When resizing a cut to fit the 250x250 in Photoshop, keep the shift button pressed when using the rectangular marquee tool. This will mean the canvas chosen is a square and you do not have to resize the image. If you have to use the image size function, make sure the constrain proportions box is ticked so that the image is not reshaped in a manner which makes the head seems bloated.
