Continuing with goalkeepers, Courtois to Real Madrid and Pickford to Chelsea?

What is an extraordinary summer for you lot would be a slightly above-average one for us, and that doesn't take the humidity into account either. #prayformalta

I imagine in a country that is used to such heat you have systems in place to cope with it ... like air con!

So, what is everyone hoping for from the next in the series of FM?

Personally, I hope they improve the regen's faces. They seemed to take a massive step back this series in term of quality and I hope they have put some time into upgrading that a bit! Not a major thing, but I used to like the old regen faces and thought they were better quality.

I haven't had chance to play much this year so the more technical annoyances haven't affected me as much. I do wish they would reintroduce scout reports on players you have requested be scouted appearing in your inbox again as that was the biggest annoyance from the revamp in scouting for me.

You?

Crusaders are not enjoying their European adventures this season! After conceding 9 over two legs in their Champions League qualifiers, they've gone on to concede another 5 in their first leg of the Europa League qualifiers! Even the goal they scored was an own goal. From the British teams to crash out of the Champions League qualifiers, TNS did a bit better by managing to a 2-1 victory in their first leg tie over Lincoln Red Imps.

Aberdeen and Burnley battled to a draw, as did Dundalk - leaving their games wide open.

Hibs are still scoring, but conceding also. A 3-2 win is not much assurance, as those away goals could come back to haunt them. Rangers managed a good 1-0 victory away and take a well earned advantage home for the second leg.

Well Celtic didn't have the best of starts against Rosenborg but managed to pull it back just before half time and end up with a 3-1 victory.

Even so, I still think it will be a tough game and one of those where they potentially lose the second leg but still go through. Could that early concession prove their undoing?!

31 here at the moment, meant to be highly likely that the UK will break hottest temperature recorded for UK tomorrow as we get up to around 38.

In FM18, is there any way to set 'next opposition' scouting reports to occur automatically without having to assume scouting responsibility? I thought the chief scout used to assign this automatically

In all of my saves I've left it down to the Chief Scout to sort out all the scouting assignments and they have always had someone doing next opposition, unless that is sometimes covered by Data Analysts too now? Pretty sure they just do post match stuff though.

Alternating between saves at the mo, never really got to play this FM due to real life events but I am hoping to get back in the swing properly with the next in the series.

I'll always have a Blackpool save, just because. It will be another bodged together team but hopefully with high takeover potential!

So Villa are rumoured to be looking at replacing Steve Bruce with Thierry Henry as manager.

Seems a risky choice! You'd think Steve Bruce would give them the best chance of going up, but I guess Henry raises the profile of the club a bit and players may well come in just to play for him.

Cor blimey I'm fed up of this heat! Maybe it's a natural British disposition to moan about the weather and a preference for the cold and rain but I could do with a bit of a break from this heat. Okay, the odd weekend of sun and thirty degree weather is nice, you get to wear those summer clothes and relax in a beer garden whilst trying to not get sun stroke but now I feel it has become a new form of torture for the soul, like Love Island.

I escaped up North for a long weekend and saw my first bit of rain in what must be 2 months now. Here in Ipswich we are pushing the 30s again with no breeze and surrounding by a desert of golden, yellow, dead grass. Needless to say my FM time this year has suffered because of it!

I know we have people from all over the world here, how have your summers been so far? Has it become unbearable?

Not sure what Marco Silva sees in Richarlson but thought Everton would be doing other business than that. Maybe scoring 22 goals or whatever past a Danish amateur side has given them a false sense of security.

In other news, what about Malcolm? Do Roma fans still want him? Pleading with Bordeaux not to complete their transfer of him so he can try get a move to Barcelona. I'm sure @BR. will have some thoughts there!

So Celtic advance thanks to a mirror scoreline of their first leg, though making it a bit harder by going down to ten men. They now face Rosenborg in the next round, who advanced thanks to a goal from world beater Bendtner.

TNS almost made an epic comeback, but fell just short. Surely some pride was restored with their 4-0 victory though, unlike Crusaders who fell to another defeat and lost 9-0 on aggregate. Disappointment for Cork City too who failed to overturn their first leg deficit.

Well, VAR had to be involved in the final didn't it? Still think that was a case of ball to hand and shouldn't have been given. Even without that helping hand it was a deserved victory for the French, most people's pre-tournament favourites and eventually living up to it. As you say, they didn't seem to have arrived in the group stages!

Did that mistake by Lloris cost him the goalkeeper award? Either way, at least the English won something - the golden boot going to Harry Kane not to be sniffed at even if he didn't get many chances at goal after the Tunisia game except from the penalty spot. Mbappe got the young player award and is highlighting his credentials to challenge the thrones of Ronaldo and Messi, replacing Neymar as that hopeful in my opinion.

Now that's over, roll on the domestic season and crank up the activity in the transfer window!

Well there you go, fourth place and I think that flatters us.

Today showed how lucky we have been with the draw and what a difference it can make. We lack creativity in the centre of the pitch, relying on Henderson to send long, hopeful balls up the pitch. Think it is time to bench the 352 system as well, would be tempted by an old school diamond!

Chelsea sack Conte

It has finally happened, as we all knew it would. Another manager departure poorly handled by those in charge at Stamford Bridge. Don't know where he will end up with his wonderful hair piece but I imagine it will be back in Italy. Napoli's Maurizio Sarri has been the expected replacement for a while now, but no official confirmation has yet been made.

I wonder if any other managers will fall by the side in pre-season?

Well, we all know Trump means something different over here but the obnoxious bag of hot air is still showing he will play it the same wherever he goes.

Currently, we're the lucky ones to be at the centre of his focus - until some porn star catches his eye. The fuck up of Brexit is now being enlarged by his aides realisation that May will be desperate to get a trade deal agreed with him in some vain attempt to show any sign of competence. This will inevitably fail though and hopefully she will face vote of no confidence, leading to a general election race between Corbyn and Boris in another farce of shall we try push through a Brexit deal or crawl back to EU on our bellies.

Getting a bit ahead of myself there; let's all enjoy the show of the Trump balloon and comb-over Dalek whilst it's in town and spare a thought for the poor coppers who have to spend the night on a sports hall floor to accommodate all of this.

Another season, another set of unexpected transfers. Who is on the move?

We've already had some "surprising" transfers. Ronaldo did the new contract dance and ended up at Juventus and Wolves are trying to buy every Portuguese League talent - already landing Rui Patricio! Mahrez finally got his move to City...etc

What more will happen?

It's a bit of a joke that someone like Ludogorets has to begin in the first qualifying round.

Could you not say the same about Celtic?

With limited places though, someone has to. Don't know the teams who are in the next round pot.

Earlier in the week the Champions League qualifying rounds kicked off, though a lot of us were elsewise distracted!

The British & Irish teams were a mixed bag of results. Celtic got a comfortable 3-0 away victory on Tuesday but TNS ended their away journey with a 5-0 thrashing. Cork City couldn't quite hold their own against Legia Warsaw and fell to a 1-0 defeat at home.

Wednesday saw the biggest defeat though, with Crusaders falling to a heavy 7-0 defeat away at Ludogorets.
