I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2016 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German National team doesn't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, with 26 media files added to encompass all major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all these files to work, however, you will need to start a new game.
Magrippinho very helpfully created a YouTube video on how this file should be installed. Some of the contents are different - but the procedure is identical, although of course you use the equivalent folder for FM16.
Or, you can follow the below instructions to install this version of this file
Step 1: Go to
PC
Slightly more detail in this post
Linux
Android:
Step 2: Delete the dbc, edt and lnc folders from the path above
Step 3: Copy the dbc, edt and lnc folder from this download into the folders mentioned in step 1.
Step 4: Go to:
Step 6: Keeping the folder in step 5 open, go back to the file you downloaded and select the folder named "FM16 Real Names Fix Files from sortitoutsi.net v2.1".
Step 7: Paste the circled folder directly into the folder mentioned in step 5.
Take care to remove any previous versions of this file
Step 8: This should be what your editor data folder looks like. There may also be a config.xml file in this folder and can be safely retained; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.
To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly. Club names (including the German ones) are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMC. There's a workaround for that in the first post.

Remember, first DELETE the old folders in 1600/1601 THEN put the ones from this download. Merging them will retain some folders which need to be deleted to make this file work properly.
Yes, basically

Although I put the relevant files into editor data folder, just competition colors (i.e. Europa League with yellow-red color) do not work for me. I don't know why. Everything is fine except this.

I made a custom database that shifted a bunch of teams around, I put some Austrian, Swiss, Dutch and Danish teams in to the German league system and replaced them in their home leagues with clubs from the 'Lower Leagues' so they were still playable. It was working fine.
I then realised that when FM upgraded to the full version from the Beta, my Real Names & German Team fix had been removed so I re-installed.
Now my custom database doesn't work because I'm guessing one of the files in the edt/lnc folders is overriding my own database changes. Now when I try and start a game it won't load Austria, Switzerland, Holland and Denmark because it's looking for clubs that have been moved. (Oddly, Germany is still fine.)
Is it possible for me to remove one of the files and go back to using my custom database? I don't mind too much if competition names aren't 100% accurate but I really do want the German national team to function correctly.

Looks like you hadn't installed this download correctly. You need to place them in the 1601 folder as well.
The German club name changes were already in the beta version of this file. If they weren't appearing for you, then you must have made a mistake when installing. If you'd started a save-game before waiting for v1.0 of this file, then read the first post for simple instructions on how to display the corrected club name changes.
I don't have a Mac so can't really help, but surely the steps are broadly similar whether it's on Mac or PC. Download this file, delete the SI edt and lnc folders then replace them with the ones from this download. Then put the FM16 Real Names Fix Files from sortitoutsi.net v1.0 folder in your Documents>editor data folder or equivalent. That's it really...
I don't know why some people seem to have this issue. It's all working fine on mine I'll investigate further...
Erm, that's exactly the way that it's typed in the lnc file
I don't have a mediafire account, but I've uploaded it to MEGA. I'll add this mirror to the OP as well.
I don't see any reason why the edt and lnc files should conflict with what you've done tbh. But without seeing your file, I can't really tell. I suspect it's the club name changes.dbc editor data file which is causing the conflict since I renamed the German B teams and I imagine you moved them to another country. Try running your file and removing the above-mentioned file and see whether it works...

What I did was swap Feyenoord, Ajax, PSV, Malmo, Copenhagen, Basel, Zurich, Grashoppers, Young Boys, Sturm Graz and Austria Wien for teams in their respective "Lower Leagues." Then I set all of those clubs to Nation: Germany and Continental Cup nation: Germany and left their Based: as their original nation.
I then made a brand new German league system, including those teams, with the original German leagues set to extinct and all other clubs left without a league.
This worked fine, I loaded up a game and started, then realised I'd forgotten to re-install this fix. So I reinstalled the fix and went to start a new game and now I can't, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden and Holland are no longer playable - but Germany is.
Have you made changes to the reserve teams of the above clubs that may be causing a conflict? It was working previously with your .dbc files and my .dbc files. It's something in the edt/lnc files that it doesn't seem to like?

Also if i downloaded the new version, could i keep my edited version of 'Club name changes' (because thats what i edited) and use the other new files?
I have noticed a bug that any player in the German national team, on the team view their ability and potential ability disappears, its happened to me with Mesut Ozil and Serge Gnabry, but didnt happen to Per Mertesacker because hes not been called up.

Just wondering what I can do to get this working? Is there an alternative path I can follow?

Is there anywhere add on for germany lower leagues? Like to play 2. bundesliga in germany but there is no reserve team playing any league...
Ilyana
Is this a BRAND NEW game? Fix won't work on a saved game. You have to start a brand new game.

There's only some relatively minor changes - the beta file is good enough to be getting along with.
At which point does the indicated path not correspond with the path on your system?
Perhaps you have the equivalent folder in your C (or home) drive...
I'm afraid it looks like you have not installed the file correctly. Can you upload a screenshot of your 1601>lnc folder?
I'm not sure what you're asking here...
Ausde
Now it works! The only thing which is still not working is that there are fantasy names in the German National Team. Could you maybe guess how to fix this?

Hello!
