I thought there were some Dutch targets in mind for the RB slot. Granted Janmaat might be more tempted to follow LVG to Old Trafford, but I thought there were one or two others in mind. My main concern remains up top, given that we currently have three youngsters and an injured out-of-form number 9 to choose from. I thought there'd be more urgency there.

Campbell might be a non-starter given Arsenal may've seen him at the World Cup and thought "... he could be useful". I maintain Jordan Rhodes would work given his scoring levels are good, but I'd imagine Blackburn charging a similar amount to what Leeds got for McCormack. There's probably others out there, even if Pardew thinks Siem de Jong is a striker.

This Debuchy to Arsenal transfer has been ball-achingly slow in progression. If he's going to move just hurry up and do it already.

I'm hoping to see Adam Armstrong get more time in the first team next season, but he'd probably benefit most from going on loan to League 1 or 2. But Newcastle do lack a top striker - Cissé has the talent but has been misfiring recently, so if he doesn't find his shooting boots soon it might be time for him to go back abroad.

According to the Italian journalist who broke the Janmaat story - the deal is done in principle and should be completed once he's finished at the World Cup.

According to the Shields Gazette - HBA and Marveaux both made to train with the kids, on account of them not being featured in some pictures. It's a solid theory if you ignore the pictures they are pictured in.

Colback and De Jong pictured wearing 14 and 15. Leaving 4 and 5 available.....

Yanga-Mbiwa and Marveaux have apparently slimmed down back to a shape similar to when they respectively first joined. HBA, on the other hand, still looks a bit podgy.

Nah, they were actually training with the reserves.

We need to buy 2 strikers and I can really see us starting the season playing Siem De Jong upfront.

I saw an article on an Italian website claiming Mauricio Isla could fill the RB slot at Newcastle. Would he really leave Juve for Newcastle though?

I guess it comes down to whether ≈15 games a season + CL at Juventus is worth more than ≈30 games a season at Newcastle. At least he'd be used to his team-mates wearing black and white.

Article today claiming were going to sign a right back (Aurier or Janmaat), a centre midfielder, an attacking midfielder (Cabella) and 2 strikers.

Complete and utter horse shit.

Can anyone name strikers that Newcastle have actually been linked with?

The recurring one is Cabella. We were linked with Janmaat recently when it became clear Debuchy was heading through the out door, and I'm aware we were linked with Lasogga before HSV made his loan permanent.

Aside from that, there's been links but nothing recurring.

Was Lasogga and Gomis but other clubs moved faster than us, tbf wasn't too fussed about either but I just hope it's not going to be the story of the summer for the 3rd year running.

We need to spend about 20m on strikers and I just can't see it, I seriously hope he isn't planning on using De Jong as a forward as he's claimed numerous times he's way better as a number 10.

We've been linked with moves for the following to my recollection.

Lacazette
Ibarbo
Demba Ba
Carlos Bacca
Danny Ings
Ross McCormack
Diaffra Sakho
Enner Valencia

Can't see Newcastle signing any of them tbh - Maybe Lacazette.

Some random dudes from Ligue 1 imo.

Diaffra Sakho and Riviere maybe?

Lacazette says he wants Champions League so I doubt we'll sign him.

We should have just signed Remy last summer tbh.

Someone at Newcastle apparently rang SSN to deny thy Sakho one so probs not him. But someone of his ilk.

Like when Remy and PEA fell through and they signed Gouffran. No idea really.

Thing is signing a second rate striker won't do in this situation.

We need a goalscorer.

It is surreal to see how frequently they comment to deny transfers.

At least it was Douglas who wrote that article.

Cameron today wrote an article that fullbacks are important. He also noted that better team tend to have better fullbacks.

Montpellier's chairman says a deal for Cabella is done.

With any luck it will be followed by an unveiling and not a denial.

I hate how all we need to do is spend an extra say 25m and our squad will look a real force.

10m for Grenier, 15m for Remy and a loan deal for Ba.

Allows us to play a 4-3-1-2 and it'd look something like this

Krul

Janmaat Yanga-Mbiwa Coloccini Santon

Grenier Tiote Cabella

De Jong

Ba Remy

It's never gonna happen though.

That looks even more gung-ho than our diamond near the end of the season with Coutinho as one of the shuttlers.

I was under the impression that Grenier was similar to Cabaye?

Cabella as a CM won't offer much defensively, but if we can teach Tiote to sit and hold rather than steam around like a train it'd look good.

I think we could play that formation with Sissoko instead of Grenier and it be a success, though.

Is it looking likely that you'll be getting Jenkinson as part of the Debuchy deal or is it all just paper talk?

Paper talk as far as I'm aware - we're close to signing Janmaat from PSV as a replacement for Debuchy.

And we have Ryan Taylor there for backup so it's unlikely we'll be after Jenkinson.

It's a shame. Newcastle would be the perfect club for him to get some experience at.
