SS' Kits
NEW Submission System

A new submission system for the SS Kits has been released. Please see this forum topic.

A full set of SS style default kits for Football Manager 2020 & 2021 (and Football Manager Touch 2020 & 2021) - fronts, backs & goalkeeper backs (the latter 2 are for the tactics screen and sundry other screens).

An improved pack has been released for FM2022, get it here: https://sortitoutsi.net/content/59015/fidneys-ss-style-default-kits-for-fm22

IMPORTANT NOTE - DESPITE THE SCREENSHOTS, YOU WILL ONLY SEE BADGES ON THESE SHIRTS IF YOU ARE NOT USING A BADGE/LOGO PACK. THIS FEATURE WAS "BROKEN" IN ONE OF THE FM21 PATCHES, AND CONTINUES TO BE "BROKEN" IN FM22. ONLY THE DEFAULT (FAKE) BADGES WILL SHOW AND ONLY IF THE CLUB DOES NOT HAVE A BADGE/LOGO LOADED.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1. Place the "Fidney's FM20 SS Style Default Kits v1" file into your user data directory, the default locations are as follows:-
WINDOWS
C:\Users\YOUR NAME\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 202x
MAC CATALINA
Users\USERNAME\Library\Application Support\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 202x\graphics

2. Right click and select "Extract Here"
If/when you see the message saying would you like to replace an existing file select "Yes to All" - this will ONLY over-write files with the same name in the destination. All other files will remain untouched.
NOTE - I believe that unzipping files does not work the same way on a Mac.
For Linux and Mac operating systems please ensure that you place the extracted files in the exact same locations as the file path in the archive, but please ensure that you do not delete any other files when doing so.

***CARE - do not change any of the extracted file paths or the SI "effect/texture" will appear over the kits instead of the SS style texture. Even a change as simple as a capital letter instead of a lower case letter will cause SI "effect/texture" to be superimposed over the kit.

If you are happy with your default kits having a Sports Interactive style effect (texture) as shown in the left hand side of my screenshot then skip instruction 3, and go straight to no. 4.

3. If you prefer your default kits to have the SS kit style effect (texture) as shown in the right hand side of my screenshot simply navigate to the following folder:
WINDOWS
C:\Users\YOUR NAME\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 202x\graphics\pictures\kits\2d\outfield\front\default
MAC CATALINA
Users\USERNAME\Library\Application Support\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 202x\graphics\pictures\kits\2d\outfield\front\default
Then rename the file called effect.png to effectALT.png and the file called effectALT1.png to effect.png
NOTE: This folder also contains versions of these effects without the neck shadow - if you want to use either of those just rename them to effect.png instead

4. If the SS style default kits don't show in your game then go into Preferences, turn off skin caching and reload your skin.

P.S. I do not have a Mac so instructions for Mac have been cobbled together from what I have found online and "borrowed" from other posts. If anything is incorrect, or inappropriately worded then I would be grateful if you would let me know so that I can correct. Thanks.

Enjoy!

Hi Fidney.

I can't get my shirts to show.

In FM21 i have not added any downloadable kits or anything else, all i tried was the kit editor to change the colours and add the strips.

In my pictures directory C:\Users\mynane\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2021\graphics\pictures i only have 1 folder called ads, and I don't have any other files in there.

I made a folder called tigerskit and added your 3 png files and the xml file and that didn't do anything when i rebooted my game.

I need your input on how i can fix this.

You can email me at [email protected]

Sorry for not seeing your Leeds United shirt, i meant no disrespect to you or your team.

Thank you.

Regards

Paul.

Sorry, it's my fault, forgot to change the ID in the config.xml file from the one I checked it with to the one you have for your team!

Open the config.xml file in notepad and you will see 3 lines near the bottom:

 <record from="Richmond_1" to="graphics/pictures/team/671/kits/home"/>
 <record from="Richmond_2" to="graphics/pictures/team/671/kits/away"/>
 <record from="Richmond_3" to="graphics/pictures/team/671/kits/third"/>

Simply change 671 to 4001706 then save the file.

Also please make sure the shirts are named Richmond_1.png, Richmond_2.png and Richmond_3.png.

That's what I named them when I uploaded, but I've noticed that when I download them from here, the names are different.

@junifan @luberasa

I've not come across this issue before. You do not need to delete any graphics to use these default kits, and certainly not any logos. The logo showing in-game for a team should appear in the correct place on the default kit.

Please check and confirm that you have installed the default kits in the exact location specified in the instructions. And I do mean exact, no additional directories, spaces in the names etc. Even something as minor as a capital letter instead of a lower case letter and they will not work properly even if they do show on-screen.

If you are sure they they have been installed in the correct location with exactly the same path then please can you post a screenshot showing your installation folder and also a screenshot from the game showing the issue and I will see if I can work out what is wrong.

Thanks for your time.

Here are the two screenshots : installation folder & in-game screenshot

OK, this is weird - I now have the same problem. Back in December they definitely worked fine ( I posted a screen capture HERE in this thread), but today, I don't get any logos showing on any of the default kits.

Been doing some digging into it and it looks like it is an issue/bug with the game and his issue is mentioned in the Metallic Logos thread HERE. Like you, I use the Metallic Logos and i have done a bit of testing:

Use SS style default kits and use Metallic Logos = No shirt badges

Use SS style default kits and no logo pack = I see shirt badges

Remove SS style default kits but still use Metallic logos = No shirt badges

Remove SS style default kits and no logo pack = I see shirt badges

Guess something in one of the updates of patches between December and now has stopped them showing if you use a logo pack.

I'm not sure what has happend on my save.
I changed a shirt - ensuring the file name was the same - I have done this thousands of times, yet for some reason it gave me a white outline.

Downloaded and put this file in place and its gone a bit odd. Now its ONLY the Cheltenham shirts that are like this, every other team is fine.

I have also deleted and redownloaded the kits files and nothing.

Please see the attachment for more info.

Somone please help, @Fidney  @mons what have i done??

Hi mate - not sure I can see the issue. I might be misunderstanding, but those shirts seem fine to me and I cannot see any white outline.

Have you got any other pictures you can post that might show the issue more clearly?

Paul - I'm stumped.

You config looks fine, and from the screenshot it's in the right folder and that folder is in the right place for it to work.

Can I just check that This PC > Documents > Sports Interactive > Football Manager 2021 your user data folder (if so, your save games will be in This PC > Documents > Sports Interactive > Football Manager 2021 >  Games)?

Are you using any kit packs and if so where are they installed? If you have a League One pack then it should contain Burton Albion kits which may cause a conflict.

Hi @Fidney

The issue is that they should be showing the kits attached.
All other clubs have the “custom” kits showing, apart from Cheltenham. I have checked file names etc however all is how it should be - or so I believe.
Attached is what should be shown.

Cheers,

Ah right, I'm with you now. I have seen similar issues historically, and these have not been connected to using the SS style default kits.

First thing I'd do is check that you have not inadvertently got another folder containing a config.xml that has lines in it for Cheltenham (for example in a folder where you may have had the kits previously, even if there are no actual kits in that folder).

If you are confident that is not the problem, then a fix that has worked historically for kits that refuse to show has been as follows:

Go into the folder containing those kits and open the config.xml file.

In there find the lines:

<record from="cheltenham_1" to="graphics/pictures/team/631/kits/home"/>
<record from="cheltenham_2" to="graphics/pictures/team/631/kits/away"/>

DUPLICATE them, and then edit the duplicate lines by adding the year** at the end, like so:

<record from="cheltenham_1" to="graphics/pictures/team/631/kits/home/2021"/>
<record from="cheltenham_2" to="graphics/pictures/team/631/kits/away/2021"/>

** The year you need to put is the year in-game that the kits are not showing for.

NOTE: You may end up having to repeat this a number of times if the issue occurs over a number of in-game years.

Hope these suggestions help.

Folks - you can also enjoy the SS style default kits in the Editor.

To do this you need to edit an XML file called called special folders.xml which you will find in ...\Steam\steamapps\common\Football Manager 2021 Editor (take a back up first just to be on the safe side).

Open special folders.xml in a text editor:

https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/8aae/egyw6203aijz09n4g.jpg

Amend the file path (only) in the line highlighted above to match the file path to your SS style kits.

For example:

https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/171e/34g5k1rjyfvt7pg4g.jpg

And if you also amend the line underneath (as I have done) and you can also see your custom logos (e.g. Metallic logos) when in the editor.

Save the file and then load up your editor. It's that simple.

NOTE: If you do this, you will need folders with shirt numbers, shorts and socks in ...graphics\pictures\kits\2d\ or you will not see them in the editor. I simply used the Resource Archiver to extract graphics.fmf and copy over the 3 folders named numbers, shorts and socks which you can find there.

Do you have all your graphics in the pictures sub folder, So graphics\pictures\kits,logos,faces etc?

Yes I do. I have my User Data folder in a custom location (D:\Football Manager User Data) but everything inside that is structured as per the default location (C:\Users\YOUR NAME\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2021) so path for me is:

D:\Football Manager User Data\graphics\pictures\ etc.

must've done something wrong, my editor wouldn't load. do i need to follow any special path.

on a separate note, i know it's more complicated but could i use the resource extractor and replace the default kits with your ones then repackage the file.

If your editor won't load then I'd recommend undoing the changes you've made. To be honest, it really is not worth the effort just to see the SS style kits in the editor. Seemed cool at the time, but now it's pretty much “meh”. The editor is not the game itself, and (unless you are addicted to tinkering) you will only use it once in a blue moon so it really isn't worth the effort.

I had to reformat my laptop a few months ago and haven't bothered making these changes on my current installation. Still use the SS style default kits in-game though (along with the SS kits packs, metallic logos, facepacks etc.) just don't bother with making them show in the editor.

On your separate note, I think that would work OK - I can't see why it wouldn't but I haven't tried anything like that myself. Just make sure you take a backup of the .fmf file before you start messing with it because if you don't and things go tits up you might well end up having to reinstall your game. I'm a great one for not following my own advice there - to my cost!

cheers mate, I managed to get it working. i moved the kits and logos in graphics\pictures\…..  i'll make sure for FM22 all my files follow that path first. i'ts useful for me as i like to do alot of tinkering and it's useful to see the kits and logos in the editor.

I've got your default kits working so won't bother messing with the fmf. so won't bother trying for now. i'll wait for FM22 to start messing with things

Hello mate.

The logo don´t show up on the kit.

Unfortunately badges will no longer show on the default kits if you have a logo/badge for that team. Something happened in one of the FM21 patches which stopped them showing, and whatever it was it seems to have been carried into FM22.

The badge will only show on the default kits if the you also have the default (fake) badge for that team.
