I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released and when the full game comes out to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMT or in existing save-games. There's a workaround for that in the first post.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2017 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German and Japanese National teams don't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, encompassing most major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all the files in this paragraph to work, however, you will need to start a new game.

To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly.

if i spot anything i will let you know. but i think this is pretty much spot on now mons. just the award issue that SI need to sort out and im ready to go for my long term save.
Top work mate. this game would be unplayable to me without you and this file
mons
I'm sure there'll be some other stuff still to fix, but I'm quite happy with the way the files are looking at the moment.

Please read the installation instructions and the text in the main post.
Is this in an existing save game or a new game?
mons
Absolutely no need for the caps lock. Can you be a bit more specific? What doesn't work exactly? There's a video in the main post - have you followed the steps therein?

The problem is when I go to sdcard\Android\data\sportsinteractive.fm17\files\installed - the folder is completely empty. I've ticked to show hidden folders and nothing is appearing. Any ideas?
I'm using a Samsung Galaxy tab S btw.
If someone could help me with this really would be most appreciated because the licensing restrictions on tablet are a real setback.

If you are playing FMT the work around works for saved games as well. I replaced the # with a space on all three inc files (1700, 1701 and 1710) and all names are correct now apart from the Brazil ones.
Thanks mons for your help.
mons
Excellent - good to have that confirmed
Touristas3
what i did was putting the editor data files in my username/documents instead of the public documents in windows 10
this was different from FM16 i think, but now everything works perfectly

You can't legally install the game if not through Steam as far as I'm aware...

I have a data editor file I load with my created club, kept that ticked and started a new game, didn't work, and also unticked my edited database and that's also not made the club names change??
thanks
mons
There's a screenshot in the main post of where the editor data files are to be placed. You may of course have other files there in addition to them.
I'm sorry if you're not understanding "Club names are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game", I would have thought it was pretty self-explanatory. If you don't have these editor data files in place when you start a new game, adding them later simply won't work.
If you want to have the correct club name changes but have started a save game already, there's a workaround in the first post of this thread which would allow you to have them, however you will lose the respective clubs' nicknames.
Hope the above helps.

Where have you placed the editor data files please? They must be in the main editor data folder, and not in a sub-folder contained within. There's a screenshot in the OP of how the folder should look like.

The media files and some other minor additions.
zyprock
I mean the workaround for save game.
And can you do a editor data version for Portugal club name changes?
Thanks.
mons
Due to hard-coded licensing restrictions by SI, it is not possible to have both long and short names for Portuguese clubs, i.e. they must be identical. Any changes you make in an editor data file are quite simply ignored by the game and the only way is to change them via the lnc file.
zyprock
Got it.
Thanks.
But from which year? FM16?
I remember two or three years ago the long name and the short still could be different, just the oringinal one is fake like FCP and SLB.

So basically, I had applied the fix and the German national team had the real players in the team. However, due to an issue with the game, I had to delete cache and preferences and "verify integrity of game cache". After I did this, after playing a few months in the game, I realized that the German national team was again populated with fake players and not the real ones. I just wanted to check, is what I did, i.e. delete cache and preferences etc. the reason for this? I've been playing FM for years and I didn't think an existing save game could be affected by something like this. Or could there be another reason for this?
Note: My other save games (including an earlier version of the affected game) weren't affected. I hadn't played them in a while, and when I checked they still had the real German players. It's only the save game which I played for a few in-game months that reverted to fake German players.
Please let me know what you think.
Thanks!
mons
I think it was FM14, but I'm not 100% sure.
I'm afraid your recollections are slightly mistaken as ever since this happened, it was not possible to have different short and long names for Portuguese clubs.
When you delete cache and preferences, what you are effectively doing is restoring the game to its default state. What happens is that, since some of the files in the default game installation are re-created using this process, then some of the changes made by this download are negated. You will need to re-download the files from this download and re-apply them to the letter. Happily, the German national team issue fix is save-game compatible, although it is not instantaneous - it will only happen the next time that German national players are called up.
Hope this helps
Bara_FC
Hi, yeah that helps a lot, thanks. Just one question, apart from deleting cache and preferences, there shouldn't be a problem, right? Say for example the game updates, this shouldn't affect the state of the German national team in my existing save, right? Only when I start a new game after an update, I'll need to re-apply the fix, correct?
Again, thanks for your help!
Godlike87
mons
It could. I can't tell for sure now what SI will do in the future - which is why I recommend that this file is re-downloaded and re-applied every time that a new official patch is released...
I'm not aware the second Polish tier has a sponsor, but it is renamed yes, same as the Lotto Ekstraklasa.
