you do this on the pre-game editor? I am trying to move Iraq to Europe too!

It's actually quite simple. Normally the option for continent is grayed out and not changeable but to access it you just need to change a boolean in the code using the resource archiver.

A much simpler way however is to just download this skin for the FM editor and it should be available without doing that.

I was wondering why I was seeing more high potential regens from Saudi Arabia and Qatar and it seems like SI juiced their youth rating. I'm not sure if it was always this high?

Thanks! i give it a try. But why is Ireland overwritten, i think Russia is nowadays useless.

There is an extinct version of Ireland (before they got independence from the UK) that exists within the editor database nations. As it doesn't have any preexisting data it is the most convenient for projects like this one as there is no hard coded impact, that can't be changed, on things like regen ethnicity, player names, etc.

The issue isn't really about the ease with which it can be done, but the licensing needed for it. How much is this guy's software used in the real world, and does he have to pay a license to use the underlying software? Things like this take a different outlook when the potential audience is as large as that of FM's.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's something which can't be done, but it's not necessarily as straight-forward as you seem to think it is.

Honestly I think you are hugely overestimating the difficulty it takes to make a map and how much it costs to use and implement software.

Turnover isn't the only metric. What are the costs? If the profit margin is narrow enough, getting "someone to implement a change” is not necessarily a priority.

And don't assume it's “a change the userbase would all want”, just because it's one you do 😉 I'm sure there are plenty who'd want it, but exaggerating helps no one 😉

If the profit margin of a game is low, with as loyal a fanbase as FM does have, then that suggests that SI are doing something wrong and need to invest in improvements that will motivate players to want to buy the latest iteration of the game.

When your sales go down it's a sign you need to invest more into improving the actual game to draw more players back.

Visually the game has been the same for over 5 years now and it is absurd how little difference there is between this year and last year.

Adding a simple interactive map to the game isn't a big ask but would be a huge upgrade. The most difficult part of mapping is acquiring data but FM already have this.

Even a simple SVG map with some dots on it showing where the teams in your division are would be an improvement and if you still are claiming that would be too much to ask from FM I would say you have honestly lost the plot.

It has been brought up as a suggestion on the official SI forums before but was explained as a licensing problem (e.g. having to pay a mapping company to use their map as a base), but I agree that it would be really useful. Especially when, for example, I'm scheduling friendly matches for my U19 team, I don't want them travelling to the other end of the country every week!

With how easy it is to build maps with publicly available data, the licensing excuse doesn't really hold water to me.

This one guy in his bedroom can recreate and exact replica of the earth complete with in game physics for a game about delivering parcels.

Apparently the annual revenue of SI is 35 million. Enough to get someone to implement a change the userbase would all want.

I agree that a map (with toggle options) of clubs/stadiums/regions would be a visually fantastic and realism-enhancing feature for FM!

I like to study the geographical distances between local clubs and other rivals myself when getting to know my club in a new save.

It's a bit crazy to me how they haven't added something like this already since the locality of a club is one of the most important things in real life but the only way to even get a sense of where you are and what teams are close to you in the game itself is by having prior knowledge or having to google other teams.

Data points exist in the game already for clubs, stadiums, cities, nations, etc

I've used the editor enough to know that within the database of FM exist thousands of geographic data points but they don't serve a function in any way beyond the basic mechanics of the game.

They practically serve no use to the player themselves.

It would be fun to know what your local rivals are, or the teams close to your area as feeder teams, or even when you are going on a long trip on an away game.

All of this could be built into FM easily because the co-ordinates of teams, stadiums and cities already exist in the database but SI haven't made any effort into visualising this aspect into FM.

For me it would add a lot to the game and offer a sense of place, that the current display of the game has no way of offering

I am currently adding Irish towns to the database with @krlenjushka's editor script and on excel there is a function to use coordinates to build a 3D map.

I know, when the game gives you your youth intake, there are factors that can influence the nationality of players such as staff nationalities or affiliation types.

What I would like to know is, is something like this possible in the editor.

If a region had a strong community of a different nationality, could anything be done in the editor to replicate this? Take somewhere like Quebec, they will generate a large number of French-Canadians (French-Canadiens). Is this where the language of a region comes into play?

I used a method recommended to me by kingrobbo to give a second nationality and it worked pretty well.

#691886 Editing Nations (Existing or Extinct)
renskay

I'm having some problems with my edited nations with regens.

I have a edited a large amount of nations so different problems are occurring and it's hard to pinpoint what exactly the cause might be.

Errors include:

  • Regens spawning with Indian surnames, ethnicity, tamil second language
  • Regens spawning with original nation city as place of birth despite city not existing in nation anymore
  • Regens spawning born in wrong city (as previous) with the second nation of a related nation to the original edited one (example Netherlands Antilles regens spawning with Dutch nationality and extinct Netherlands Antilles city as place of birth)
  • Asian names and ethnicity for regens

I'm wondering what could potentially be a way to rectify these issues

Using an alternative nation to edit, adding more regions to new nation, adding languages to new nation, adding more cities to nation, trying to remove references to edited nation from preexisting agreements, languages, etc

It's hard to know what can be fixed and what can not.

Are there any guidelines on what someone should do when editing a nation to avoid falling into any similar mistakes as these?

Currently I'm working on adding more regions to my new nations as they only have 1 region currently in each respective nation, which may be confusing the AI when designating regens, as well as adding some more languages to try to counteract the influence that the existing nation's data may be having on regens (malay, chinese or tamil for the edited nation's regens)

I have managed to restore the Capital City option for the nations panel in the editor.

Although I can't actually see if it functions in the game because it doesn't show up in the game or at least I can't find where it does.

The options exist in the code still but are just commented out.

You can see this in the

nation.xml file

and the nation ui file

What would be interesting is if it might be possible to add a population tab to the UI for nations so that when you edit a nation it doesn't have to have the previous nation's population as it's default.

Like this for example, where it shows the population as 42 thousand.

This potentially could be done as the database reference for population must exists but I do not know it.

To call the nation data in the nation ui screen the code uses the term “nati” followed by the reference code to the data within the nation (e.g. name = “Nnam”, Hashtag = “TCht”, Capital City ="Ncpi").

In order to add the population tab the reference code for population is required but I am not sure how I would access the database to know this code.

I imagine it would include something like "Pop" in reference to population but I would just be guessing.

I've been experimenting with adding nations to the game using existing or extinct nations but for some reason they keep reverting back to the original nation names in game.

Like “Raj or Sarawak”, “East Germany”, “Northern Mariana Islands”, etc.

To try to bypass this I was trying to see if there was a way to restore the once available feature of adding nations in the editor through the comp editor but so far I've not had any luck with that other than restoring the add button back to the nation's filter but when clicked, the change is not registered and the attempt to add a nation fails.

I was able to make it so I can add regions to the game and the change is registered by the editor.

Now I am wondering what other things are available in the comp editor to restore, that were available in previous editors.

For example the population of a nation or the capital city, which were both available to add to a nation previously but no longer function.

I made a custom save file with a new team overwriting an existing team and for some reason when the editor data is loaded into the game it'll revert to the original name but only when the 22.4 update is used.

This wasn't happening before when I loaded the file into the game but it is now.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

There's a team with the wrong logo in the Brazilian leagues called Doce Mel ID: 19075749

They have a logo that says Atlanta which I found odd so I googled it and their logo is different so I made a corrected version.

I'll attach the small and large photos

The other thing I noticed, is that although I had put the clubs rating up to league 2 level (3,000), some of the better players from Malta didn’t want to join. I had the club shown as playing in England but the stadium (the national one) was still in Malta.

I'll have a chat with you in DMs to offer some advice on this

Seems like a decent project - I tried to do the same with Maltese only players. Starting in the English Conference. Only Maltese nationals, or players who had Malta as a second nation allowed to be part of the club. I ran into issues though due to EU rules and the home grown issue. Not sure how to get around that?

Best of luck

You could make it so your club produces dual nationality Maltese players with English citizenship as well by moving an English city to a Maltese local region in the editor or you could try to add Malta as a nation with an exception to England or the league you want it to apply to

List of Major Changes:

  • MK Dons have been totally replaced with Dublin Dons
  • All players and staff removed from club
  • Irish staff added to team (including legends of the Irish game)
  • A collection of Irish players and Irish youth prospects added to Dublin Dons
  • Affiliate clubs added to Dublin Dons to ensure they have total domination of Irish youth prospects
  • 10 million has been give to each Irish first division team to act as compensation and funds to improve the standard of the Irish game (2nd division teams also given a lower fee)

Bonus

  • A separate file for Irish diaspora regions is available to make it so more Irish dual nationality regens are spawned in nations across the world with a large Irish diaspora

This sounds pretty cool as the potential for the fanbase must be huge? Given it'd be the whole of Ireland!

I think it would be widely supported in Ireland because in Ireland people absolutely love the premier league so an Irish team represented in the divisions would practically have the whole nation behind it every week.

There is also the international aspect of people of Irish diaspora cheering for the Irish side.
