Can anyone shed any light on this please?:
Started a new game as Celtic. Selected the filter to hide any unrealistic staff signings when looking for a technique coach. Found Alan Thompson but when I click him the speech bubble is red and he is not interested.....but whenever I go back he's still listed in the search results? I know he had a fall out with Celtic before but why is he showing in the search results then if he would have no intention of negotiating? Not just him btw, this has happened with different clubs and different people.

With Thompson it could be one of a few things;
1. He won't return after recently leaving
2. In the editor he is set to dislike Celtic
3. There's some sort of new setting saying a player/staff member won't go back to a club(Dunno about this, haven't messed on in the editor this year)
Chances are he appears on the staff search because it doesn't take into account his club preferences, same with players, the search probably doesn't take into account club preferences or agent relationships.
What I've found is if you untick 'unrealistic staff/player' option you can bring in some players and staff who your Ast Man considers to be unrealistic, so don't live or die by that filter otherwise you could be missing out on some right gems.

Seriously? If that's true I've missed out on years and years of potential quality!

It certainly doesn't take into consideration every little thing like recent signing of a contract, hatred/love of clubs, the agents relationship with you, the opposition managers relationship with you, your relative position in the league, the size of your squad, the time of the season etc
Basically more things will come into play once you actually open the contract/transfer negotiation box, it's not all calculated when you do a search otherwise searching would take forever!

Yep, I often use it when I'm managing absolutely abysmal clubs. Like Rob says lots of things go into the search, for example, a players reputation might not fit the preset for your club, but other factors could swing in your favour meaning he would be willing to join your club.
