SI have announced “some big changes under the hood to how the logic of interactions works… So you’ll now witness fewer instances of overly severe and unrealistic responses from players”.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it a feature? Is it a bug fix? Who cares so long as it works!

We've all witnessed the absurd reactions from players when doing something as simple as praising their recent goal or international cap and that won't happen anymore in FM24.

According to the recent official blog post the reason for this was simply that players didn't have an option to not act in extremes in code. But now there's going to be three levels of variance for positive and negative reactions, so you can imagine it as something like negative, very negative and extremely negative. I'm not sure exactly where the old system sat within that framework but i'm guessing it was closer to extremely negative.

Some other features bug fixes that have been announced

  • Issues have also been resolved to address instances of unrealistic player unhappiness
  • If you complete a promise early a player will now become satisfied as soon as its complete rather than waiting until the end date
  • It's now clearer the reasons for a players concerns e.g. if a player is exploring options you'll know it's because they want continental football

Set targets for players

It's not all bug fixes though, there is a new feature; the ability to set targets for players including:

  • Training to play in a new position
  • Training to play in a new role
  • Training to learn a new trait
  • Achieving a minimum average rating in training
  • Scoring a minimum number of goals
  • Scoring a minimum number of assists
  • Scoring a minimum number of clean sheets
  • Achieving a minimum average rating in matches

You can set targets in the following places:

  • When you praise or criticise a player
  • When making a comment to a player leaving on loan
  • In contract negotiations
  • When resolving player unhappiness

The main point of this is to be able to respond to demands without just rejecting them. If a player wants first team football you can set him the target of maintaining a 7.3 match rating or scoring 10 goals.

Of course promises work in the same way, if you don't honour the promise the player will become unhappy.

Players can also arrive on loan with targets that their parent club has already set them.

Players will also have someone to blame if they fail to reach a target. It's not clear who they can blame other than themselves, presumably you can be one of the options but also their team mates or the club as a whole.

Improvements to staff meetings

You can now skip some staff meetings if you don't want to talk about that particular thing

You can also setup your staff meetings going forward so that some things are always skipped or simply replaced by summaries in your inbox.
