It's always best to choose the highest quality source; you can indicate in the title which player (left or right etc), or alternatively crop with a website such as picresize.com (just remember to select 'No change' in resizing options as it defaults to 50% size)

Apart from putting it in that folder, you also need to add it to your config file in this manner.
As for its icon face you need to wait for the next update pack, when one will be generated for this player
