Because he simply isn't direct enough and will drop off deeper than Giroud does meaning we'll have fuck all up top. We're a team that likes to play quick passing and through balls, the difference having someone with Walcott's pace and movement today was clear to see. We're so much more dangerous on the counter with someone direct up front and that kind of player would also suit Ozil's play too. Rather than have a striker constantly dropping off 40 yards from goal and laying it back to him then going sideways. This is what drives me mad about Giroud, he now spends far too much time with his back to goal, rather than making runs and moving defenders about.

We need to bring the directness back to our attacking play, far too often you see us make one or two passes too many, or get to the edge of the penalty area, only to pass ourselves back to the halfway line. Berbatov is not a player that will improve us, he's just a far less effective Ozil type player nowadays and i'd be very very surprised if we went in for him as we certainly wont be needing him next season so can't see him even wanting to sign for us knowing that either.

I pretty much agree with what VP says, we need to wrap up the Remy deal as I think he'd suit Arsenal to the floor.

What's his deal with you? Could he potentially leave this month?

I don't think anyone knows. There has been conflicting reports to whether Newcastle and QPR have an agreed fee, with most of them suggesting there is not. I've seen nothing to suggest there is a chance of him leaving in January. I think Newcastle is his level if i'm honest, I'm unconvinced he can step up.

I don't think anyone is going to risk signing him until his legal problems go away.

Every time I've seen him he's impressed me. He scored two very good goals against your lot the other week, his second was fantastic. At 25 he's a lot of time to mature even more as he settles in England and at a club like Arsenal with a good squad around him and Wenger I think he'd flourish.

Why not?

Jack Wilshere believes that Theo Walcott has made himself "an Arsenal legend" for his gesture towards Tottenham fans during Saturday's FA Cup third-round victory.

While Walcott was being stretchered off with a knee injury, the England international held up a hand signal which reflected the 2-0 scoreline towards the away supporters inside the Emirates Stadium.

A goal in each half from Santi Cazorla and Tomas Rosicky secured Arsenal's passage to the fourth round of the competition, where they will Coventry City on home soil.

"He'll be an Arsenal legend now," Wilshere told reporters. "They love Theo already and this is only going to help him.

"[The Tottenham supporters] were giving it to him and he's given a little bit back. I think people have got to look at it as banter."

Wilshere, who was recently banned for two matches after he made an offensive gesture aimed at Manchester City fans, added: "He's a bit smarter than me, I suppose."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he looked into the possibility of signing Robert Lewandowski before Bayern Munich confirmed the impending acquisition of the Borussia Dortmund striker.

The Poland international, who has scored 15 goals for BVB this term, will join the German champions on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Despite the arrival of Lewandowski to the Allianz Arena in the summer, Wenger claims that Bayern will not be willing to sell Mario Mandzukic during the January transfer window but hinted that the Croatian's situation could change.

"We looked into it but, honestly, [Lewandowski] signed one-and-a-half years ago," the Gunners boss told reporters.

"Lewandowski is at Dortmund until the end of the season and Bayern will not sell Mandzukic now. Maybe at the end of the season."

"All the big players are at big clubs at the moment and they go for important targets," the Frenchman added.

"Unless you have a club in a desperate financial situation, it will be difficult - or if we find someone like [Serge] Gnabry at that age when no-one knows them."

Torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Feel quite sorry for him with the World Cup right around the corner.

It's devastating news, could well end our hopes of the title too as he's the only player we've got that offers something different. I don't expect us to sign anyone world class in January either, those players are simply not available or at least not at a price that represents any type of value for the club.

He's out for at least 6 months. Looks more likely to be around 8-9 months. At least he had the decency to get injured at the start of the transfer window I suppose

I doubt we'll see him until around October. Absolutely awful blow.

He and Ozil have played so few times together as well.
