I wanted to ask a question about the use of AI in the cut-out faces. I've been working on a tool that creates portrait images in the style of what is used in the cut-out megapack, by uploading images that might be bad quality, bad angles, etc., and taking available information from the pictures, and using AI, creates a portrait more suitable for use in FM.

 

I know generative AI is a contentious topic in general, but is a tool like that something you'd allow to be used for creating portraits for players where no suitable base image is available? Or is that something you'd prefer to keep far away from the megapack?

I doubt that's the case, so it might just be that the sources you're cutting have already been cut badly by someone else and superimposed on a background.

 

That's entirely possible - I do sometimes roll my eyes at some of the social media work done by my club…

@mons Thanks for the heads up, but I do use remove.bg and Photoshop. The only difference from what you recommend process-wise, is that I use the remove.bg plugin for Photoshop, not the web version - But I don't imagine it's a worse product they provide to people who use the API via the plugin, compared to the free web version?

 

All the base pics I've used though, are often very dark hair, on a very dark background. Could that be the cause?

Yes, I understand - That's what I meant, I couldn't nudge the collar upwards without it looking bad, due to the shadows - So it was that, or a crop with no collar.

 

But I'll leave that one up to you guys then :-)

Question - I'm not a fan of the actual URAN faces - Some of them are absolutely ASTOUNDING quality, but it varies a lot, as just many are just… Really poorly cropped, or terrible proportions, where the neck is virtually half the height of the image. Would I be able to sort the NewGAN faces into the same folder and naming structure as you use, and still use FM.Z tools - Would that work? Would that assign faces correctly?

With the kind of hairstyle he has it will be very difficult not to have a bit of his clothes visible in his cut-out. The beauty of the megapack and the timeline feature is that you can always save a different cut and use it instead in your save.

 

Yeah, but like the one uploaded 29 Oct 2019 05:46:08  (2nd in timeline) is perfect, has his hair and no collar, why not just revert to that? It's a little older sure, but no major difference IMO. But yeah, I suppose I can just manually replace it, thanks :-)

@GfxJG Good work, but please note that all cutouts should include some of the collar. In this case, there wasn't any need to remove the hood of his hoodie. I've uploaded a fixed cutout including some of the hoodie edited to look more collar-like 👍

 

Alright, no worries, I just thought it looked pretty awful with the full hoodie. Good shout on the edit to imitate a collar though, good thinking.

This looks great! Shame it comes out just as FM21 comes too! Any chance a similar version will be made for FM21? But I guess that depends on how the newgen-generating system works on FM21 compared to FM20...

Excuse my French, but... Holy fuck, this is amazing. Currently using a 3D-face newgen pack, which works incredibly, but this is next-level. You mention that you could theoretically generate millions of them, but about 5% are bad. If you're willing, I'd gladly help you sort through the generated images, identify the bad ones, if it means a larger selection of faces. Obviously not millions, but from my experience, ~15.000 is where you reach a point that duplicates are so rare, you don't really notice them when you see them. Even half that would be great. Hit me up if it's something you'd be interested in, but naturally it's fair if it's too time-intensive, I don't know how long these take to generate :-)
