Firstly, the cutout should be in 250*250px, like the ones in your second comment. Secondly, it looks really roughly cut and there's a lot of leftover white edges. What did you use to cut the image, and can you post the original source?

I'd recommend using remove.bg to cut images if you aren't already using it.

These are definitely better 👍

I did them all using the remove.bg tool, the difference was that the second batch have normal lighting, but the first one has a kind of “wet” look to all of the photos that I'm far too much of a rookie to know how I can get rid of.

Do you think the second batch is good enough to be submitted?

Got a couple more that I'd love to get some feedback on, although I believe these are the easy ones.

I agree with weeniehutjr that they're fine, but I would perhaps brighten the first 2 a tad - as per the below:

Using the auto-contrast button in the same menu can sometimes do the trick too.

With regards to the other source, whoever removed the original background didn't do a very good job, so I had to tweak stuff a bit. Might be a bit too advanced for you at this stage since you're still starting, so don't worry about it. I would suggest rotating sources like this a bit so that the head is straight rather than tilted to one side 😉

Hi all - I want to help out with doing some cuts for my some teams rather than just submitting my sources. Please could I get some feedback on this image? Would it be okay to submit as a finished cut?

@mons  a couple of other websites for cutting

  1. https://www.cutout.pro/remove-background/upload  Same as remove.bg, but you can upload multiple sources at once, which is a bit easier
  2. https://www.cutout.pro/photo-enhancer-sharpener-upscaler Image enhancer, I'm currently using it and its fantastic

Is the first site as good in terms of output as remove,bg though?

As for the use of image enlargers, we are not particularly big fans. Using an AI image enlarger just “guesses” what certain pixels should look like when you make the image larger, and the result looks blurry/out of focus on certain details, with unrealistically smoothened skin, and unnatural looking hair/beard/eye/teeth details.

It's not really needed for images like this, where the original source is good enough to extract a decent cut from. It might be needed for small sources to bump them up to become just about cuttable, but there will in most cases be better sources to cut images from.

Ive found it just as good, it does sometimes struggle on images with complicated hair, but its great on everything else. The images save as ID's without adding the annoying “removebg-preview” line that remove.bg adds.

Yeah that makes sense with the up scaling. Its amazing what options there are now tho, compared to when we first started out. Doing 25 images used to take hours, but now they can be done in 30 minutes.

Having the process automatized to such an extent is an amazing advantage, for sure. Can be seen with the sheer amount of cuts produced in fact. Back in the day, we used to have around 3,000 images every 5 weeks or so, now it's often more than 300 cuts a day!

As for the upscaling, I think you see what I mean and why I don't necessarily consider the Garnacho and Hojlund cuts as definitive improvements. The current cuts are quite similar and quite recent already, plus the likelihood is that HQ sources for such high-profile players will be available soon anyway, so using image enlarging tools isn't really needed in the way that they might be for the small and slightly blurry source image of a Spanish third-tier youth player, for example…

Ex:

Lasso any yellow shirt and deselect it. Then chose the Hue menu (CTRL+U), choose the yellow drop-down menu and take it all the way down.

The source image is in .webp format. Save it as png or jpg using Paint, crop the area around the face, then put it through remove.bg, nudge the collar up, rotate it a bit and save it in 250x250, and that should do 👍

Hi there guys,

Due to guidelines, this cut is still not acceptable because he is not looking to the camera and his face have angles, am I right?

Apart from that, what other problems are there?

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you, but I wasn't on my PC yesterday evening, and I wanted to give you a proper answer.

It looks like you didn't manage to maintain the source image's aspect ratio which means the image was a bit stretched horizontally when compared to the original source. When going to the image size menu, you have to be sure that the circled bit in the screenshot below is selected:

Check the cut I've just uploaded by way of comparison - all good otherwise 🙂

Hi again, @mons

NP, thanks for your answer anyway. Yes I intentionally unchecked the circle because I thought the dimensions must be exactly 180180, Now having checked that, the dimensions of course are not the same but nearly 180*180.

Seems fine, but it's not square and the dimensions aren't 250x250. If I wanted to quibble, I'd rotate it around 4-5 degrees clockwise before cropping it, and I'd crop it even closer to the chin.

Sorry for the delay in reverting, but I didn't have the time before now to given you a proper reply.

First of all, without having access to the original source, it's a bit hard to make a proper assessment. There doesn't seem to be a lot of hair details but it could be because the source lacks it or your cutting technique removed them. Using remove.bg will lessen the probability of the latter.

Secondly, I would recommend rotating the source perhaps 2-3 degrees anti-clockwise so that the eventual cut isn't ever so slightly tilted to the right like it is.

Thirdly and more importantly, the image is cropped a bit too far from the chin than ideal. 2-3 pixels beneath the chin is more than enough. We want the player's face to fill the canvas for the 250px cutout, which would mean cropping the image along these red lines:

Hi @mons

Cut is quite good, however it isn't as sharp as other cuts. Can I have a look at the source image? It looks like it might not have been very large and you needed to upscale it to fit 250x250. When that is the case, it's a good idea to check the current megapack cut beforehand - if it's good quality, similar in looks and recent, it might not be worth cutting it in the first place…

Hi, the first or second picture for Leonardo Barroso ?

First
Second

I'd be inclined towards the second one as it's a more neutral expression, but both are great and are ideal.

A suggestion - put them through remove.bg again before uploading whichever of the two you prefer. If you click on them, you'll be taken on a screen with a black background which shows there's a little bit of snow in the hair. Putting images through remove.bg can help remove it, and there's also a tutorial on how to spot and clean snow in the first post of this very thread.

Other than that - great work 👏

@mons Does it look good?

I'm not sure it's the right size, because cuts should be either in 180x180 or 250x250. You can easily resize this, naturally.

Also, we want cuts to be cropped within 2-3 pixels of the chin, while still having a collar. In cases like this, the collar should be nudged upwards as shown in the tutorial in the opening post.

Thirdly, this seems a bit on the small side. One should check the person's timeline, because if they already have a cut which is recent, similar and in 250x250, then a 180x180 cut is unlikely to be considered an improvement, and therefore hardly worth cutting.
