2035 - November to March:
Three months of competitive action for Khimki in this post, along with a month's worth of friendlies due to the mid-season break. There have also been interesting developments off the pitch too.

We have continued our form from the opening four months off the campaign, with the team only suffering defeat once in ten matches. That one loss was one you'd expect, to season favourites CSKA Moscow at home to a record attendance; we beat them on their turf right at the start of the season when they were struggling but they've since got into the groove that was expected. Other than that, we went unbeaten from November to March. We had six draws, against the likes of SKA Khabarovsk, Volgar, Orenburg, Vityaz, Dynamo Bryansk and KAMAZ. The most recent three were most frustrating, especially versus my ex-club Dynamo and KAMAZ who are both below us.

We tasted victory three times, gaining convincing points versus Tosno, Baltika and Chernomorets. We should've won a few more matches, but those points have done us well as we sit in seventh position. Six points from the promotion play-offs and four points clear of tenth place. As I've said before, all I'm targeting is a top eight finish. Promotion would be incredible, but I don't think we have enough to reach that nor am I expecting to anyway. A solid top eight finish would be a good kickstart to build upon next season.

Now, to the interesting stuff. I have been linked with a few top-flight jobs throughout this period, namely Arsenal Tula and Dynamo Moscow. Both are top-flight clubs who are situated at the lower end of the Premier League table. The Arsenal rumours came during the winter break, with the media saying I was favourite for the job and the Arsenal fans wanted me too. However, they was no contact from either party and they hired a different manager. While the Dynamo mummers are on-going, with the media predicting I'm favourite for the job but their fans are yet to comment. In all honesty, I don't have any intentions to leave Khimki as I am really enjoying it and feel I have a very good base to build with. However, if the right job did come along I would think about it. If Dynamo do come in for me, I'll only take the job from next season - they're bottom of the top-flight, albeit by a point or two, at the moment so I don't fancy that.

Either way, I'm happy. Shown by me commuting myself contractually to Khimki. My original contract was due to expire in June, but the board offered me a new deal to which I duly accepted. In the contact, I've got a slight pay increase but have kept the 50% compensation clause in just incase a different team interests me. Talking of the board, they are right behind me now after a difficult start to their reign after taking over the club. My job status is at 'very secure'. I'm enjoying life at Khimki. Late edit: Just as I was typing this up, I got a crash dump. The save file is seemingly fine, but I hadn't saved since before the Chernomorets match so I'll have to play that again. They are a very average team, it'll be easy to repeat a similar result but need to make sure other results go similar. I'll replay it until the table above is, position-wise at least, the same. Annoying.

https://i.imgur.com/NFn7FIR.jpg

Further edit: Jheez. This took way too long to do, over an hour, but I have finally got it to a fair outcome after the crash dump. We won nil-two rather than nil-three, but finally other results went the right way. Meaning, the table is basically as it was before except one or two positions down the bottom. I'll take it. I remain six points from the top four and four points ahead of tenth. I wanted that to remain the same, as if I won promotion by a rogue point or whatever I would've been annoyed.

Lastly, I still signed exactly the same contract as I did previously and am still linked with Dynamo Moscow. One difference though: The last two award screenshots are now pointless, they weren't re-given this time. Hey-ho, no biggie.

2036 - April and May:
The final two months of my first full season with Russian second tier team Khimki have arrived. We have performed above expectations this season so far, as we look to cement a place inside the top eight here.

As you can see, it has been quite the two month period. To my shock, it actually ended up being a promotion play-off fight in these two months, which I never expected at all. This was all because we won our first four matches of April, beating Torpedo Moscow, Zenit-Izhevsk, Spartak Nalchik and dramatically play-off rivals Mordovia. After those games, we were incredibly sat in fourth place - the final play-off spot. However, as you can see, we bottled it in our final seven big time. An understandable loss to second place Kuban, which if we had won would've taken us madly two points off the automatic spots, and a good point versus rivals Shinnik all meant nothing in the end after four straight defeats to relegation-threatened Tyumen, promotion-chasing Saturn and eventual relegated clubs SKA Khabarovsk and Luch-Energiya.

I was bitterly disappointed at first, there was literally nothing I could do to stop those final matches from occurring. Performances dropped like nothing, we missed a penalty or two, missed sitters, got red cards, injuries. So frustrating. However, perspective was needed. We done so, so well to even get into the position of fighting for a play-off place. We had a fantastic season, considering in my first (half a) season we finished down in thirteenth. The board expectation was only a top half placement, so we've had an excellent season. In truth, I don't think we are ready for Premier League football yet anyway but this is a great building block for next season which we should be fighting for the promotion play-offs again. It says a lot I'm disappointed.

It was worth nothing after the Spartak victory my job status went up to 'untouchable', showing how good it was we were in fourth. As of right now, the job status is at 'stable'. Very bipolar board here at Khimki!

In the last post I mentioned I was linked with Dynamo Moscow. Nothing came of that, I probably wouldn't have taken it anyway as they were relegated to our division for next season. Two bits of early transfer news: Dmitry Anikin, the man on-loan from Lokomotiv Moscow, has signed permanently. He got sent off in the match versus Tyumen which killed us, but he has been superb all season and is a vital signing. A piece of bad news is, though, that star man Rustem Borisov (17 goals in 31 apps, 18yo) will not return on loan from CSKA Moscow for a third campaign as they want to give him a chance in their first-team. I tried getting him permanently, but he rejected us. Massive loss, but good luck to him.

2036 - July and August:
My second full season with Russian club Khimki begins in this post. We had a terrific season last campaign, almost completely outdoing our pre-season predictions by reaching the promotion play-offs but we unfortunately just fell short. With this new season, I'm hoping we can put in a more season-long fight for the play-offs.

Well, it has been a simply marvellous start to 2036–37. Only ten matches played, but we sit remarkably in second place after five wins, four draws and just one defeat. Only recently-relegated Moscow giants Dynamo Moscow, who join fellow big club and city rivals CSKA Moscow (who didn't win promotion last season) in the second tier of Russian football, are above us at this point. Quite the achievement. It has taken me by surprise a little, considering we lost some key players in the summer transfer window. However, the signings have been very good and the team is performing superbly.

After an undefeated pre-season, we got things underway with an away win versus Tyumen thanks to goals from new signings Nikolay Kulikov, who replaces lost star loanee Rustem Borisov, and Dmitry Anikin, a former loanee who has made his stay permanent. We followed that with a goalless draw at home to Torpedo Moscow, who the media actually strongly linked me with after they parted company with Vladimir Osipov. Then, we went on a run of three straight victories by beating Tosno, Saturn and Dynamo Saint Petersburg. Kulikov scored two in the latter two matches, including an absolutely stunning 88th-minute winner versus Saturn which can be seen below. That Dynamo SPb match was the first of September, and it was only one of two wins in the year's ninth month as we went five winless in two competitions.

However, as you can see from the league position, we only lost once in four leagues games and drew the other three. The loss came to other relegated side Sibir, but the draws came against promotion-chasing rival Shinnik, underperforming Spartak Nalchik and most impressively away to Dynamo Moscow. We battled excellently at the Central Dynamo Stadium (Off Topic: Which is a stadium that hasn't existed since 2011 when it was demolished, yet is still in the game? Hmm.) to secure a brilliant point to the league's best side after ten matches. Proud of my players. Our last two matches were in the cup versus Tyumen and in the league versus another top of the table rival in Mordovia. A rotated XI lost in the cup, but our first-team got a terrific win at home to Mordovia to move us into second place.

As said, that leaves us in 2nd. Very happy with that, but still a long way to go. It is rather tight at this point, with five points separating first and eighth. We had a tricky run of fixtures to end September but came off them well, and if we want to continue this fine form we must show up against the 'lesser' teams in the upcoming games as we don't face a current top seven side for eight matches. A real chance to, hopefully, open a gap further away from fifth to eighth at least. Let's see.

The usual stuff can be viewed underneath this: Any awards given out, the squad statistics, confirmation of the Torpedo Moscow media link and my current job status screen which is at 'very secure'.

One last thing: Transfers! It was a busy window, with key in-and-outgoings. Eleven players arrived, seven departed. As previously mentioned, Kulikov replaces goal machine Borisov who didn't join on loan for a third season from CSKA Moscow as they claimed to have wanted to give him a chance in the first-team. I had a permanent offer accepted, but he himself rejected us. He was subsequently sold to top-flight club Krasnodar but was placed in their reserve squad. I attempted a loan, but Krasnodar wanted 100% of his wages paid by us which was impossible. Annoyingly, days later they loaned him out to fellow second tier club Mordovia for nothing as part of their affiliate link - lucky Mordovia!

Elsewhere: Temur Maisuradze become my first-choice LB, signing from relegated Luch-Energiya to replace Alexandr Smertin who joined Kuban. Ruslan Feokistov and Timofey Semenov added depth to the central midfielder position. Mikhail Troshev (free from Gomel) replaced Anzor Morozov (joined Orenburg on loan) as back-up 'keeper. Victor Podberezkin (CB), Nikolay Lebedev (FW, second spell), Vladimir Denisov (FW) and Artur Kuzmin (RW) all joined on loan to, again, improve squad depth. Other signings were Anikin (already mentioned) and Alexandr Yevtushenko (back-up RB).

Of those that haven't been mentioned, five others left. Notable two were Alexandr Nazarov, who was signed on a free a year ago, left for 19.25k to promoted Chita and Sergey Yelsukov joined Gomel on a temporary basis.

Absolutely loving this job right now. Hopefully the form can continue. Thanks for reading!

2036 - September and October:
We take on all that September and October 2036 had to offer with Khimki, coming into it in a terrific second place behind leaders Dynamo Moscow. It's close though, with a few points either way potentially changing everything.

It hasn't been *that* great a two months for us, winning only three but still managing to stay close to first place. I say *that* great because, in truth, we're still having a great campaign thus far. We go into the final month's action of the year in sixth place, but sit just three points off of the leaders Sibir. It is so tight in the Football National League, only one win separates top to sixth. As I said last time out, we had more favourable fixtures during this spell however there has been no easy game. Except for the first match of September, that is, as we eased past Armavir 0–3 away.

Next came a defeat to Fakel Voronezh and a disappointing draw away to Vityaz. We managed win number seven of the season on 29 September versus Baltika thanks to Liridon Selmani and Nikolay Kulikov grabbing goals. Frustration soon returned in our next two fixtures versus strugglers Sokol and Chita. We got battered by Sokol 4–1 at the Lokomotiv Stadium in Saratov, prior to only gaining a point away to second bottom Chita. Then came a meeting with my former club, Dynamo Bryansk. A side that was bottom of the table in the last update have since shot up the table into thirteenth. I thought we were nailed on to lose this, but thankfully Kulikov, against his old club too, popped up with a 63rd-minute winner. The last fixture to share is a defeat to Volgar, a side that subsequently moved above us in the rankings.

So, we're sixth but not far off the promotion places at all. One match from the halfway point and one month from the winter break. Approaching crunch time! Three pieces of news: Firstly, the match versus Fakel Voronezh was my 600th game in management! Secondly, Yury Voropaev jumped ship at the end of the transfer window to join promotion rivals Mordovia, we have missed him in truth. Thirdly, after the Baltika match my job status was at 'untouchable' as we sat second.

2036 to 2037 - November to March:
Two month's of action either side of the winter break. We dropped out the top five in the last post with Khimki, we aimed to get back into it in this one.

Table:
https://i.imgur.com/yzK1qHY.png

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/Db5JSjx.png

Brick wall - hit! Eleven matches, just two victories with seven defeats and two draws. Any promotion play-off hopes we harboured are over. Atrocious form, went scoreless in five of the eleven competitive fixtures. In slight fairness, it has been a difficult run of opponents. A visit to CSKA Moscow came first, lost that before actually winning back-to-back. A solo Nikolay Agafonov strike gave us the win over Tyumen, while a Viorel Olaru hat-trick (his third in his Khimki career) got the points versus Tosno. He scored again next time out versus Torpedo Moscow, but we suffered defeat just like in the remaining two games prior to the winter break versus Saturn and Dynamo Saint Petersburg. Two wins in three friendlies during the break didn't do much to improve confidence.

On our return to league action, we lost the first three of March 2037. Awful performances against Shinnik, Sibir and Spartak Nalchik. The poorness continued into the two most recent fixtures, but at least we got improved results in draws versus surprise strugglers Dynamo Moscow and Armavir. Good point at home to Dynamo, but not good to relegation threatened Armavir. That leaves us down in eleventh position, only five points clear of the drop zone. Now eleven points off the play-offs, game over in that respect. Very disappointing run of results.

Off the pitch, there have been even more developments regarding my position as Khimki manager. One media link in these months, but also something even bigger. The one media link was with Dynamo Moscow, just like last season but again no club contact. I received two job interviews for top-flight teams despite not applying or being linked by said media. The two clubs were Kuban and Orenburg, two teams at the bottom of the Premier League table and both looking slightly doomed. Kuban came in first, I wasn't sure what to do. I weighed it up for a while, before attending the interview. I thought, they are a step up from Khimki and even if they get relegated to our league then they'd still be a step up. As I said, I took the interview but it didn't fill me with confidence. I probably would've rejected them, but they overlooked me anyway due to a wage budget disagreement during the interview and they also employ a Director of Football which is a big no-no for me. I rejected the Orenburg interview, not a step up in my opinion.

Both those job advances came during the winter break. I do remain Khimki manager though, which I am absolutely happy with. As previously mentioned, I would considering leaving Khimki but unless it's via a step up then I won't be leaving on my own accord. I say on my own accord, as if the form continues then I may be sacked very soon. My job status has gone from 'very secure' to 'secure' to now 'stable'. Very much hoping it improves, I'm liking this club.

2037 - April and May:
The final two months of the 2036–37 season with Russian side Khimki. A truly horrendous few matches proceeded, we fought to regain a top ten place at the very least to meet expectations.

Fixtures:
https://i.imgur.com/KWfcpCY.png

Table:
https://i.imgur.com/mnG2eo9.png

To my happiness, we managed to save our season. Defeat was only tasted once in nine fixtures, that was a four-goal battering at the hands of Fakel Voronezh. Other that that, we had regained our mojo and played pretty well. Prior to the Fakel debacle, we visited eventual fourth place side Mordovia and got a good point. After Fakel, we got our first competitive win of 2037 by scraping past Vityaz thanks to a goal from Romanian striker Viorel Olaru. A draw to Baltika followed, before three wins in four. Olaru scored twice to help beat Sokol, while right-back Oleg Volkov popped up with a surprise brace either side of an own-goal to give me a win over ex-club Dynamo Bryansk.

Then came a very credible draw away to Volgar, the then league leaders and future promoted club. We secured a 3–3 draw, clawing it back from 3–1 via a Liridon Selmani double. Superb result. After that, we played the bottom club and already relegated Chita and comfortably won 2–0 without any issues. We drew our last fixture 1–1 with CSKA Moscow, another pretty good point. That result was bad for CSKA, who missed out on the promotion play-offs because of it and due to Sibir winning hours later; meaning CSKA now face a third (!) consecutive season in Russia's second tier. Quite remarkable. Dynamo Moscow, another giant, also missed out and therefore fail to get back to the Premier League at the first time of asking. Shinnik and Volgar ended up getting promoted, while Sibir and Mordovia failed in the play-offs.

As always seems to be the case nowadays, I have more news to share regarding a potential next career move. There have been a couple of media links but also some job interviews. The first was a link with Premier League side Terek (nowadays known as Akhmat), I told the press I was slightly interested. Their fans then came out and said I was their leading candidate. Nothing occurred, and a month later the media linked me with the Kuban job - just like in the last winter break. I stayed quiet in my response. A week later, Kuban offered me a job interview without applying - just like last time. The interview went better this time around, but they eventually overlooked me for a second time - weird. I didn't apply either time, they came to me both times yet didn't want me on either occasion. Oddballs. I wasn't too bothered, I was actually more interested in the Akhmat job as they survived relegation - Kuban hadn't.

Akhmat offered me a job interview seven days later. Seeing as they avoided the drop, I definitely wanted this job. Not because I want to leave Khimki, but it would be a certain step-up. At this point, the Khimki board and fans pleaded me to stay - I rejected talks with the club incase Akhmat wanted me - I still have a year left on my contract, so was in no rush to sign on with Khimki. Akhmat fans then considered me the main candidate, but sadly the board decided against hiring me. Shame, but as I've always stated, I am more than happy with Khimki.

Bucheon – Where Are They Now? – Ten Years Later:
Part four of WATN? My fourth club, South Korean side Bucheon, are today's focus.

My Record:
2026 - 1/11 (K League Challenge) | PLD40 | W24 | D8 | L8 | GF70 | GA40 | GD+30 | PTS80
2027 - 12/12 (K League Classic) | PLD38 | W3 | D4 | L31 | GF23 | GA77 | GD-54 | PTS13
Joined: June 2026 | Sacked: July 2027
Trophies: 1 (K League Challenge X1)

Weird spell in charge of Bucheon. I never spent a full season with the club. I joined in June 2026, midway through the 2026 K League Challenge (tier two) season. They were chasing promotion when I joined, that continued into my reign and I actually got them one better by winning the league title and promotion to the K League Classic. It was in that league that it all went to shit. I got sacked halfway into the season, but we were already rooted to the bottom of the top-flight table. They went onto finish bottom and returned to the KL Challenge. Promotion definitely came too soon. What has happened since, though?

Their Record Since:
2028 - 5/11 | PLD40 | W19 | D12 | L9 | GF56 | GA30 | GD+26 | PTS69
2029 - 2/11 | PLD40 | W23 | D9 | L8 | GF69 | GA27 | GD+42 | PTS78
2030 - 5/11 | PLD40 | W19 | D13 | L8 | GF63 | GA32 | GD+31 | PTS70
2031 - 3/11 | PLD40 | W22 | D11 | L7 | GF65 | GA30 | GD+35 | PTS77
2032 - 3/11 | PLD40 | W22 | D8 | L10 | GF69 | GA28 | GD+41 | PTS74
2033 - 6/11 | PLD40 | W18 | D13 | L9 | GF61 | GA33 | GD+28 | PTS67
2034 - 8/11 | PLD40 | W15 | D9 | L16 | GF52 | GA44 | GD+8 | PTS54
2035 - 4/11 | PLD40 | W19 | D10 | L11 | GF64 | GA39 | GD+25 | PTS67
2036 - 7/11 | PLD40 | W18 | D7 | L15 | GF64 | GA36 | GD+28 | PTS61
Period: January 2028 to December 2036
Trophies: 0 ( – )

They haven't been promoted since, remaining in K League Challenge between 2028 and 2036. Their highest position finish was second in 2029, reaching the second stage of the play-offs before losing to Gyeongnam. In 2031 and 2032 their got into the promotion play-offs again, going closest in 2032 but lost to Incheon United in the two-legged final play-off round. They next reached the play-offs in 2035 after placing fourth, losing to Goyang Zaicro in the penultimate round. So, they've gone close but not quite managed it yet. Their lowest finish was in 2034, ending the season down in eighth place. In the current campaign, they sit third after nineteen fixtures.

Around the league. K League Challenge: Sangju and Ansan remain the basement boys, finishing as the bottom teams in every year since. Gyeongnam have been up and down, winning the second tier title three times since my departure. Goyang and Seongnam have also been up a few times. K League Classic: Suwon Samsung Bluewings and Seoul won the top tier during my two years in South Korea, they have gone onto win it two more times each. Otherwise, it has been Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors who have been dominating as you'd expect, winning the league for the last four campaigns. Seoul narrowly lead the way as it stands now. Overall, not much has changed in South Korea.

We have had a dreadful start to the 2037/38 campaign, finding ourselves down in 14th place after losing five of the ten league fixtures so far; as well as getting dumped out the cup. Despite this dire start, the board and fans haven't got on my back once which is pleasantly surprising. The season got going with back-to-back defeats to Orenburg and Tosno, both by a score of three goals to zero. Then came a draw versus Fakel Voronezh which was decent, but that work was undone immediately with two more losses consecutively against Luch-Energiya and Sibir. An awful first five results. Thankfully, the last five have improved.

We got two much needed emphatic victories versus Chernomorets and Avangard on 8 and 15 August 2037. Viorel Olaru scored yet another hat-trick, his third since joining the club two years ago, to secure us the points before fellow Romanian Alin Fotescu and new striker signing Andi Sutrisno scored goals to help us beat Avangard. Two well deserved wins, but they were against newly-promoted teams so I wasn't getting too happy. We lost next time out to Armavir, disappointingly, but regained form in the next two league fixtures against big boys Kuban and CSKA Moscow. A 1–1 away to Kuban was much appreciated prior to gaining a stunning win at home to CSKA Moscow thanks to ANOTHER Olaru hat-trick! A cup exit came between those matches versus SKA Khabarovsk, but I rested my entire line-up and played a few kids so it was expected.

Form is gradually improving, especially after that win vs. CSKA. However, we still find ourselves just one point off the drop zone at this early stage. It is still early, we are only five points off 7th so it's all to play for. The transfer window came and went at this part of the season, it was a busy window as usual. Eight players joined the club: Denis Permyakov was the first in, a free from Ufa who immediately joined Avangard on loan. Gennady Semakin (CM) and Alexandr Konstantinov (GK) were also free agents, coming from Ufa and Akhmat respectively. All three as squad depth signings.

The biggest signing was Ukrainian centre-back Bogdan Grynchenko, a 975k man from Olimpik Donetsk. Hefty price for Khimki, but felt we needed a young, talented centre-back. Maxim Panchenko (CB), Andi Sutrisno (FW) and Dmitry Kolesnikov (RM - loan) also joined. Meanwhile, left-back Alexandr Smertin has rejoined on loan from Kuban - he was sold to them twelve months ago for 600k. Only two major outgoings: Oleg Stepanov joined Torpedo Moscow permanently after two loan spells. Georgian LB Temur Maisuradze left just one year after joining to sign for Mordovia for 100k, I wasn't impressed with him despite spending 130k to sign him.

One milestone in these few months. The league meeting with Chernomorets was my 100th match in charge of Khimki. Good to reach that tally, after not getting to it in my last five jobs. Other stuff: Squad statistics and the accolades can be viewed below.

We aim to improve the form left from July and August with Khimki.

Form didn't improve. Just two wins and two goals in eight fixtures, both coming versus lowly opposition in KAMAZ and Sokol. Of the other six matches, three were drawn while three were lost. The draws were all goalless, versus Tyumen, Torpedo Moscow and Spartak Nalchik. The losses were by two goals or more, versus Mordovia, Saturn and Dynamo Moscow. A dreadful run of form which put us in the relegation zone in 16th, which has actually led to...

https://i.imgur.com/frqTC55.png

...my sacking. Very disappointing! Quite a sudden departure after two and a half seasons of goodness, I am sacked after half a season's badness. This season's form had been truly awful no doubting, but I felt I deserved more time. Not even four months previous I was getting job interviews from the top division, now I'm sacked by a second division club. How times change. I was sacked after a board meeting, which I begged to stay but they sacked me instantly without offering a points goal or anything.

2037 - The Job Search:
An unexpected job search has taken place. I looked for an instant return to management. I didn't have any thoughts where I wanted to go, but would just see what came up. I can say now, it was a very short search.

There was a few different job openings I was interested in, namely CFR Cluj of Romania and a few top-flight Russian teams. However, the Russian top-flight teams didn't give me an interview nor did Cluj. Then up popped the Mordovia job, a club in basically the same position as Khimki. I was interested in staying in Russia's second tier, I like the set-up of the league. I duly applied and received a job interview soon after, I took it and it went well on my end. As it did on theirs as they offered me the job. I accepted.

https://i.imgur.com/ppbW0ZX.png

I am the new manager of Mordovia! My third club job in a row with a Russian second tier team. I am happy with this. Just nineteen days after departing Khimki, I join their positional rivals Mordovia. My new team sit below objectives down in 10th, above my former employers on goal difference. It's a side step in terms of current form, but overall I'd say Mordovia are a bigger club. They're a Premier League team in the First Division, rather than Khimki who are just the latter. Mordovia have been a top-flight team in 13 of the 22 seasons in this save, including 8 of the last 12. It's my job to get them back there eventually. The job process and Mordovia's current situation can be seen below. Interestingly, they're still in the cup at the quarter-final stage.

We went winless in my first two fixtures, drawing with Tyumen on debut and then losing to Orenburg. I managed to get my first win in my new job before the winter break though, thanks to goals from winger Evgeny Ivanov I and central attacking midfielder Anatoly Orekhov versus KAMAZ. During the aforementioned winter break, we played three friendlies and gave a good account of ourselves in all three. First, we expectedly beat Fakel Axay in game one before drawing with Ukrainian Premier League outfit Zorya Luhansk and losing to top-flight Russian club Ural. The latter two we may have not won, but we played well; which was good preparation for the then upcoming tough Russian Cup QF tie against Rostov.

We faced Rostov in the cup on 4 March 2038, and unfortunately lost by two goals at home. Rostov scored very early on and very late on, unlucky to lose in truth. We resumed league action a week later by beating Torpedo Moscow 3–1 after a clinical hat-trick from top goalscorer Vasily Sidorov. He has 20 goals in 32 games as I type this, but his form has been dreadful. Typical that that happens when I join, beforehand he was banging the goals in; including a hat-trick versus me with Khimki. Now he has gone dire, what a coincidence. We've followed that win up with three successive draws, disappointingly to Saturn, Sokol and most recently Spartak Nalchik. This leaves the club in 9th place, ten league matches left to play. Highest we can expect is probably 7th, that's what I'll be aiming for. Only seven points clear of the drop zone, so need a few more wins.

Season expectations, awards and squad statistics can be seen below.

The mid-season transfer window was welcome. I signed nine players, while letting go three. Standout signings were: Georgy Maltsev (325k, Khimki), Evgeny Sergienko (190k, CSKA Moscow) and Evgeny Polyatskin (500k, Orenburg). Maltsev from my old club, first-choice RW. Sergienko, top looking CB. Polyatskin, much needed CM. Dean Kostadinovic (LB), Leonardo Flores (FW), Dmitry Kozlov (CM), Pavel Dementjev (FW - loan) and Maxim Postnikov (GK - loan) were signed as back-up. While Valery Pavlov is a promising young RB, signed for the near future - well, I had planned to use him instantly but he went and got injured for months... Only notable out was Madani Doumba, he joined Hungarian side Újpest; decent CB but took up a foreigner spot so sold him.

In short, no. Not that I was expecting too. We had a good end to the season though, losing just twice in ten matches while winning six of those! April 2038 began with three straight victories against SKA Khabarovsk, Dynamo Moscow and my former team Khimki. The SKA and Khimki wins were expected, but the Dynamo victory was stunning. Georgy Maltsev with the winner there, he also scored in the previous game versus SKA; good impact from the man I brought along from Khimki. Talking of Khimki, two goals from Dmitry Buznikin were enough to beat them.

Next came Tosno, who we were beating until the 78th-minute when they scored three goals in seven minutes to secure victory. Disappointing to lose it like that, but they're a good side. We responded with a win over eventual play-off place holders Fakel Voronezh but lost to Luch-Energiya the match after. We faced the bottom two next and won both games, versus Chernomorets (19th) and Avangard (20th) respectively, by an aggregate score of 5–0. In the penultimate encounter of 2037–38, we faced the superb runaway champions Sibir at home and managed to secure a very nice 2–2 draw; in could've been much better though as we had led 2–0! Threw it away just like versus Tosno, but it's a good sign to see us performing against the top teams. Our campaign ended with a draw against Armavir to secure a good 8th place finish.

The board are very pleased, putting my job status at 'very secure'. This team should be fighting for the promotion play-offs, but considering I joined mid-season with them in 10th and just five points clear of the relegation zone and to end seventeen points clear of it, I'm happy with how it went. Hopefully we can at least fight for the play-offs next campaign.

Away from us. CSKA Moscow finally regained top-flight football, finishing 2nd to return to the Russian Premier League after three seasons in the second tier. Dynamo Moscow remain though, the next campaign will be their third at this level. Shinnik and Volgar have been automatically relegated from the top division, while Orenburg and Fakel will battle for a spot in that league against Tom and Akhmat.

South China – Where Are They Now? – Ten Years Later:
A fifth WATN? This time, I revisit South China; my second Hong Kong job between 2027 and 2028. Another short spell, you'll notice.

My Record:
2027/28 - 5/11 | PLD20 | W8 | D4 | L8 | GF38 | GA33 | GD+5 | PTS28
Joined: July 2027 | Resigned: May 2028
Trophies: 3 (FA Cup X1, League Cup X1, Community Cup X1)

Just one season back in Hong Kong. It was an odd spell with South China, who I took over as champions from the previous campaign. By my own account, it was a very poor season in charge in the league. We finished 5th, eight points behind 2nd and eight clear of 9th. Away from the league, it actually went well in the other competitions - I managed to win three trophies! The FA Cup, League Cup and Community Cup. Those are actually, as of May 2038, my last three trophies in the save - tougher, more challenging jobs in better leagues have since followed. In the AFC Champions League, we done well too by reaching the final qualifying round; including knocking out Japanese giants Sanfrecce Hiroshima which is a big achievement for a HK club. The league form let us down, so I subsequently resigned in May 2028 - I always planned for it to be a short spell anyway.

Their Record Since:
2028/29 - 1/11 | PLD20 | W11 | D6 | L3 | GF28 | GA14 | GD+14 | PTS39
2029/30 - 2/11 | PLD20 | W10 | D5 | L5 | GF29 | GA21 | GD+8 | PTS35
2030/31 - 4/11 | PLD20 | W8 | D7 | L5 | GF27 | GA20 | GD+7 | PTS31
2031/32 - 4/11 | PLD20 | W10 | D3 | L7 | GF25 | GA20 | GD+5 | PTS33
2032/33 - 2/11 | PLD20 | W10 | D6 | L4 | GF29 | GA16 | GD+13 | PTS36
2033/34 - 6/11 | PLD20 | W6 | D5 | L9 | GF19 | GA24 | GD-5 | PTS23
2034/35 - 4/11 | PLD20 | W9 | D6 | L5 | GF24 | GA22 | GD+2 | PTS33
2035/36 - 3/11 | PLD20 | W9 | D5 | L6 | GF24 | GA16 | GD+8 | PTS32
2036/37 - 8/11 | PLD20 | W5 | D9 | L6 | GF21 | GA19 | GD+2 | PTS24
2037/38 - 5/11 | PLD20 | W8 | D4 | L8 | GF38 | GA33 | GD+5 | PTS28
Period: May 2028 to May 2038
Trophies: 2 (Premier League X1, Senior Challenge Shield X1)

Since I left. South China have only won the league title once and only gained one other trophy - the Senior Challenge Shield in 2032. That one league title did come in the very next season after my departure, while their highest other position was 2nd in 2030 and 2033. They've ended seasons as low as 6th (2034) and 8th (! - 2037). Similarly to Eastern, they've not been that good since. Hopefully they can improve soon.

As for around the leagues, I touched on that in the Eastern WATN? post which is only two seasons out of date. In those two seasons since, Kitchee have continued to dominate by taking their league title tally up from eight to ten. Sun Hei have become the bridesmaid of the Hong Kong Premier League, coming second in the last three seasons. My former clubs Eastern and South China have finished third once each in those three years. No real surprises other than that.

2038 - July and August:
2038–39, my first full campaign (hopefully) with Mordovia, has begun! The board, fans and myself are expecting a push for the top four, mainly the promotion play-offs, this season.

Fixtures:
https://i.imgur.com/EIzG4Hl.png

Table:
https://i.imgur.com/AKSzRua.png

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/2h4nwMs.png

What a start! Unbelievable beginning to the new season. After ten league fixtures, we sit top of the tree! Undefeated, won seven of our ten games and not conceded in our last nine First Division fixtures. We even progressed in the Russian Cup with a weakened line-up. Superb! After a decent pre-season, we faced Kuban in game one and achieved a 1–1 draw; a fairly late goal from Dmitry Buznikin got us an important point vs. a rival. Then came the start of a stunning six match winning streak without conceding.

Shinnik and Tosno were dispatched 0–1 and 2–0 respectively, new signing Alysson grabbing all three goals. Two big wins versus two more clubs that should be rivalling us. We faced, on paper anyway, easier opponents in Armavir, Tyumen, Alania (nowadays know as Spartak Vladikavkaz) and Vityaz next. We won them all to complete the six-match streak. The goals were spread around too, with most notably Vasily Sidorov getting four in the last three of those games. Then came the only disappointing result of these two months, a goalless draw with lowly SKA Khabarovsk.

We hit back sensationally though by beating Khimki, my old club, 4–0 at the Mordovia Arena. Alysson, who had gone five without scoring, scored a magnificent hat-trick; the treble sealing goal (see below) was beautiful. After that we had a Russian Cup tie against Sokol, a team relegated from the First Division last season. We beat them, as previously mentioned with a back-up XI, thanks to a goal from new loan signing Evgeny Kozlov. The reason for the resting of first eleven players was due to a big league match days later, versus recently relegated Tom. We visited the Tomsk-based side and secured a good 0–0 tie. Strong opponent, kept up our unbeaten and clean sheet streaks.

So, after ten First Division fixtures, we are sat in 1st! Three points clear of Dynamo Moscow. We are unbeaten and haven't conceded in a while. Incredible beginnings! 4th place Orenburg are next, could be a big result there one way or the either. Very pleased with our start, hopefully it can continue! It has broke a few club records, which can be viewed below; as well as the squad statistics and awards.

Board confidence (very secure) and transfer history is below too. As always I've been busy in the window, signing eleven new faces. I signed two wing-backs, as I've been using a wing-back formation for the first time, seriously at least, in the save as well as the tried and trusted 4-2-3-1. Those were: Alexandr Lis (25k, Minsk) and Matej Udarevic (Free, Osijek). Both foreign which is a little bit of an issue, as we're only allowed five overall with only three starting but we've made it work when needed. Alysson was a free signing from Paraná, he has been superb with six goals in ten. Kirill Zhukov (Free, Tom) and Vitaly Volkov (Free, Lokomotiv Moscow) were signed as back-up 'keepers after the outgoings left only Vladimir Mironov as a first-team GK.

Zaur Kornev was signed from Khimki, a player I brought through from the youth academy during my tenure with Khimki. His attributes are average, he was cheap at 28k but he is a player I trust 110%. I'll put his profile below and you'll see why I like him, his average ratings at Khimki under me were exceptional. He has come straight into my line-up at Mordovia and done just as well, if not better. We lost first choice Guatemalan centre-back Omar Reyes to Fakel Voronezh via his release clause so needed a new CB, that new man was Argentine defender Lautaro Seimandi on a free from Villa Dálmine; bargain, has played very well. Elsewhere, we signed Roman Kiselev (Free, Ufa) for the youth team and Vadim Mamaev (CB, Sibir), Dale MacLennan (CB, Krylia Sovetov) and Evgeny Kozlov (CM, Krasnodar) on loan for squad depth.

As for outs, we actually lost some key men. Talented midfielder Josif Mrdjan joined CSKA Moscow for 800k while Temur Maisuradze joined Dinamo Minsk on loan. Maisuradze is a funny one. I signed him for Khimki before selling him to Mordovia due to his wanting a big club moaning, now I'm with Mordovia he has began moaning again for a big club so has left, albeit on loan, again. Me and him just don't get on, it seems - shame as he's a very good player too. Squad players Igor Arkhipov (CM) and Denis Gordeochuk (LW) left on loan to Armavir and Botev Plovdiv respectively.

2038 - September and October:
After a stunning start to the season, we went into September and October 2038 full of confidence.

Table:
https://i.imgur.com/KtoRBXB.png

https://i.imgur.com/ZkodM7h.png

Not quite the same type of month, but it was another successful month in our season. After not conceding in the last ten fixtures previously, we have let in six goals in these two months and have also lost the undefeated streak by losing three times. That was to be expected, though. September began with a big match against promotion rivals Orenburg, we won that thanks to a dramatic late winner from Brazilian forward Alysson. That was 1–0, the same scoreline as the next match and victory against Yenisey; Dmitry Buznikin got the goal. 1–0 was to become a familiar feeling, with our next four victories coming with that score.

After Yenisey, we lost back-to-back matches in interesting fashion. We lost to Saturn which was disappointing, but we ended that fixture with nine men; the first of two reds coming in the first half. So, a loss wasn't surprising. The Russian Cup returned next time out for a fifth round tie with top-flight Sibir. Like in round four vs. Sokol, I rested my entire first eleven. However, the replacements did the club and me proud by battling hard with Sibir, sending it all the way to penalties before losing; we actually deserved to win, we dominated for the whole of normal time.

After those two losses, we resumed league action with three straight victories by that scoreline of one goal to zero. Spartak Nalchik, Baltika and Neftekhimik were our opponents, we absolutely did not play well in these matches; nor the three after them. Performances have dropped significantly recently, but we still managed to grind out these wins over bottom of the table opponents; a good sign. Then came our toughest fixture of the two months, a match-up with fellow promotion chasers Dynamo Moscow. We took the lead with thirteen minutes left via Alysson but couldn't hold on after conceding. Delighted with that result, away to a rival.

The last two fixtures of October were against Volgar and Luch-Energiya. We beat Volgar thanks to Vasily Sidorov, but lost to Luch; which was somewhat expected due to the 8,579 km (5,330 miles!) journey east and our recent lacking performances. All of that leaves us top of the table, which is fantastic. Nineteen fixtures down, nineteen left to play. We lead Kuban by five points, Dynamo Moscow by six and are in the top four by seven. We are looking good, but will need to improve our recent form if we want it to carry on. That cause not helped by the fact our first choice goalkeeper, Vladimir Mironov, is out for 6-8 weeks!

2038 to 2039 - November to March:
From 2038 to 2039. I enter the twenty-third year of this save! Currently with Russian side Mordovia, we came into it sitting pretty top of the Russian First Division as we aim for promotion. It isn't expected, but if we failed to make the play-offs, at least, after leading at the midway point it would be very disappointing.

Fixtures:
https://i.imgur.com/5t19InM.png

Table:
https://i.imgur.com/gceBuo9.png

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/hvrb4Jc.png

We are no longer top of the table, Tom have surpassed us and lead by a single point. We lost our five point lead, only losing twice but both times Tom obviously took advantage. It is delicately poised as our very next fixture is at home to Tom and then to Orenburg (4th). I'm excited to play those fixtures, even if it will be tense. Anyway, overall in these two months either side of the winter break, we've won four, drawn three and lost two.

One of those defeats was to Shinnik on 6 November, we didn't play well and deserved to lose. We followed that with a good, strong away performance to now third place side Kuban and got a draw. Wins versus Tosno and Alania came either side of a draw with Armavir prior to the season interval. It should've been three wins from three to end November as we had led by two goals versus Armavir before throwing it away. Meanwhile, Alysson scored three of our five goals against Tosno and Alania. As for the friendlies, we lost to Krasnodar, Amkar and Tosno but beat Volgar.

We resumed league action in March 2039 with victory over Vityaz after two midfielders got on the scoresheet in Zaur Kornev and Evgeny Kozlov; both summer signings. Vasily Sidorov got the third in a 3–1 win over Vityaz, but sadly he got injured during that game and damaged his achilles tendon and will be out for 7-8 months! Alysson is my main striker, but that is a huge loss and will affect our promotion hopes. Dmitry Buznikin will deputise, a very good but ageing (35) replacement. If something happens to Alysson, we're truly screwed. Shown by the fact his goal in our next fixture vs. Tyumen secured us a draw, without that we would've lost for sure as we were dreadful.

Two games followed, a win over SKA Khabarovsk (1–2) and a loss to Khimki (1–0). The Two Evgenys™ (Shonia & Polyatskin) scored the key goals versus SKA, but no-one could do the same versus Khimki meaning we not only lost that match but also first place as Tom beat bottom of the league Alania 5–2. After 28 fixtures, we sit second on 58 points. A point off leaders Tom, a point clear of third place Kuban and four clear of fourth and fifth place sides Orenburg and Dynamo Moscow. Ten matches remain!

Sidorov's injury, the squad statistics and awards are below. As well as one piece of transfer news from the January window: Temur Maisuradze has joined Dinamo Minsk permanently after a short loan spell. That was the only activity by us in the window.

One final piece of business. I have signed a new contract with Mordovia. My previous deal was due to end in June, I am now contracted with Mordovia until June 2041. Hopefully, hopefully, those extra two years will be with Premier League football.

2039 - April and May:
Crunch time arrives! Ten matches were left to play, we were in at least a three-way fight for promotion. Could we secure the title, promotion by itself, the expectation of a play-off spot or would we miss out all together?

Fixtures:
https://i.imgur.com/7aLqumx.png

Table:
https://i.imgur.com/oK6ymuJ.png

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/vsYXJoO.png

PROMOTED as CHAMPIONS! Fantastic achievement, we were expected a play-off place at best in July 2038 but we've been promoted to the top-flight of Russian football as First Division winners. We won promotion on the penultimate day, prior to scooping the trophy on the last day. Buzzing! Second promotion in the save, the other was with Bucheon in South Korea in 2026. It's the first trophy in the save for eleven years, since the three-cup season with South China in 2028.

As mentioned in the past post, we had two huge fixtures to start these final two months - at home to Tom (1st) and Orenburg (4th). Incredibly, we battered Tom 3–0 (!) to regain top spot! Andrey Bragin, Georgy Maltsev and Vadim Mamaev with the goals - what a victory! We then managed a very good point by hosting Orenburg and tying 1–1 thanks to an Evgeny Ivanov I strike - big point, strengthened our grip on a top four position. We annoyingly drew with Yenisey next time out, before gaining an important three points on the road in Ramenskoye against Saturn.

Another 1–1 followed, the third of the month, versus Spartak Nalchik; we were terrible that day and got lucky with an own-goal. A flying start at home to Baltika came to end April 2039, Alexey Kornilov and Bragin getting the early goals. Neftekhimik were up next, we won that by a single goal after Alysson ended his eight-match goalless streak in the 82nd-minute. This secured us a play-off place! In my 700th career match, too! Days later brought a big match at home to Dynamo Moscow, a play-off chaser. It was a tight, tight fixture but we dramatically stole the points thanks to a Evgeny Polyatskin winner five minutes from full-time. We could've won the title there and then if results went our way, but they didn't.

Going into the penultimate day, we knew a win over Volgar would secure promotion at least; perhaps even the title. We drew versus Volgar, but thanks to Spartak Nalchik getting a late leveller against Tom we secured promotion to the Russian Premier League! Absolutely delighted, but the title was in my sights! We met Luch-Energiya at home on the last day, while Orenburg, the only team who could stop us winning the title, played Yenisey. Goals from Lautaro Seimandi and Dmitry Buznikin gave us victory over Luch and secured us the 2038–39 First Division trophy! Yenisey actually beat Orenburg anyway.

What. A. Season! We will be playing Russian Premier League football next season, a first for me while the club returns there for the first time in five seasons; having last participated in 2033–34. I have been added to the club's 'favoured personnel' section which is neat, while my job status is at 'very secure'. Bring on next season! Below, you can see the stages of the season's end.

Liaoning Hongyun – Where Are They Now? – Ten Years Later:
Today I revisit Liaoning Hongyun to see how they have done in the ten years since I left them after a one year and one day spell.

My Record:
2028 - 16/18 (Super League) | PLD34 | W9 | D3 | L22 | GF37 | GA75 | GD-38 | PTS30
2029 - 18/18 (Super League) | PLD34 | W3 | D6 | L25 | GF32 | GA82 | GD-50 | PTS15
Joined: August 2028 | Sacked: August 2029
Trophies: 0 (-)

The second big job of my career I'd say, after Bucheon. Other than that, I was managing in the lower Asian leagues and doing very well. Whereas now, I was just starting to test myself in the big Asian leagues in South Korea and now China. Just like in S. Korea with Bucheon, my tenure in China was pretty similar. I only lasted a year before being sacked. It's key to say I was managing a First Division club in the Super League, these two seasons with Liaoning were the club's first in the top-flight for ten seasons. Also, as you'll see in a moment, it was their last years in the Super League for a further five years after my departure.

I joined midway through the 2028 Chinese Super League season with the club sat in 16th with just six fixtures to play, my job was to keep the club up. I did just that, but only just after finishing in the same position as when I took over - 16th. That meant a play-off double header with second tier Helanshan. We eased past them 1–4 on aggregate to retain our place in the top division. That was the only high with Liaoning as the following campaign, 2029, wasn't pretty. I was sacked just after halfway through the season with the club bottom of the ladder with just two wins after twenty-five matches; those wins were vs. big clubs Shanghai Greenland Shenhua and Shanghai SIPG. Needless to say, the club was eventually relegated.

Their Record Since:
2030 - 14/20 (First Division) | PLD38 | W14 | D7 | L17 | GF54 | GA60 | GD-6 | PTS49
2031 - 12/20 (First Division) | PLD38 | W14 | D9 | L15 | GF43 | GA45 | GD-2 | PTS51
2032 - 19/20 (First Division) | PLD38 | W9 | D11 | L18 | GF38 | GA53 | GD-15 | PTS38
2033 - n/a (Second Division) | PLDn/a | Wn/a | Dn/a | Ln/a | GFn/a | GAn/a | GDn/a | PTSn/a
2034 - 2/20 (First Division) | PLD38 | W18 | D11 | L9 | GF55 | GA42 | GD+13 | PTS65
2035 - 15/18 (Super League) | PLD34 | W7 | D6 | L21 | GF34 | GA59 | GD-25 | PTS27
2036 - 17/18 (Super League) | PLD34 | W5 | D8 | L21 | GF28 | GA53 | GD-25 | PTS23
2037 - 10/20 (First Division) | PLD38 | W13 | D14 | L11 | GF53 | GA48 | GD+5 | PTS53
2038 - 1/20 (First Division) | PLD38 | W20 | D12 | L6 | GF62 | GA38 | GD+24 | PTS72
Period: August 2029 to August 2039
Trophies: 1 (First Division X1)

It has been a very interesting ten years for Liaoning Hongyun. They spent three years down in the First Division. placing in 14th, 12th and then 19th. The latter meant they actually got relegated to the third tier of Chinese football! Pretty shocking, that was their one and only season in the Second Division; they've never been that low as a professional team between 1994 and 2039. They came back at the first time of asking, and remarkably gained promotion again straight away to return to the Chinese Super League; back-to-back promotions under manager Qu Xiaohui. Two seasons were participated in China's top tier before they suffered relegation back to the First Division in 2037. However, in 2038, they won the First Division title and got back to tier one. Rollercoaster journey! They've had seven managers in ten years, btw.

Around the league, Jiangsu Suning won the Super League in both my years. They've only won two more since (2033, 2034), Shanghai SIPG have won it six times while there was a shock winner in 2037 as Shanghai Shenxin won it! A team that finished 12th and 7th in my years in China. Up until 2033 there were a mid-to-low table team but in 2033 and 2034 they ended 4th. Then in 2035 2nd and in 2036 3rd before claiming their first-ever Super League title in 2037; beating SIPG by a single point. More incredibly, they even won the AFC Champions League in the same season as well as the FA Cup! Treble! Unbelievable achievement by Shi Yong. They finished 2nd in the 2038, but are currently four points clear at the top in 2039 with eight to play.

Hebei China Fortune got relegated in 2035 which is a surprise, other than that nothing else has dramatically occurred in China's Super League.

2039 - August and September:
After a stunning promotion run last season by becoming champions of the Russian First Division, I began my debut season in Russian Premier League football with my third Russian team, Mordovia.

Fixtures:

Table:
https://i.imgur.com/mvmGC3n.png

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/4ie2L81.png

Feet firmly back on the ground. A perfect pre-season against some good opposition, e.g. Sassuolo and Olexandriya, didn't put us in good stead for the new season. We started OK though with a 3–3 draw against expected league rivals Arsenal Tula. Good-bad-good. Good: We went 0–2 up. Bad: Let it go to 3–2. Good: Got it back to 3–3. Alysson hat-trick, a man I signed last season and has been on fire ever since with 19 goals in 45 games; he has since attracted interest from French Ligue 1 clubs. Ever since this result, it has gone bad.

We lost six on the bounce versus Amkar, Tom, Lokomotiv Moscow, Krasnodar, Rubin and Zenit. Amkar and Tom were first up, we battled well in those two games and were unlucky to lose both times. Then we faced some of the bigger names in Russian football in the other four. I didn't expect anything from those fixtures and that's exactly what I got. Funnily enough, our best plays in those four matches was actually versus Lokomotiv - which we lost 4–1; we took the lead before conceding but it remained 1–1 until 60mins. Before the Rubin and Zenit fixtures, we beat Quadro 0–4 in a friendly during the international break.

After Zenit, we faced lower league Vityaz in the Russian Cup fifth round. Usually I rest my entire eleven for the cup and play my reserves, but this time I fielded my strongest team and was rewarded with a very convincing 0–3 win; Vasily Sidorov, returning after an eight-month injury lay-off, scored a brace to go with new signing Pape Sambou's first goal for Mordovia. Sidorov scored again next time out in the Premier League versus Ural. This was the most infuriating match of the two months, we were a goal ahead until Ural's Elvis Crăciun scored twice in four minutes in the last ten to win it for them. Should've won that!

This means we are bottom of the pile (16th). We have one point from a possible twenty-four. Woeful. Although, we have had tricky fixtures to play. Emphasised that we face three of the bottom five in our next trio of matches. We must, must pick up points versus Anzhi Makhachkala, Krylia Sovetov and Ufa. Our only point came against our nearest challengers, Arsenal (15th). Our next six league fixtures are more friendlier - we've faced five of the current top six at the moment.

Our expectations, squad statistics and transfer history is below.

As for the transfer window, I got to splash the cash more than usual due to the Premier League not having the same restrictions as the First Division. In the FD, you can only give a few players more than £825 and are only allowed five foreign players overall. Very limiting. In the PL, there is no wage limit and you can have as many foreign players registered as you like (six can play, too!). With that in mind, I spent £325k. £275k of that was spent on Artur Kuzmin from SKA Khabarovsk. He had a sensational season last year in our league, grabbing ten goals and twelve assists! 105k was spent on goalkeeper Srdjan Djurovic, from Spartak Subotica. Those were two of seven signings, the other five were free transfers.

The aforementioned Sambou (CM) joined from Maccabi Haifa, while Jan Vitek (CB) and Jonas Mikkola (CM) joined from fellow Israeli club Beitar Jerusalem. Sergiy Shevchuk (FW) made the move from Stal, while Sergey Chebotarev (LB) signed from Amkar. I was happy with my business, but yet to see the fruits of it yet. As for outs, there were no major departures although notable ones were: Evgeny Ivanov I (Volgar, loan), Valentin Tudose (Retirement), Dean Kostadinovic/Denis Gordeochuk (Released), Anatoly Orekhov (Kuban, free), and Valery Pavlov (Armavir, loan).

You can see our awards/records below. Speaking of awards, I actually won the 2038–39 First Division Manager of the Year award! My first individual award since 2022! Lastly, during the off-season I was linked with Spartak Moscow (just relegated from Premier League to First Division, madly). I wasn't interested.

2039 - October and November:
Following title-winning promotion in 2038–39, we started our Premier League season in awful form with seven defeats in eight. Has form improved?

No, it hasn't. We extended our winless streak in the league from eight to fourteen matches, absolutely rank. However, in the last two matches of last month, November 2039, we are actually two undefeated which included, crazily, three actual points! It has been a very frustrating two months though.

We lost to Anzhi Makhachkala (love that name) and drew with Krylia Sovetov, disappointing results against two teams (at the time) near us in the table; position-wise, at least. That point vs. Krylia gave us two points from a possible thirty. Defeats continued to come in the next five matches in all competitions. Ufa beat us on our own patch, as did Sibir but we also suffered losses on the road in Moscow against Lokomotiv (in the Russian Cup) and CSKA and in Grozny versus Akhmat. Then, a miracle occurred on 27 November 2039 as we won three legit points at home to fourth place Rostov. Alexey Kornilov scored a scorching free-kick on 27mins to give us a seriously needed victory. After that, we gained another point after visiting sixth place Amkar.

The most annoying part of that losing spell was the fact, aside from three matches, we only lost the other nine by two goals or less. Performances OK, but just kept conceding wonder goals, free-kicks, penalties. Very irritating. Had a few injuries and suspensions too. Tactics have chopped and changed dramatically, hopefully the most recent one will continue our two-match unbeaten streak. We remain bottom in 16th, four points off 15th (Arsenal Tula) but a big nine off the relegation play-off places; currently held by the two Moscow clubs - it would be mad if they went down to join Dynamo and Spartak in tier two, the Moscow clubs are struggling big time in this save.

Surprisingly, during this spell the board, fans and players haven't once got on my back which is encouraging. I've struggled with top-flight teams before in this save, namely Bucheon (South Korea) and Liaoning Hongyun (China), and the aforementioned trio of things got on me instantly, but not Mordovia. My board confidence, squad statistics and a single monthly award can be viewed below.

2039 to 2040 - December to March:
Poor form followed by a glimmer of hope was the story of October and November's form, me and Mordovia aimed to build on a (majestic!) two-match unbeaten streak.

Just five competitive fixtures in these months due to the winter break and the March international window. Pre-winter break, we had a terrific chance to gain six points from a possible nine as we faced Arsenal Tula, the side directly above us in the table and a side that had won just one match from sixteen - like us. So, guess what happened: We won... We lost 0–3. At home. Obviously. No idea how Arsenal are second bottom, they played like Barcelona against me; very unfortunate, that...

After two wins in three friendlies during the off months, we returned to league action with a victory over fellow promotion club Tom. Alysson and Jan Vitek with goals. Should've meant something, doesn't/hasn't. Next came consecutive 4–0 defeats away to Krasnodar (then 2nd, now 1st) and Rubin (3rd). No shock there. Another friendly win followed, before yet another defeat at the hands of Lokomotiv Moscow. Relegation all but in the bag. 16th, ten points off the play-offs. Frustrating, but hey-ho.

Somewhat amusingly, I almost left Mordovia for another club. Anzhi Makhachkala offered me a job interview, no idea why. I took the interview, it went well but they chose a different manager; bloody Einsteins! I did state I wouldn't have taken the job until the end of the season, don't like jumping ships. I was obviously interested in the job big time, but didn't want to leave Mordovia mid-season no matter the circumstances. Saying that, my board confidence level still hasn't dropped below 'stable' all season which is very shocking. I mean I'm glad and all, but shocked. I'd like the stay, even when relegation is confirmed. Also, the media linked me with the Arsenal Tula job, but nothing came of it.

All of that can be seen below, as well as one award and the squad statistics. Transfer window history too, just one in and one out. In: Jef Van Den Eynde (Free, RFC Liège). Out: Denis Baranov (Loan, Armavir).

Relegation. The ending was expected, but the way it happened wasn't quite what I was expecting. We officially got the drop on 12 May 2040 following a 5–0 thumping at the hands of Sibir, but that was an unfortunate way to go as we were actually in good form previously. Up until relegation was secured, we only lost once in six fixtures. That's easily our best form of the season, so it hurt a bit when we got battered by Sibir. Despite said form, the great escape was never really on as other sides around us got similar results. The gap between us and the play-off points remained at ten points, but we took our points tally from nine to twenty which is good all things considered - we added some respectability to it. First part of the season killed us.

As for the matches themselves. We got an incredible victory over title-chasing Zenit, Alexey Kornilov with a free-kick winner; just like vs. Rostov in November 2039. Then came a point away to Ural, before another three points came our way as we visited Anzhi Makhachkala and won via an Alysson goal; he also got us the point versus Ural. We extended our undefeated run from three to four on 25 April by drawing with Krylia Sovetov, goalless but pleasing. That streak ended with defeat in Bashkortostan against Ufa. I thought that would've set a return to our terrible form, but it didn't as we responded with a win over CSKA Moscow; Kornilov and Alysson scoring. Then came the relegation clincher vs. Sibir, before rounding off the campaign with losses versus Akhmat and Rostov.

So we finished bottom, back down to the First Division we go. That's going to be interesting on and off the field. On it, can we regain promotion. Off it, will I even still be manager and how will the contract situation work itself out. About the latter: In the First Division, you can only give a few players more than £825 p/w whereas in the top-flight there is no limit. Therefore, we have basically all of the squad on contracts which aren't suited for the second tier. I don't believe many of them have relegation wage drop clauses so I assume I'll have to renegotiate with them which could be tricky.

My board confidence is at 'very insecure'. Which, albeit understandable, is strange considering not once all season was it at anything lower than 'stable'. Even when relegation was confirmed, it was at 'stable'. Yet now it's 'very insecure'? No board meeting yet, so I assume I'll be in charge next season; at worst with a points tally goal. I want to stay, to try and get them back up. We have a good squad for the First Division, contractual stuff dependant of course. Below: Squad stats and an award.

This is the first official relegation to my name in the save, although Bucheon and Liaoning Hongyun fans will disagree with that.

2040 - July and August:
After suffering my first relegation of the save with Mordovia in 2039–40, I kickstart the following campaign as we aim to return to the top-flight at the first time of asking.

It has been an enjoyable return to second tier football. At the end of last season, the board called a meeting to discuss my future. They didn't sack me but asked I got seven points from the opening five games of this season. As you can see, we smashed that points request. We won back-to-back fixtures to open the campaign against Torpedo Moscow and Volgar, scoring late winners in both. We were 2–1 down to Torpedo before Vasily Sidorov and Alexey Kornilov turned it around. Versus Volgar, we were losing before Jan Vitek and Sidorov got goals. Strong spirit from the lads. July 2040 ended with a draw against Baltika, overall a disappointing result but they had started the season well.

August got going with three straight victories. Away to Vityaz, thanks to yet another late goal; Sidorov again. Then at home to Khimki (3–0) and Neftekhimik (2–0), five goals with five different goalscorers. The next four fixtures were the last of these two months, we didn't win one of them. They were to tricky opponents, though. Spartak Nalchik earned a draw at the Mordovia Arena, a decent high mid-table team. At this point, we were sitting second and one point off leaders Lokomotiv Moscow. We faced the recently relegated Lokomotiv on 22 August and got a good 1–1 tie. On the note of Moscow football. Spartak and Dynamo got promoted last season, CSKA stayed up but the aforementioned Lokomotiv got relegated. Eventful footballing city!

The most recent two were both losses. 2–0 to Kuban, very tough away that versus a side who should be in the Premier Division. After that, we hilariously lost 2–5 in the Russian Cup fourth round to Shinnik. I rested my first line-up, but it wouldn't have mattered who I played. One of those games you get in Football Manager, they were 1–5 ahead after 36 minutes with the goals being the only highlights of the first half. Go figure. At least it came in the cup. Back to the league, we are positioned in third place; level on points with surprise package Vityaz and four off star leaders Lokomotiv.

Few other news notes. The board expectation is to reach the promotion play-offs. That Russian Cup debacle was my 100th game in charge of Mordovia. Our scouting range has been extended to worldwide. We were involved in three awards. The end of season awards and squad statistics are below, too.

Two other big things. The transfer window has come and gone, it was a busy one. That came in the midst of me almost leaving Mordovia to join Dynamo Moscow. I was linked by the media, their fans wanted me and they even offered me an interview but latterly decided to hire someone else - as has happened in past times with other clubs. I was more than happy to stay with Mordovia anyway.

As for transfers. Four players joined with eighteen departing. Alexandr Smertin came in first, a left-back on a free from Kuban; I managed him at Khimki between 2034 and 2037. Georgy Lepskiy joined on loan from top-flight champions Krasnodar a day later, he is a CAM; back-up. As were the other two: Alexandr Sadikov (Free, Orenburg, FW) | Stanislav Irkhin (Loan, Rostov, CM). Despite numerous outgoings, I didn't really feel the need for too many signings; happy with my squad. I mentioned in the last post about my worries about the wage rule discrepancy between tier one and tier two, but it turns out nothing changes; the players keep their original contracts even though they basically fail the league rules.

Numerous departures, a load of notable ones. I had to cut the squad's foreigner limit to just five, I thought that would be difficult but after last season's shocker it wasn't hard to separate the wanted from the unwanted. Sergiy Shevchuk joined SKA Khabarovsk (130k), as did Jonas Mikkola (195k) and Sergey Chebotarev (35k). SKA were promoted last season and raided us, which helped as they took my deadwood; three players who joined for nothing a year previous. Other big names to go: Dmitry Kozlov and Dmitry Buznikin retired, Alexandr Lis was released while Pape Sambou (Zagłębie Lubin) and Vladimir Mironov (Spartak Moscow) were sold for a combined 870k. Sambou was unwanted, but Mironov was my number one goalkeeper but wanted to go; I let him leave as young Serbian 'keeper Srdjan Djurovic, signed last year, is just as good.

The huge transfer out was Alysson. The 25 year old Brazilian striker I signed on a free in 2038 left to join newly promoted French Ligue 1 club Havre. He scored 24 in 62 apps, sold for 1.6m - superb free signing. I didn't want him to go, but he has wanted to leave for a while. Fair enough, he was been attracting high interest for ages; Ligue 1 clubs, La Liga clubs, other top European teams and even West Bromwich Albion of the English Premier League. Havre were the only side to offer me what I wanted so they got their man. I'll be following his career with interest. A few notable loan outs: Valery Pavlov (Torpedo Moscow), Vitaly Volkov* (Volgar), Alexandr Zaitsev (Sokol) and Evgeny Ivanov II (Sibir). *Volkov has since been recalled following Mironov's transfer out.

Dynamo Bryansk – Where Are They Now? – Ten Years Later:
Taking a look back at my shortest job in the save so far with Dynamo Bryansk. In may have been an unhappy tenure, but it did give me my first break into Russian football which has worked out pretty well.

My Record:
2030/31 - 20/20 (First Division) | PLD38 | W1 | D7 | L30 | GF14 | GA87 | GD-73 | PTS10
Joined: July 2030 | Resigned: September 2030
Trophies: 0 (-)

A grand total of 73 days were spent in Bryansk with Dynamo. I joined them ahead of their third season in the second tier of Russian football in the save following promotion. I joined one game into the season, which would usually be fine but they only had seventeen first-team players with no youth or reserve players. They also had no key staff, meaning I had to build the club on and off the pitch whilst also concentrating on the league. It wasn't a good mix as, on 30 September 2030, I resigned as Dynamo Bryansk manager with the club bottom of the table after ten defeats in fourteen matches. We were dreadful, so I decided to leave and hope someone else done a better job. They didn't, they got relegated with just one victory.

Their Record Since:
2031/32 - ?/? (Second Division) | PLD? | W? | D? | L? | GF? | GA? | GD? | PTS?
2032/33 - 20/20 (First Division) | PLD38 | W1 | D3 | L34 | GF16 | GA85 | GD-69 | PTS6
2033/34 - ?/? (Second Division) | PLD? | W? | D? | L? | GF? | GA? | GD? | PTS?
2034/35 - ?/? (Second Division) | PLD? | W? | D? | L? | GF? | GA? | GD? | PTS?
2035/36 - 13/20 (First Division) | PLD38 | W13 | D9 | L16 | GF40 | GA47 | GD-7 | PTS48
2036/37 - 16/20 (First Division) | PLD38 | W11 | D11 | L16 | GF41 | GA44 | GD-3 | PTS44
2037/38 - ?/? (Second Division) | PLD? | W? | D? | L? | GF? | GA? | GD? | PTS?
2038/39 - ?/? (Second Division) | PLD? | W? | D? | L? | GF? | GA? | GD? | PTS?
2039/40 - 20/20 (First Division) | PLD38 | W1 | D9 | L28 | GF24 | GA72 | GD-48 | PTS12
Period: September 2030 to September 2040
Trophies: 0 (-)

It wasn't just me, then! They've continued to be a woeful side, it's clear they are not good enough for tier two of the pyramid. They did return at the first time of asking in the season after me, but immediately went back down in 2032/33 by finishing last and, again, only winning once. Two further seasons followed in the Second Division, before they reappeared in the First Division in 2035 and, to the surprise of many I'm sure, managed to avoid relegation by placing 13th. It was only delaying the inevitable though as, in 2037, they dropped back down to tier three. Like last time, two seasons were spent in the Second Division before again playing First Division football in the following campaign. Yet again, they failed to stay up with one win to their name.

Not much to reflect on around the league, as I've been in the league (bar the first four years after leaving Dynamo) for the majority of the time.

W3 D4 L2 is the story of these months. Up and down spell, we've lost a little bit of our spark but are still getting acceptable results. The first of those four draws came against Lada, loanee Georgy Lepskiy grabbing an equaliser. Then came two straight victories versus Alania and Anzhi Makhachkala, both by a score of three-nil. The win over relegation favourites Alania was expected, but the win over promotion rivals Anzhi was stunning! Vasily Sidorov scored a hat-trick versus Alania before notching a brace versus Anzhi, he has been outstanding so far this season - Alysson who?

Our second defeat of the campaign came in September's last match as we were beaten by another top-of-the-table rival Orenburg, a Vadim Mamaev own-goal condemn us to defeat at the Gazovik Stadium. A hard fought win over Tyumen followed before a defeat to Tosno. Since then, we've drawn three in a row. Two 1–1s vs. Fakel and Luch-Energiya and one 0–0 vs. Armavir. The latter was disappointing, but the other two were good points. That Luch match was a big one for Sidorov, he didn't score but his appearance meant he is now the club's all-time leading appearance holder!

We find ourselves down in sixth, which sounds disappointing but it isn't really as the league is incredibly tight after eighteen fixtures. We are only one point off second, with the gap between second and eleventh just four points - that's crazy! We do need to improve performances though. Ages left in the season, it could go either way. Lokomotiv Moscow looking very good for the title and an instant return to the top-flight.

2040 - November and December:
The final months of 2040 with Mordovia. We lost our spark in the previous matches, it had to return or else we'd risk dropping down an extremely tight league table.

Excellent month of football! Just six matches due to the winter break, but we have been in tremendous form after winning five of those six. Our 'worst' result of this spell was a goalless draw with Shinnik, but we more than made up for it by winning the next five; scoring fifteen goals whilst only conceding once! We faced Torpedo Moscow on 10 November and steamrolled them 4–0 via goals from Georgy Maltsev, Evgeny Ivanov I, Vasily Sidorov and Evgeny Polyatskin. Then came a 0–2 win in Astrakhan versus Volgar, before another 4–0 home win with it this time coming against Baltika; Sidorov scored all four goals, a truly incredible display of finishing from our talisman!

A visit to my ex-club Khimki followed and we whipped the floor with them on their own patch, winning 0–3; Maltsev scoring the pick of the goals against his former team. December 2040 had just one fixture, it was against impressive overachievers Vityaz. We narrowly beat them at the Mordovia Arena 2–1, that man Maltsev scoring an 84th-minute winner. That win was massive, it means we sit third in the table and are just two points off the leaders Lokomotiv Moscow; who have thrown away a seven point lead which they held in October. We are in the all important top four places by four points.

The usual awards/squad stats stuff is below. Right at the end of this run, I was offered a job interview with top-flight Arsenal Tula but I declined it. They sit in the relegation zone but are by no means down and out, only a few points from safety but I wasn't feeling it. I'm enjoying my time as Mordovia manager and, unless I'm sacked or offered a job with a safe top-flight side (likes of Ufa or Akhmat etc.) or a big club from elsewhere, have no intention of leaving the club - that may change if we fail to reach the play-offs, but for now I'm staying.

2041 - January to April:
After fantastic form prior to the winter break, we were heading into the new year right in the promotion race. We were third coming into 2041, two points behind leaders Lokomotiv Moscow but, most key, four points clear of the non-play-off places. I just want promotion back to the top-flight, not fussed with how we might achieve it.

Whew. With just five fixtures remaining, we sit top of the First Division table! It has been a rollercoaster two months of competitive action, with positions changing regularly. As of now, we lead Lokomotiv Moscow and Fakel Voronezh by two points and are in the promotion play-offs by six points. Still a lot of work to do, but I couldn't be more happy with the team. Hopefully we can complete the job.

As you can see, we have been in absolutely brilliant form after winning six, drawing two and losing just once; meaning we've only lost twice since October 2040! After good friendly results, the first proper match of 2041 was a draw with Neftekhimik, Artur Kuzmin making sure of a point for us on the road. Next came three very difficult fixtures against Spartak Nalchik, Kuban and Lokomotiv Moscow; the latter two my main rivals at that time. We went to Nalchik to play Spartak and came away with all three points thanks to Vasily Sidorov's winner just after the break. In the match-up with Kuban, we also beat them by a single goal with Georgy Maltsev popping up with his fifth goal of the campaign. Big win!

The match with Lokomotiv was incredible. We lost it 3–2 at the RZD Arena but man was it a great match. We were leaders coming into it after Lokomotiv went through a rough patch but remained second. They took the lead through Sergey Kokoev, prior to Sidorov getting us a leveller. It remained 1–1 until 79mins when Lokomotiv's Alexandr Frolov scored. I thought that was that, until Evgeny Polyatskin popped up with an unbelievable volley from outside the box on 86 minutes (see below). I was buzzing, thinking we had got a crucial point but there was a sting in the tale as we gave away a stoppage time penalty. Kokoev coolly converted to put Lokomotiv back in first place. Gut-wrenching, but proud of our effort; couldn't fault us one bit.

It was then key to respond, and we had the perfect fixture to do so; bottom of the table Alania. We expectedly made light work of them and won 0–3, Alexey Kornilov and Sidorov scored to go with an own-goal. Another friendly looking fixture followed in Lada at home, the relegation fighters performed well and made us battle for a 1–0 victory; goal from Kuzmin. We faced play-off chasing Orenburg next time out and got a good point after a 0–0. Anzhi Makhachkala hosted us for the penultimate fixture of April 2041, a tricky visit to an underachieving team. Sidorov got a brace to send us away home with a win. Anzhi did us a huge favour next time out as well as they scored a late, late equaliser at home to Lokomotiv which, coupled with our win in the Tosnensky District vs. Tosno, meant we end the month top of the tree and two points clear!

Extremely tense few months, it wont get any less tense in the final five with a massive fixture away to Fakel (3rd) on 15 May the pick of the bunch. Three out of five are home fixtures though which is encouraging as we've only lost at the Mordovia Arena once all season; a league best. A load of awards have come my players' way, deservedly. They can be seen below, as well as the squad statistics. Also, one piece of key news. I have signed a new contract with Mordovia. I'm contracted in Saransk until June 2043. Very happy here.
