Agree on Riddick as well.

Abso-fucking-lutely brilliant. Pete Postlethwaite at his very best.

Thought the Bruce Willis scenes were all terrible. His girlfriend in the film must be one of the most annoying characters in film history.

It certainly confused me they went after Jeremy Renner's character when he didn't seem to have anything against him, and the film made it look like they just wanted to take him out for the sake of it.

That's just silly.

It's getting so much hype at the moment. What was so good about it?

Beautifully shot. Loved Shame but McQueen really took it to a new level here. The acting was first class too; Chiwetel Ejifor, Fassbender, Lupita Nyong'o, Cumberbatch and Paul Dano were all exceptional.

Just seen it and I agree. They made him out as a good guy who does things for the community but then go for him

As someone who rates most of his films a lot lower than the consensus, I'd say it's the second best Tarantino film.

Bobber can probably help me out on this, but have many other directors first 3 films been of such a high class?
The Platypus
Not many. Most directors have one small movie that's good but not fantastic right before they go on their run. Tarantino is probably the most famous exception.
Haven't seen 12 Years a Slave yet, but I assume it will be fantastic.

\o/ one of my favourite films! Wouldn't have thought that'd be your bag though.

Not in the mood to write a full review, but I feel I saw something different in this film than most of the reviewers I have read did. Whereas most reviewers tend to emphasise how depressing they found the film, I instead saw something very sweet and beautiful in the love and loyalty Georges shows towards Anne in their struggle against the brutality of old age. Haneke's detached and almost spartan directing lets the exceptional acting performances by Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva really shine and makes the film feel very real. It is very easy to forget that you are watching actors and not a real couple.
By focusing on an elderly couple that left the energetic passion of newly found love behind them long ago Amour offers us a very moving look at a different side of romance than we typically get to see in fiction, and the end result is as marvellous as it is heartbreaking.
5/5.

Twelve Years a Slave and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom were both incredible. Seriously, if you haven't seen them, you should definitely do so.

Then watched Source Code and Limitless, both awesome films too.
Drinking a bottle of rum a day has really impacted my film watching
The Platypus
Rating Lone Survivor over any Scorsese movie ever is pretty much a crime.

To be completely honest...Saving Mr. Banks blows both of them out of the water in my opinion. At least as far as overall film is concerned. And both the other two movies I named are much better films as well.

Tbf, he did have a point. Lots of drugs, sex and financial jargon. I enjoyed it though.
