A strong defensive counter attacking tactic that I created to mimic the methods of Diego Simeone. It can get a little pinball-ish at times, but when your team breaks with a counter it's truly some beautiful football. This tactic involves your L and R midfielders to act as Inside Wingers, which can be hard to find. This requires a physically fit squad, as it plays very fluid with your players breathing down the necks of anyone that has the ball. You'll get a fair share of fouls, but I've never really run into too much trouble. You give up a bit in the midfield to forwards - and feel free to play around with that - but you can always change your setting from Defensive to Standard or Control to get your players up field a little more.
I first developed this tactic in BETA with Chester FC. I had them in the top 4 of the Vanarama National. When FM18 went live I started with Osnabruck and used this as my main tactic. I ended up winning 3.Liga with a GD of 50. So far in the 2 Bundesliga we are sitting in 3rd place about 1/4 the way through the season.
I recommend toggling on/off Get Stuck In to see how your players react. Some players get a little too aggressive.
Set your team training to Team Cohesion and Ball Control when you get started. I default my match training to Attacking Set Pieces.
