The Dublin Dons

I came across a story from over 20 years ago about the controversy between south London team Wimbledon moving cities to north of London in Milton Keynes ,which as is well noted caused quite the out roar at the time, but what I didn't realize is that one of the proposed locations for the new team to be moved to was Dublin. This move would have created a team called the Dublin Dons, becoming the first Irish team to compete in the English leagues.

A consortium led by  Irish football legend Eamon Dunphy tried to buy the team and make the move happen but ultimately they were unsuccessful.

This struck me as an interesting idea because I've noticed the phenomenon of Irish young players being plucked from Ireland in their youth because there is no solid and competitive teams locally to give them the opportunities for growth. 

So I thought if there was a team for Irish players to go to, it would change how Irish players develop entirely as they'd be able develop at one club, rather than being scattered across the English leagues after going over to England, going to trial after trial.

Also included in this deal of moving the Dons to Dublin was an agreement to pay the League of Ireland clubs a payoff of €5 million approx. and a €127 million project of a 50,000 seater stadium, located where shopping centre Liffey Valley exists today, as well as a provision of a number of football schools of excellence around Ireland.

I decided to try to make this team in Football Manager 2022, trying to imagine how a team in Ireland would exist in the modern game.

I have replaced MK Dons and completely overwritten their history with the new team Dublin Dons.

I thought this tournament was an annual one but in my game it only takes places in 2025 which feels like an eternity to get to.

Is there a way to fix this so it's annual?

I'm having a problem with editing multiple players/clubs/etc in one selection as the editor just stops to load the change and it will take several minutes, if the change even occurs, to implement the change.

With previous FM editors I've been able to do this in seconds with no problems (on the same PC) but now I'm having difficulties.

I'm not sure if it's just a technical problem on my computer's end with something malfunctioning or it's the game itself but I'd like a fix for it somehow.

I'm trying to mod the game and found a file called “banned words” and the list is pretty funny.

The file can be found at this directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Football Manager 2022\data\game 

 In order to access and see the file you will need to extract it with the resource archiver.

I tried that but it still didn't fix it. Not sure what it could be.

Its the teams from Parana, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.

In my FM21 version I made it so Italian and German regens appear in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina and in Parana they also get Polish and Ukrainian regens as well as Italian and Germans.

Here's a map of the 3 states.

if you are using a different logo pack make sure to check the nations section in the folders to see if there is a folder of extinct nations flags. If you are using a different pack it could be taking priority over the logos for South Brazil. (I use the TCM logo pack and I had the same problem when I first started the game)

What you need to do is find the Upper Volta flag in the pack by looking through the folders or you can search with the unique ID number for Upper Volta (ID: 13116454).

For me the directory is

 C: \Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2021\graphics\Logos\TCM Logos Megapack TCM21\Megapack TCM21\graphics\Logos\Others\Nations\large\other

Then once you find it you can either delete/move the flag or you can go into the config file and remove the line of code for Upper Volta in that specific config file. 

You will also need to delete this line of code for the small logos as well.

I'm using the sortitoutsi namefix Inc at the moment and I changed all the name details on the country already. 

That could be it. 

I just looked at the screenshot again and saw the skin I was using has a communist fist in the corner :/

Guess I need to find a different one to use now 😠

New Sulista football confederation logo.

I made a new country out of Upper Volta but whenever you view the nation once the game is loaded it will still show the name Upper Volta even though it's been changed.

I didn't have this problem in FM20 so maybe there is something new in this game that changed.

The nation will show up changed at first but then when you go into the squad screen the old nation name shows up.

I've tried using a different nation and it didn't work.

You would have enjoyed it! Many Brazilians visit Ireland and love it a lot.

Hopefully having regions set in completely foreign countries doesn't mess up any of the league structure. It seems like a nice work around.

Unfortunately I don't think there is a way to set your capital city in the game. It used to be a feature but they don't give you the option to do it in the editor any more.

I will just have to set the national Stadium as the makeshift capital city.

I got a copy of FM 21 today so I'm going to start working on releasing the nation but updated for FM 21.

I'm trying to make it so more newgens of German and Italian second nationality get produced in Brazil but it doesn't seem like there are any options to do that in the editor.

But… I went into the comp editor folder and searched for “newgen” and found this line of code suggesting there may be a way somewhere in the game files to change how to alter the settings of a nations of percentage of producing a foreign nation player.

Which name do you think fits them best for the country?

I never knew that! That is really interesting, I will have to read about it further to learn more about this separatist movement. 

I will also look to include their flag into my designs for the country because before you mentioned it I didn't know it existed. For my other designs I just used the old German flag combined with the colonial emblem of Brazil which was used on previous flags.

Yes it really amazed me when I first heard about it too. 

This may or may not be the documentary you are referring to but this is a nice little documentary about a small town in the South of Brazil called Walachai where the people speak mostly German and live a humble village farming life.

You don't need to make the nation no longer extinct to make it active because to my knowledge it's not an option.

Just set the new details of the nation then it's usually required to set the continent of the nation which is greyed out by default and it requires some awkward alterations to a line of code in the program (x86) program files for football manager.
